John 3
1 There was however, a man from among the Pharisees, Nicodemus, his name, —ruler of the Jews.
Parmi les Pharisiens se trouvait un homme du nom de Nicodème. C'était l'un des chefs des Juifs.
2 The same, came unto him, by night, and said unto him—Rabbi! we know that, from God, thou hast come, a teacher; for, no one, can be doing, these signs, which, thou, art doing, except, God, be with him.
Il vint à Jésus pendant la nuit. «Rabbi, lui dit-il, nous savons que tu es venu de la part de Dieu comme docteur, car nul ne peut faire les miracles que tu fais, si Dieu n'est avec lui.»
3 Jesus answered, and said unto him—Verily, verily, I say unto thee: Except one be born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jésus alors lui adressa ces paroles: «En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, personne, s'il ne naît de nouveau, ne peut voir le Royaume de Dieu.»
4 Nicodemus saith unto him—How, can a man be born, when he is, old? Can he, into the womb of his mother, a second time, enter, and be born?
Nicodème lui dit: «Comment un homme qui est vieux peut-il naître! peut-il retourner dans le sein de sa mère et naître une seconde fois?»
5 Jesus answered—Verily, verily, I say unto thee: Except one be born of water and spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jésus répondit: «En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, personne, ne naît d'eau et d'Esprit, ne peut entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu.
6 That which hath been born of the flesh, is, flesh, and, that which hath been born of the spirit, is, spirit.
Ce qui est né de la chair est chair; ce qui est né de l'Esprit est Esprit.
7 Do not marvel, that I said unto thee: Ye must needs be born from above.
Ne t'étonne pas de ce que je t'aie dit: il faut que vous naissiez de nouveau.
8 The spirit, where it pleaseth, doth breathe, and, the sound thereof, thou hearest; but knowest not, whence it cometh and whither it goeth: Thus, is every one who hath been born of the spirit.
Le vent souffle où il veut; tu en entends le bruit, mais tu ne sais ni d'où il vient, ni où il va. Ainsi en est-il de tout homme né de l'Esprit.»
9 Nicodemus answered, and said unto him—How, can these things, come about?
Nicodème l'interrogea: «Comment, dit-il, cela se peut-il faire?»
10 Jesus answered, and said unto him—Art, thou, the teacher of Israel, and, these things, knowest not?
Jésus alors lui adressa ces paroles: «Tu es le docteur d'Israël » et tu ne sais pas ces choses!
11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee: What we know, we speak, and, of what we have seen, we bear witness, and, our witness, ye receive not.
En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, ce que nous savons, nous le disons; ce que nous avons vu, nous l'attestons; et vous n'acceptez pas notre témoignage.
12 If, the earthly things, I told you, and ye believe not, How, if I should tell you the heavenly things, will ye believe?
Si, quand je vous ai parlé des choses de la terre, vous ne croyez pas, comment croiriez-vous si je vous parlais des choses du ciel?
13 And, no one, hath ascended into heaven, save he that, out of heaven, descended, —The Son of Man.
Nul n'est monté au ciel, sinon celui qui est descendu du ciel, le Fils de l'homme qui est au ciel.
14 And, just as, Moses, lifted up the serpent in the desert, so, must, the Son of Man, be lifted up, —
Et de même que, dans le désert, Moïse a élevé le serpent, de même il faut que le Fils de l'homme soit élevé,
afin que quiconque croit en lui ait la vie éternelle.» (aiōnios g166)
16 For God, so loved, the world, that, his Only Begotten Son, he gave, —that, whosoever believeth on him, might not perish, but have life age-abiding. (aiōnios g166)
«Dieu, en effet, a tant aimé le monde qu'il a donné son Fils unique afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse point, mais qu'il ait la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
17 For God, sent not, his Son into the world, that he might judge the world, but, that the world might be saved through him.
Car Dieu n'a pas envoyé son Fils dans le monde pour juger le monde, mais pour que le monde soit sauvé par lui.»
18 He that believeth on him, is not to be judged: he that believeth not, already, hath been judged, —because he hath not believed on the name of the Only Begotten Son of God.
«Qui croit en lui n'est point jugé; qui ne croit point est déjà jugé parce qu'il n'a pas cru au nom du Fils unique de Dieu.
