< John 4 >

1 When therefore the Lord knew, that the Pharisees had heard—Jesus, more disciples, is making and immersing, than John, —
Egaa Yesuus Yohannis caalaa barattoota akka baayʼifatee fi akka cuuphe Fariisonni dhagaʼuu isaanii Gooftaan ni beeke;
2 although indeed, Jesus himself, was not immersing, but his disciples,
taʼus barattoota isaatu cuuphaa ture malee Yesuus ofii isaatii hin cuuphine.
3 he left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
Inni Yihuudaa dhiisee amma illee Galiilaatti deebiʼe.
4 Now he must needs pass through Samaria.
Innis Samaariyaa keessa darbuu qaba ture.
5 He cometh, therefore, unto a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near the parcel of ground which Jacob gave unto Joseph his son.
Kanaafuu gara magaalaa Samaariyaa kan Siikaar jedhamu tokkoo dhufe; magaalaan sunis lafa Yaaqoob ilma isaa Yoosefiif kenne sanatti dhiʼoo dha.
6 Now Jacob’s fountain was there. Jesus, therefore, having become toil-worn with the journey, was sitting thus, upon the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.
Boolli bishaanii kan Yaaqoob tokko achi ture; Yesuusis waan karaa deemuudhaan dadhabeef boolla bishaanii sana bira taaʼe. Yeroonis gara saʼaatii jaʼaa ture.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus saith unto her—Give me to drink!
Dubartiin Samaariyaa tokkos bishaan waraabbachuu dhufte; Yesuusis, “Mee na obaasi” jedheen.
8 for, his disciples, had gone away into the city, that, food, they might buy.
Barattoonni isaa nyaata bituuf gara magaalaa dhaqanii turaniitii.
9 The Samaritan woman, therefore, saith unto him—How dost, thou, being, a Jew, ask to drink, of me, who am, a Samaritan woman? [for, Jews, have no dealings with Samaritans.]
Dubartiin Samaariyaa sunis Yesuusiin, “Ati utuu Yihuudii taatee jirtuu akkamitti ‘na obaasi’ jettee ana dubartii Samaariyaa kadhatta?” jetteen. Yihuudoonni warra Samaariyaa wajjin walitti dhufeenya hin qaban tureetii.
10 Jesus answered, and said unto her—If thou hadst known the free gift of God, and who it is that is saying unto thee, Give me to drink, thou, wouldst have asked him, and he would have given thee living water.
Yesuusis deebisee, “Kennaa Waaqaatii fi inni, ‘na obaasi’ siin jedhu kun eenyu akka taʼe utuu beektee silaa situ isa kadhata ture; innis bishaan jireenyaa siif kenna ture” jedheen.
11 She saith unto him—Sir! not even a bucket, hast thou, —and, the well, is, deep: —Whence, then, hast thou the living water?
Dubartittiinis akkana jetteen; “Yaa gooftaa, ati waan ittiin waraabbattu hin qabdu; boolli bishaanii kunis gad fagoo dha. Yoos bishaan jireenyaa eessaa argatta?
12 Art, thou, greater than, our father Jacob, who gave us the well, —and, himself, out of it drank, and his sons, and his flocks?
Ati abbaa keenya Yaaqoob isa boolla bishaanii kana nuu kenne caalta moo? Inni mataan isaa, ijoolleen isaatii fi horiin isaa boolla bishaanii kana keessaa dhugaa turan.”
13 Jesus answered, and said unto her—Whosoever drinketh of this water, will thirst, again;
Yesuus immoo akkana jedhee deebise; “Namni bishaan kana dhugu hundinuu deebiʼee ni dheebota;
14 But, whosoever shall drink of the water which, I, will give him, in nowise shall thirst, unto times age-abiding, —but, the water which I will give him, shall become, within him, a fountain of water, springing up unto life age-abiding. (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
garuu namni bishaan ani isaaf kennu dhugu kam iyyuu gonkumaa hin dheebotu. Bishaan ani isaaf kennu isa keessatti burqaa bishaanii isa jireenya bara baraatiif burqu ni taʼa.” (aiōn g165, aiōnios g166)
15 The woman saith unto him—Sir! give me this water, that I thirst not, neither be coming hither to draw.
Dubartittiinis, “Yaa Gooftaa, akka ani hin dheebonneef, bishaan waraabuufis akka ani as hin dhufneef bishaan sana naa kenni” jetteen.
16 He saith unto her—Go, call thy husband, and come hither!
Yesuus immoo, “Dhaqiitii dhirsa kee waamii kottu!” jedheen.
17 The woman answered, and said [unto him]—I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her—Well, saidst thou, A husband, I have not;
Dubartittiin, “Ani dhirsa hin qabu” jetteen. Yesuusis akkana jedheen; “Dhirsa hin qabu jechuun kee sirrii dha;
18 for, five husbands, thou hast had, —and, now, he whom thou hast, is not thy, husband: This true thing, hast thou spoken.
ati dhirsoota shan qabda turteetii; namichi amma si wajjin jirus dhirsa kee miti. Wanni ati amma dubbate dhugaa dha.”
