Jonah 3
1 Then came the word of Yahweh unto Jonah, the second time, saying:
Und das Wort des HERRN erging zum zweitenmal an Jona, also:
2 Arise, get thee unto Nineveh, the great city, —and cry against it the cry that I am bidding thee.
Mache dich auf, gehe nach Ninive, in die große Stadt, und predige ihnen die Predigt, die ich dir sagen werde!
3 So Jonah arose, and went his way unto Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh, —Nineveh, being a city great before God, of three days’ journey.
Da machte sich Jona auf und ging nach Ninive, nach dem Wort des HERRN. Ninive aber war eine große Stadt Gottes, drei Tagereisen groß.
4 So Jonah began to enter into the city, one day’s journey, —and he cried out and said—Yet forty days, and, Nineveh, is to be overthrown!
Und Jona fing an, eine Tagereise weit in die Stadt hineinzugehen, und predigte und sprach: Noch vierzig Tage, und Ninive wird zerstört!
5 And the people of Nineveh believed in God, —and proclaimed a fast, and clothed themselves in sackcloth, from the greatest of them, even unto the least of them.
Und die Leute von Ninive glaubten Gott und riefen ein Fasten aus und legten Säcke an, vom Größten bis zum Kleinsten.
6 And the word reached unto the king of Nineveh, so he arose from his throne, and laid aside his robe from off him, —and covered him with sackcloth, and sat on ashes.
Und das Wort gelangte bis zum König von Ninive; der stand von seinem Throne auf, legte seinen Mantel von sich, hüllte sich in einen Sack und setzte sich in die Asche.
7 And he caused an outcry to be made—and said—throughout Nineveh, By decree of the king and of his great men, Be it known: —Man and beast, herd and flock, Let them taste, nothing, let them not feed, and, water, let them not drink:
Und er ließ ausrufen und sagen zu Ninive: «Auf Befehl des Königs und seiner Großen: Menschen und Vieh, Rinder und Schafe sollen nichts genießen, sie sollen weder weiden noch Wasser trinken;
8 Let both man and beast, cover themselves with sackcloth, and let them cry unto God, mightily, —Yea let them turn, every man from his wicked way, and from the violence which is in their hands:
sondern Menschen und Vieh sollen sich in Säcke hüllen und mit Macht zu Gott rufen und sollen sich abwenden, ein jeder von seinem bösen Wege und von dem Unrecht, das an seinen Händen klebt!
9 Who knoweth whether God himself—may turn and grieve, —and turn away from the glow of his anger, that we perish not?
Wer weiß, Gott könnte andern Sinnes werden, es sich gereuen lassen und abstehen von seinem grimmigen Zorn, so daß wir nicht untergehen!»
10 And God saw their doings, that they turned from their wicked way, —and God was grieved over the calamity which he had spoken of executing upon them, and executed it not.
Da nun Gott ihre Taten sah, daß sie sich abwandten von ihren bösen Wegen, reute ihn das Übel, das er ihnen angedroht hatte, und er tat es nicht.