19 And, this, is the judgment: That, the light, hath come into the world, —and men loved, rather the darkness than the light, for, wicked, were their, works.
Voici quel est le jugement: la lumière est venue dans le monde et les hommes ont mieux aimé les ténèbres que la lumière, parce que leurs oeuvres étaient mauvaises.
20 For, whosoever doth practise corrupt things, hateth the light, and cometh not unto the light, lest his works should be reproved;
Quiconque, en effet, commet le mal hait la lumière et ne vient pas vers la lumière, de crainte que ses oeuvres ne soient découvertes et condamnées.
21 But, he that doeth the truth, cometh unto the light, that his works may be, made manifest, that, in God, have they been wrought.
Quant à celui qui pratique la vérité, il vient vers la lumière, afin que ses oeuvres deviennent manifestes, parce que c'est en Dieu qu'elles sont accomplies.»
22 After these things, came Jesus, and his disciples, into the Judaean land; and, there, was he tarrying with them, and immersing.
Après cela, Jésus et ses disciples se rendirent en Judée. Il y demeurait avec eux et il baptisait.
23 And John also was immersing in Aenon, near to him, because, many waters, were there; and they were coming, and being immersed; —
Jean baptisait également à Ainon, près de Salim, parce qu'il y avait là beaucoup d'eau. On y venait alors recevoir le baptême.
24 for, not yet, had John been cast into prison.
En effet, Jean n'avait pas encore été mis en prison.
25 There arose, therefore, a questioning, from among the disciples of John, with a Jew, —concerning purification.
Or, à la suite d'une discussion des disciples de Jean et d'un Juif à propos de la purification,
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him—Rabbi! he who was with thee beyond the Jordan, unto whom, thou, hast borne witness, see! the same, is immersing; and, all, are coming unto him.
ceux-ci vinrent à Jean et lui dirent: «Rabbi, celui qui était avec toi au delà du Jourdain, celui dont tu as été le témoin, voici qu'il baptise et que tout le monde vient à lui.»
27 John answered, and said—A man can receive, nothing, except it have been given him out of heaven.
Jean répondit par ces paroles: «Un homme ne peut rien prendre qui ne lui soit donné du ciel.
28 Ye yourselves, unto me, bear witness, that, I, said—I, am not the Christ; but—I am sent before, That One.
Vous-mêmes vous me rendez le témoignage que j'ai dit: «Je ne suis pas, moi, le Christ; mais je suis envoyé devant lui.»
29 He that hath the bride, is, bridegroom; but, the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth by and hearkeneth unto him, greatly, rejoiceth, by reason of the voice of the bridegroom. This, my joy, therefore, is fulfilled.
L'époux c'est celui qui a l'épouse; l'ami de l'époux qui se tient près de lui et l'écoute, est réjoui d'une grande joie par la voix de l'époux. Cette joie-là est pleinement mienne.
30 That One, it behoveth to increase, —but, me, to decrease.
Lui, il faut qu'il croisse; moi, que je diminue.»
31 He that, from above, doth come, over all, is: he that is of the earth, of the earth, is, and, of the earth, doth speak: he that, out of heaven, doth come, over all, is,
«Celui qui vient d'en haut est au-dessus de tous. Celui qui vient de la terre est de la terre et parle de la terre; celui qui vient du ciel est au-dessus de tous;
32 What he hath seen and heard, of, the same, he beareth witness, —and, his witness, no one, receiveth: —
il atteste ce qu'il a vu et entendu et personne n'accepte son témoignage.
33 He that hath received his witness, hath set seal—that, God, is, true.
Celui qui accepte son témoignage confirme que Dieu est véridique.
34 For, he whom God hath sent, the sayings of God, doth speak; for, not by measure, giveth he the Spirit.
Car ce sont les paroles de Dieu que prononce celui que Dieu a envoyé, parce que ce n'est pas avec mesure que Dieu donne l'Esprit.
35 The Father, loveth the Son, and, all things, hath given into his hand.
Le Père aime le Fils, et a tout remis entre ses mains.
36 He that believeth on the Son, hath life age-abiding: whereas, he that yieldeth not unto the Son, shall not see life, —but, the anger of God, awaiteth him. (aiōnios g166)
Qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle; qui refuse de croire au Fils ne verra pas la vie; mais la colère de Dieu demeure sur lui.» (aiōnios g166)