19 The woman saith unto him—Sir! I perceive that, a prophet, art, thou: —
Dubartittiinis akkana jette; “Yaa Gooftaa, akka ati raajii taate nan hubadha.
20 Our fathers, in this mountain, worshipped; and, ye, say, that, in Jerusalem, is the place, where, to worship, it behoveth.
Abbootiin keenya tulluu kana irratti sagadaa turan; isin Yihuudoonni garuu iddoon namni itti waaqeffachuu qabu Yerusaalem jettu.”
21 Jesus saith unto her—Believe me, woman! There cometh an hour, when, neither in this mountain, nor yet in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.
Yesuusis akkana jedheen; “Dubartii nana, na amani; yeroon isin itti tulluu kana irrattis taʼu yookaan Yerusaalemitti Abbaa hin waaqeffanne tokko ni dhufa.
22 Ye, worship, that which ye know not; We, worship, that which we know; because, salvation, is, of the Jews.
Isin waan hin beekne waaqeffattu; nu sababii fayyinni Yihuudoota keessaa dhufuuf kan beeknu waaqeffanna.
23 But there cometh an hour, and, now, is, —when, the real worshippers, shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for, even the Father, is seeking, such as these, as his worshippers.
Warri dhugaan waaqeffatan yeroon isaan itti hafuuraa fi dhugaadhaan Abbaa waaqeffatan tokko ni dhufa; amma iyyuu dhufeera; Abbaan warra akkasitti isa waaqeffatan barbaada.
24 God is, spirit; and, they that worship him, in spirit and truth, must needs worship.
Waaqni hafuura; warri isa waaqeffatanis Hafuuraa fi dhugaadhaan waaqeffachuu qabu.”
25 The woman saith unto him—I know that, Messiah, cometh, who is called Christ, —Whensoever, he, shall come, he will tell us, everything.
Dubartittiinis, “Ani akka Masiihiin Kiristoos jedhamu dhufu nan beeka. Inni yommuu dhufutti waan hunda nutti hima” jetteen.
26 Jesus saith unto her—I, that speak unto thee, am he.
Yesuusis, “Ani, namni amma sitti dubbachaa jiru kun isuma” jedheen.
27 And, hereupon, came his disciples, and they began to marvel, that, with a woman, he was talking. No one, however, said—What seekest thou? or—Why talkest thou with her?
Barattoonni isaa yommusuma deebiʼanii utuu inni dubartii tokko wajjin dubbatuu arganii dinqisiifatan. Garuu namni, “Maal barbaadda?” yookaan “Maaliif ishee wajjin haasofta?” jedhee isa gaafatu tokko iyyuu hin turre.
28 The woman, therefore, left her water-vessel, and went away into the city, and saith unto the men—
Dubartiin sunis okkotee ishee dhiiftee gara magaalaatti deebite; namootaanis akkana jette;
29 Come! see a man, that told me all things that ever I did: Can, this, be, the Christ?
“Kottaatii nama waan ani hojjedhe hunda natti hime tokko ilaalaa! Tarii inni Kiristoos taʼinnaa?”
30 They came forth out of the city, and were coming unto him.
Isaanis magaalaa keessaa baʼanii Yesuus bira dhufan.
31 In the meantime, the disciples were requesting him, saying—Rabbi! eat.
Kana gidduutti barattoonni isaa, “Yaa barsiisaa, mee waa nyaadhu!” jedhanii isa kadhatan.
32 But, he, said unto them—I, have, food, to eat, of which, ye, know not.
Inni garuu, “Ani nyaata isin hin beekne kanan nyaadhu qaba” jedheen.
33 The disciples, therefore, began to say, one to another—Hath anyone brought him, to eat?
Barattoonni isaas, “Namatu nyaata fideefii laata?” jedhanii wal gaafatan.
34 Jesus saith unto them—My food, is, that I should do the will of him that sent me, and complete, his work.
Yesuus immoo akkana jedheen; “Nyaanni koo fedhii isa na ergee guutuu fi hojii isaa raawwachuu dha.
35 Are, ye, not saying—Yet, a fourmonth, it is, and, the harvest, cometh? Lo! I say unto you—Lift up your eyes, and gaze at the fields, —that, white, are they unto, harvest. Already,
Isin, ‘Jiʼa afurtu hafe; ergasii midhaan walitti qabama’ jettu mitii? Kunoo, ani isinittan hima; akka midhaan bilchaatee walitti qabamuu gaʼe mee ol jedhaatii lafa qotiisaa ilaalaa!
36 he that reapeth, receiveth, a reward, and gathereth fruit unto life age-abiding; that, he that soweth, together may rejoice, with him that reapeth. (aiōnios g166)
Inni midhaan haamu amma iyyuu mindaa ni argata; jireenya bara baraatiif ija walitti ni qaba; kunis akka inni facaasuu fi inni walitti qabu waliin gammadaniif. (aiōnios g166)
37 For, herein, doth the saying, hold good, —One, is the sower, and, another, is the reaper.
Haala kanaan mammaaksi, ‘Inni tokko ni facaasa; kaan immoo ni haama’ jedhu sun dhugaa dha.
