Joshua 1
1 And it came to pass, after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, —that Yahweh spake unto Joshua son of Nun, the attendant of Moses, saying:
Or il arriva après la mort de Moïse, serviteur de l'Eternel, que l'Eternel parla à Josué, fils de Nun, qui avait servi Moïse, en disant:
2 Moses my servant, is dead, —Now, therefore, arise, pass over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, into the land which I am giving unto them—unto the sons of Israel.
Moïse mon serviteur est mort; maintenant donc lève-toi, passe ce Jourdain, toi et tout ce peuple, pour entrer au pays que je donne aux enfants d'Israël.
3 Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread, unto you, have I given it, —as I spake unto Moses.
Je vous ai donné tout lieu où vous aurez mis la plante de votre pied, selon que je l'ai dit à Moïse.
4 From the desert and this Lebanon, even unto the great river—the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea, toward the going in of the sun, shall be your boundary.
Vos frontières seront depuis ce désert et ce Liban-là, jusqu'à ce grand fleuve, le fleuve d'Euphrate; tout le pays des Héthiens jusqu'à la grande mer, au soleil couchant.
5 No man shall stand before thee, all the days of thy life, —as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee, I will not fail thee, neither will I forsake thee.
Nul ne pourra subsister devant toi tous les jours de ta vie; je serai avec toi comme j'ai été avec Moïse; je ne te délaisserai point, et je ne t'abandonnerai point.
6 Be firm and bold, —for, thou, shalt cause this people to inherit the land which I sware unto their fathers, —to give unto them.
Fortifie-toi et te renforce; car c'est toi qui mettras ce peuple en possession du pays dont j'ai juré à leurs pères que je le leur donnerais.
7 Only be very firm and bold, taking heed to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded thee, do not turn aside therefrom, to the right hand or to the left, —that thou mayest prosper, whithersoever thou goest.
Seulement fortifie-toi et te renforce de plus en plus, afin que tu prennes garde de faire selon toute la Loi que Moïse mon serviteur t'a ordonnée; ne t'en détourne point ni à droite ni à gauche, afin que tu prospères partout où tu iras.
8 This scroll of the law must not cease out of thy mouth, but thou must talk to thyself therein, day and night, that thou mayest take heed to do according to all that is written therein, —for, then, shalt thou make thy way prosperous, and, then, shalt thou have good success.
Que ce livre de la Loi ne s'éloigne point de ta bouche, mais médites-y jour et nuit, afin que tu prennes garde de faire tout ce qui y est écrit; car alors tu rendras heureuses tes entreprises, et alors tu prospéreras.
9 Have I not commanded thee, Be firm and bold, do not start nor be dismayed, —for, with thee, is Yahweh thy God, whithersoever thou goest?
Ne t'ai-je pas commandé, [et dit], fortifie-toi et te renforce? Ne t'épouvante point, et ne t'effraye de rien; car l'Eternel ton Dieu est avec toi partout où tu iras.
10 So then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying:
Après cela Josué commanda aux officiers du peuple, en disant:
11 Pass ye through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying: Make ready for yourselves, provisions, —for, in three days more, are ye to pass over this Jordan, to go in and possess the land which Yahweh your God is giving you, to possess.
Passez par le camp, et commandez au peuple, et lui dites: Apprêtez-vous de la provision; car dans trois jours vous passerez ce Jourdain, pour aller posséder le pays que l'Eternel votre Dieu vous donne, afin que vous le possédiez.
12 And, unto the Reubenites, and unto the Gadites, and unto the half tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying:
Josué parla aussi aux Rubénites, et aux Gadites, et à la demi-Tribu de Manassé, en disant:
13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, saying, —Yahweh your God, is granting you rest, and doth give you this land.
Souvenez-vous de la parole que Moïse, serviteur de l'Eternel, vous a commandée, en disant: L'Eternel votre Dieu vous met en repos, et vous a donné ce pays.
14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses hath given you over the Jordan, —but, ye, shall pass over, armed, before your brethren, —all ye mighty men of valour, and shall help them;
Vos femmes [donc], vos petits enfants, et vos bêtes demeureront dans le pays que Moïse vous a donné au deçà du Jourdain; mais vous passerez en armes devant vos frères, vous tous qui êtes forts et vaillants, et vous leur serez en secours;
15 until that Yahweh shall grant rest unto your brethren, as unto you, so shall, they also, possess the land which Yahweh your God giveth them, —then shall ye return unto the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Yahweh hath given you over the Jordan, towards the rising of the sun.
Jusqu'à ce que l'Eternel ait mis vos frères en repos, comme vous, et qu'eux aussi possèdent le pays que l'Eternel votre Dieu leur donne; puis vous retournerez au pays de votre possession, et vous le posséderez; [savoir] celui que Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel vous a donné au deçà du Jourdain, vers le soleil levant.
16 Then responded they to Joshua, saying, —All that thou hast commanded us, will we do, and, whithersoever thou shalt send us, will we go:
Et ils répondirent à Josué, en disant: Nous ferons tout ce que tu nous as commandé, et nous irons partout où tu nous enverras.
17 As in every thing we hearkened unto Moses, so, will we hearken unto thee, —only let Yahweh thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.
Nous t'obéirons comme nous avons obéi à Moïse; seulement que l'Eternel ton Dieu soit avec toi, comme il a été avec Moïse.
18 Any man who shall rebel against thy bidding, and not hearken unto thy words in all that thou shalt command him, shall be put to death, —only be firm and bold.
Tout homme qui sera rebelle à ton commandement, et qui n'obéira point à tes paroles en tout ce que tu commanderas, sera mis à mort; seulement fortifie-toi, et te renforce.
