Jonah 4
1 And it was vexing unto Jonah, with a great vexation, —and it angered him.
Das verdroß Jona schwer, und er geriet in Zorn
2 So he prayed unto Yahweh, and said—Ah now! Yahweh! Was not, this, my word, while I was yet upon mine own soil? For this cause, did I hasten to flee unto Tarshish, —because I knew that, thou, art a GOD of favour and compassion, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and art grieved over calamity.
und betete zu Jahwe und sprach: Ach, Jahwe, das ist's ja, was ich sagte, als ich noch in meiner Heimat war, - eben dem hatte ich mit der Flucht nach Tarsis zuvorkommen wollen! Denn ich wußte wohl, daß du ein gnädiger und barmherziger Gott bist, langsam zum Zorn und reich an Huld, und daß du dich das Unheil gereuen lässest!
3 Now, therefore, O Yahweh, take, I pray thee, my life from me, —for it were better for me, to die, than, to live.
So nimm doch nun, Jahwe, mein Leben dahin; denn es ist besser für mich, ich sterbe, als daß ich leben bleibe!
4 Then said Yahweh, Art thou rightly angry?
Jahwe aber sprach: Bist du mit Recht so erzürnt?
5 But Jonah, went forth, out of the city, and abode on the east side of the city; and made for himself there, a hut, and sat under it, in the shade, until he should see what would become of the city.
Hierauf verließ Jona die Stadt und nahm seinen Aufenthalt östlich von der Stadt. Daselbst machte er sich eine Hütte und setzte sich darunter in den Schatten, um abzuwarten, was mit der Stadt geschehen würde.
6 Now Yahweh God appointed a gourd, and caused it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his vexation, —and Jonah rejoiced over the gourd, with great rejoicing.
Da beorderte Jahwe Gott einen Ricinus; der wuchs über Jona empor, damit er Schatten über seinem Haupte hätte, und ihm von seinem Unmute geholfen würde, und Jona hatte große Freude über den Ricinus.
7 But God appointed a worm, at the uprisings of the dawn, the next day, —and it smote the gourd, that it withered.
Als aber des anderen Tags die Morgenröte anbrach, beorderte Gott einen Wurm, der stach den Ricinus, daß er verdorrte.
8 And it came to pass, at the breaking forth of the sun, that God appointed a sultry east wind, and the sun smote upon the head of Jonah, that he became faint, —and asked his life, that he might die, and said, It were better for me, to die, than, to live.
Als nun die Sonne aufging, beorderte Gott einen glühenden Ostwind, und die Sonne stach Jona auf das Haupt, daß er gänzlich ermattete. Da wünschte er sich den Tod und sprach: Es ist besser für mich, ich sterbe, als daß ich leben bleibe!
9 Then said God unto Jonah, Art thou rightly angry over the gourd? And he said, I am rightly angry, unto death.
Da sprach Gott zu Jona: Bist du mit Recht so erzürnt wegen des Ricinus? Er antwortete: Mit Recht zürne ich bis zum Tode!
10 Then said Yahweh, Thou, wouldest have spared the gourd, for which thou hadst not toiled, neither hadst thou made it grow, —which, as the off-spring of a night, came up, and, as the offspring of a night, perished;
Jahwe aber sprach: Dich jammert des Ricinus, obschon du dich nicht um ihn gemüht, noch ihn groß gezogen hast, der in einer Nacht entstand und in einer Nacht zu Grunde ging.
11 And was not, I, to spare Nineveh, the great city, —wherein are more than twelve times ten thousand human beings, who cannot discern between their right hand and their left, besides much cattle?
Und mich sollte es nicht jammern Nineves, der großen Stadt, in der sich mehr als 120000 Menschen befinden, die nicht zwischen rechts und links zu unterscheiden wissen, und viele Tiere?
