Joshua 2

1 Then did Joshua son of Nun, send out from The Acacias, two men to spy out silently, saying, Go view the land, and Jericho. So they came, and entered the house of a harlot, whose name was Rahab, and lay there.

Josué, hijo de Nun, envió secretamente desde Sitim dos espías, diciendo: “Andad, explorad el país y a Jericó.” Partieron y entraron en casa de una ramera llamada Rahab, donde se hospedaron.

2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, —Lo! men, have come in hither to-night of the sons of Israel to search out the land.

Mas se dio aviso al rey de Jericó, con estas palabras: “He aquí que durante la noche han llegado aquí unos hombres de los hijos de Israel, para explorar la tierra.”

3 So the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, —Bring forth the men that are come in unto thee who have entered thy house, for, to search out all the land, have they come.

Entonces el rey de Jericó mando decir a Rahab: “Saca fuera a los hombres que han venido a ti y han entrado en tu casa; porque han venido a explorar todo el país.”

4 And the woman took the two men and hid them, —and said: Even so, the men did come in unto me, but I knew not from whence they were;

Entretanto la mujer había tomado a los dos hombres para esconderlos, por lo cual dijo: “Es verdad que vinieron a mí aquellos hombres, pero yo no sabía de dónde eran.

5 and it came to pass, as the gate was about to be shut in the darkness, that, the men, went out, I know not whither the men went, —pursue them quickly for ye shall overtake them.

Salieron cuando se iba a cerrar la puerta, siendo ya oscuro; no sé a dónde se han dirigido. Corred a prisa en pos de ellos, que de seguro los alcanzaréis.”

6 But, she, had taken them up to the roof, —and concealed them with the stalks of flax which she had laid in order for herself upon the roof.

En realidad ella los había hecho subir al terrado, y los había escondido entre los tallos de lino que tenía dispuestos en el terrado.

7 So, the men, pursued them by way of the Jordan unto the fords, —the gate being shut as soon as they who pursued them had gone forth.

Fueron, pues, tras ellos aquellos hombres, persiguiéndolos camino del Jordán, hasta los vados; y luego que los perseguidores habían salido, se cerraron las puertas.

8 And, ere yet they slept, she, went up unto them, upon the roof;

Aún no se habían acostado los espías, cuando ella subió al terrado, donde estaban,

9 and said unto the men, I know that Yahweh hath given unto you the land, —and that the terror of you hath fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land, have melted away, from before you.

y dijo a los hombres: “Yo sé que Yahvé os ha dado este país, porque el terror de vuestro nombre ha caído sobre nosotros y todos los habitantes del país tiemblan ante vosotros.

10 For we have heard how Yahweh, dried up, the waters of the Red Sea from before you, when ye came forth out of Egypt, —and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites who were over the Jordan unto Sihon and unto Og, whom ye devoted to destruction;

Pues hemos oído cómo Yahvé secó delante de vosotros las aguas del Mar Rojo, cuando salisteis de Egipto, y cómo habéis tratado a los dos reyes de los amorreos, en la otra parte del Jordán, a Sehón y a Og, a los cuales entregasteis al anatema.

11 and, when we heard, then did our heart melt, and there rose up no longer any spirit in any man because of you, —for, as for Yahweh your God, he, is God—in the heavens above, and upon the earth beneath.

Al oírlo se nos derritió el corazón y todos han perdido el ánimo ante vosotros; porque Yahvé, vuestro Dios, es Dios arriba en el cielo y abajo en la tierra.

12 Now, therefore I pray you, swear unto me by Yahweh, since I have dealt with you in lovingkindness, that, ye also, will deal with the house of my father in lovingkindness, and will give me a token of faithfulness,

Ahora os ruego que me juréis por Yahvé que como yo he usado de misericordia con vosotros, así también vosotros usaréis de misericordia con la casa de mi padre, y me daréis una señal de seguridad,

13 and will save alive my father and my mother, and my brethren and my sisters, and all that they have, —and will deliver our souls from death.

de que dejaréis la vida a mi padre, a mi madre, a mis hermanos, y a mis hermanas, y a todo lo que es suyo, y que libraréis nuestras vidas de la muerte.”

14 And the men said unto her, Our souls in your stead unto death, if ye utter not this our business, —so shall it be, when Yahweh shall give us the land, that we will deal with thee in lovingkindness and in faithfulness.

Los hombres le respondieron: “Con nuestra vida salvaremos la vuestra con tal que no nos denuncies. Y será que cuando Yahvé nos entregare el país, usaremos contigo de misericordia y de fidelidad.”

15 And she let them down with a cord through the window, —for, her house, was within the wall of the rampart, and, within the rampart, she was dwelling.

Tras lo cual ella los descolgó con una cuerda desde la ventana, pues estando su casa en el muro de la ciudad, vivía en el muro.

16 And she said unto them—To the mountain, get you, lest the pursuers, fall in, with you, —and hide yourselves there, three days until the pursuers return, and, afterwards, shall ye go your way.

“¡Marchaos, les dijo, a la montaña, no sea que os alcancen los que fueron en persecución vuestra! Allí escondeos tres días, hasta que hayan vuelto los perseguidores; después seguiréis vuestro camino.”

17 And the men said unto her, —Free, will we be from this thine oath which thou hast made us swear:

Los hombres le dijeron: “Nosotros sin falta cumpliremos este juramento que nos has tomado.

18 Lo! when we are coming into the land, this cord of crimson thread, must thou bind in the window by which thou didst let us down, and, thy father and thy mother and thy brethren and all the household of thy father, must thou gather together unto thee unto the house.

Mira, cuando entremos en el país, atarás este cordón de hilo escarlata en la ventana por donde nos descolgaste; y reunirás contigo dentro de la casa a tu padre, a tu madre, a tus hermanos, y a toda la casa de tu padre.

19 And it shall be, whosoever shall go forth out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood, shall be on his own head and, we, shall be free, —but, whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood, shall be on our heads, if a, hand, be upon him.

Si alguno sale fuera de la puerta de tu casa, su sangre recaerá sobre su propia cabeza, y nosotros quedaremos sin culpa; pero si mano alguna toca a los que estén contigo dentro de la casa, su sangre recaerá sobre nuestra cabeza.

20 Or, if thou utter this our business, then shall we be free from this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

Pero si nos denuncias, nos veremos libres de este juramento que nos has tomado.”

21 And she said—According to your words, so, shall it be. Thus sent she them away and they departed, —and she bound the crimson cord in the window.

Ella respondió: “Como vosotros decís, así sea”. Después los despidió, y se fueron. Y ella ató el cordón de escarlata a la ventana.

22 And they went and came into the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers had returned, —so the pursuers, made search, throughout all the way, but found them not.

Partieron ellos en dirección de la montaña, donde estuvieron tres días, hasta el regreso de los que habían ido en su persecución. Pues los perseguidores los habían buscado en todo el camino, sin hallarlos.

23 And the two men returned and came down out of the mountain, and crossed over and came unto Joshua, son of Nun, —and recounted to him all that had befallen them;

Se volvieron entonces los dos hombres; bajando de la montaña pasaron (el río) y vieron a Josué, hijo de Nun, al cual refirieron todo lo que les había sucedido.

24 and they said unto Joshua, Yahweh, hath delivered, into our hand all the land, —moreover also all the inhabitants of the land, have melted away, from before us.

Dijeron a Josué: “Cierto es que Yahvé ha dado en nuestra mano todo este país, porque todos los moradores del país tiemblan ya ante nosotros.”
