Joshua 16

1 Then came out the lot, for the sons of Joseph, from the Jordan by Jericho, at the waters of Jericho, eastward, —the desert, going up from Jericho, through the hill country to Bethel;

Et le lot échut aux fils de Joseph depuis le Jourdain de Jéricho, jusqu’aux eaux de Jéricho, vers le levant, [vers] le désert qui monte de Jéricho à la montagne de Béthel.

2 and it goeth out from Bethel towards Luz, —and passeth over unto the boundary of the Archites at Ataroth;

Et [la frontière] sortait de Béthel vers Luz, et passait vers la frontière de l’Arkite à Ataroth,

3 and descendeth westward, unto the boundary of the Japhletites, as far as the boundary of Bethhoron the nether, and as far as Gezer, —and the extensions thereof are to the sea.

et elle descendait vers l’occident, à la frontière des Japhlétiens, jusqu’à la frontière de Beth-Horon la basse, et jusqu’à Guézer, et aboutissait à la mer.

4 So the sons of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance.

Et les fils de Joseph, Manassé et Éphraïm, eurent [cela pour] héritage.

5 And the boundary of the sons of Ephraim, by their families, was, —yea the boundary of their inheritance on the east, was Ataroth-addar, as far as Beth-horon the upper;

Et le territoire des fils d’Éphraïm fut selon leurs familles: la frontière de leur héritage vers le levant était Ataroth-Addar, jusqu’à Beth-Horon la haute.

6 and the boundary goeth out westward at Michmethath, on the north, then the boundary bendeth round easward, to Taanath-shiloh, —and passeth by it on the east to Janoah;

Et la frontière sortait à l’occident vers Micmethath, au nord; et la frontière tournait vers l’orient, jusqu’à Thaanath-Silo, et la dépassait vers l’orient, vers Janokha,

7 and goeth down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, —and toucheth upon Jericho, and goeth out at the Jordan.

et descendait de Janokha à Ataroth et à Naaratha, et touchait à Jéricho, et aboutissait au Jourdain.

8 From Tappuah, runneth the boundary along westward, to the ravine of Kanah, and the extensions thereof are to the sea, —this, is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, by their families;

Depuis Tappuakh la frontière allait vers l’occident, au torrent de Kana, et aboutissait à la mer. Ce fut là l’héritage de la tribu des fils d’Éphraïm, selon leurs familles,

9 together with the cities which were separated for the sons of Ephraim, in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh, —all the cities, with their villages.

avec les villes qui furent séparées pour les fils d’Éphraïm, au milieu de l’héritage des fils de Manassé, toutes ces villes et leurs hameaux.

10 But they did not dispossess the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gazer, —so the Canaanites have dwelt in the midst of Ephraim unto this day, and have become tributary servants.

Mais ils ne dépossédèrent pas le Cananéen qui habitait à Guézer; et le Cananéen a habité au milieu d’Éphraïm jusqu’à ce jour; et il a été asservi au tribut.