38 I, sent you forth, to be reaping that whereon, ye, have not toiled: Others, have toiled, and, ye, into their toil, have entered.
Ani akka isin waan itti hin dadhabin haammattaniifan isin erge. Warri kaan itti dadhabaniiru; isin garuu buʼaa dadhabbii isaanii galfattu.”
39 And, out of that city, many, believed on him—of the Samaritans, —by reason of the word of the woman in bearing witness—He told me all things that ever I did.
Sababii dubartittiin, “Inni waan ani hojjedhe hunda natti hime” jettee dhugaa baateef namoonni Samaariyaa warri magaalaa sanaa baayʼeen isatti amanan.
40 When, therefore, the Samaritans came unto him, they went on to request him to abide with them; and he abode there two days.
Kanaafuu namoonni Samaariyaa yommuu gara isaa dhufanitti akka inni isaan wajjin turuuf isa kadhatan; innis guyyaa lama achi ture.
41 And, many more, believed by reason of his discourse;
Sababii dubbii isaatiinis namoonni biraa baayʼeen isatti amanan.
42 and, unto the woman, began to say—No longer, by reason of thy talk, do we believe; for, we ourselves, have heard, and know that, This One, is, in truth, the Saviour of the world.
Isaanis dubartittiidhaan, “Siʼachi wanni nu amannuuf sababii dubbii ati nutti himte sanaatiif miti; nu mataan keenya iyyuu isa dhageenyeerraatii; akka inni dhugumaan Fayyisaa addunyaa taʼes beekneerra” jedhan.
43 But, after the two days, he went forth from thence, into Galilee.
Guyyaa lamaan sana booddee Yesuus Galiilaa dhaqe.
44 For, Jesus himself, bare witness, that, a prophet, in his own fatherland, hath not, honour.
Yesuus mataan isaa iyyuu akka raajiin tokko biyya isaa keessatti kabaja hin qabne dubbatee tureetii.
45 So, when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans welcomed him, having seen, all things, whatsoever he had done in Jerusalem during the feast; for, they also, went unto the feast.
Yommuu inni Galiilaa gaʼettis warri Galiilaa isa simatan. Isaanis sababii Yerusaalem turaniif waan inni yeroo Ayyaana Faasiikaatti achitti hojjete hunda arganii turan.
46 So he came again into Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water, wine. And there was a certain courtier, whose son was sick, in Capernaum.
Kanaafuu inni deebiʼee gara Qaanaa ishee Galiilaa keessaa iddoo itti bishaan gara daadhii wayiniitti geeddaree ture sanaa dhaqe. Qondaalli mootii kan ilmi isaa dhukkubsate tokkos Qifirnaahom keessa ture.
47 The same, hearing that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, came away unto him, and began requesting him, that he would come down and heal his son; for he was on the point of dying.
Namichi kunis yommuu akka Yesuus Yihuudaadhaa kaʼee Galiilaa dhufe dhagaʼetti isa bira dhaqee akka inni dhufee ilma isaa kan duʼuu gaʼe sana fayyisu isa kadhate.
48 Jesus therefore said unto him—Except, signs and wonders, ye see, in nowise will ye believe.
Kana irratti Yesuus, “Isin yoo mallattoo fi dinqii argitan malee hin amantan!” isaan jedhe.
49 The courtier saith unto him—Sir! come down, ere my child die!
Qondaaltichis, “Yaa Gooftaa, maaloo utuu mucaan koo hin duʼin naa qaqqabi” jedheen.
50 Jesus saith unto him—Be going thy way: thy son, liveth! And the man believed in the word which Jesus spake to him, and at once went his way.
Yesuusis, “Ilmi kee ni jiraataatii gali!” jedheen. Namichis waan Yesuus isatti dubbate amanee deeme.
51 And, when he was even now going down, his servants, met him, saying, that, his boy, was living.
Utuu inni deemaa jiruus tajaajiltoonni isaa itti dhufanii akka ilmi isaa lubbuun jiru itti himan.
52 So he enquired the hour, from them, when he began, to amend. They said, therefore, unto him—Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him.
Innis yeroo itti mucaa isaatti wayyaaʼe gaafate; isaanis, “Kaleessa saʼaatii torbatti dhagna gubaan isa dhiise” jedhaniin.
53 So the father took note that it was, in that hour, wherein Jesus said unto him—Thy son, liveth! and he believed, he, and all his house.
Abbaan mucichaas akka yeroon sun yeroo Yesuus itti, “Ilmi kee ni jiraata” jedheen taʼe hubate. Kanaafuu innis, warri mana isaa hundinuus ni amanan.
54 Now, this again, as, a second sign, Jesus did, after coming out of Judaea into Galilee.
Kun mallattoo lammaffaa Yesuus erga Yihuudaadhaa Galiilaa dhufee hojjetee dha.
