John 18
1 Having said these things, Jesus, went out, with his disciples, across the winter-torrent of the Kedron, where was a garden, —into which he entered, he, and his disciples.
Nachdem Jesus so gebetet hatte, ging er mit seinen Jüngern (aus der Stadt) hinaus über den Bach Kidron hinüber an einen Ort, wo ein Garten war, in den er mit seinen Jüngern eintrat.
2 Now, Judas also, who was delivering him up, knew the place: because, oft, had Jesus been gathered there, with his disciples.
Aber auch Judas, sein Verräter, kannte diesen Ort, weil Jesus dort oft mit seinen Jüngern zusammengekommen war.
3 Judas, therefore, receiving the band, and officers, from among the High-priests and [from among] the Pharisees, cometh thither, with lights and torches and weapons.
Nachdem nun Judas die Abteilung Soldaten und von den Hohenpriestern und Pharisäern Diener erhalten hatte, kam er mit Fackeln, Laternen und Waffen dorthin.
4 Jesus, therefore, knowing all the things coming upon him, went forth, and saith unto them—Whom, seek ye?
Wiewohl nun Jesus alles wußte, was über ihn kommen würde, trat er doch (aus dem Garten) hinaus und fragte sie: »Wen sucht ihr?«
5 They answered him—Jesus, the Nazarene. He saith unto them—I, am he. Now Judas also, who was delivering him up, was standing with them.
Sie antworteten ihm: »Jesus von Nazareth.« Er sagte zu ihnen: »Der bin ich.« Auch Judas, sein Verräter, stand bei ihnen.
6 When, therefore, he said unto them, I, am he, they went backwards, and fell to the ground.
Als Jesus nun zu ihnen sagte: »Der bin ich!«, wichen sie zurück und fielen zu Boden.
7 Again, therefore, he questioned them—Whom, seek ye? And, they, said—Jesus, the Nazarene.
Da fragte er sie nochmals: »Wen sucht ihr?« Sie sagten: »Jesus von Nazareth.«
8 Jesus answered—I told you, I, am he. If, then, ye seek me, let these go their way: —
Jesus antwortete: »Ich habe euch gesagt, daß ich es bin. Wenn ihr also mich sucht, so laßt diese hier gehen!«
9 that the word might be fulfilled which he had said—As touching them whom thou hast given me, I lost from among them, not so much as one.
So sollte sich das Wort erfüllen, das er ausgesprochen hatte: »Ich habe keinen von denen, die du mir gegeben hast, verloren gehen lassen.«
10 Simon Peter, therefore, having a sword, drew it, and smote the High-priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the name of the servant was Malchus.
Da nun Simon Petrus ein Schwert bei sich hatte, zog er es heraus, schlug damit nach dem Knechte des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm das rechte Ohr ab; der Knecht hieß Malchus.
11 Jesus, therefore, said unto Peter—Thrust the sword into its sheath: —The cup which the Father hath given me, shall I in anywise not drink it?
Da sagte Jesus zu Petrus: »Stecke das Schwert in die Scheide! Soll ich den Kelch nicht trinken, den mir der Vater gereicht hat?«
12 The band, therefore, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, apprehended Jesus, and bound him,
Hierauf nahmen die Abteilung Soldaten mit ihrem Hauptmann und die Diener der Juden Jesus fest, fesselten ihn
13 and led him unto Annas, first; for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was the High-priest of that year.
und führten ihn zunächst zu Hannas ab; dieser war nämlich der Schwiegervater des Kaiphas, der in jenem Jahre Hoherpriester war.
14 Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel unto the Jews, that it was profitable for, one man, to die in behalf of the people.
Kaiphas aber war es, der den Juden den Rat gegeben hatte, es sei besser, daß ein einzelner Mensch für das Volk sterbe.
15 And Simon Peter was following with Jesus, also another disciple. But, that disciple, was known unto the High-priest, and entered in, with Jesus, into the court of the High-priest;
Simon Petrus aber und noch ein anderer Jünger waren Jesus nachgefolgt. Dieser (andere) Jünger war aber mit dem Hohenpriester bekannt und ging (deshalb) gleichzeitig mit Jesus in den Palast des Hohenpriesters hinein,
16 whereas, Peter, remained standing at the door outside. The other disciple, therefore, that was known of the High-priest, went out, and spake unto the portress, and brought in Peter.
während Petrus draußen vor der Tür stehenblieb. Da ging der andere Jünger, der mit dem Hohenpriester bekannt war, hinaus, redete mit der Türhüterin und führte Petrus hinein.
17 The female servant, therefore, the portress, saith unto Peter—Art, thou also, from among the disciples of this man? He, saith—I am not!
Da sagte die Magd, welche die Tür hütete, zu Petrus: »Gehörst du nicht auch zu den Jüngern dieses Menschen?« Er antwortete: »Nein.«
18 Now the servants and the officers were standing by, having made, a coal fire, because it was cold, —and were warming themselves; and Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.
Es standen aber die Knechte und Diener da, hatten sich wegen der Kälte ein Kohlenfeuer angemacht und wärmten sich daran; aber auch Petrus stand bei ihnen und wärmte sich.
19 The High-priest, therefore, questioned Jesus concerning his disciples, and concerning his teaching.
Der Hohepriester (Hannas) befragte nun Jesus über seine Jünger und seine Lehre.
20 Jesus answered him—I, openly, have spoken, unto the world, —I, ever, taught, in synagogue, and in the temple, where all the Jews gather together; and, in secret, spake nothing:
Jesus antwortete ihm: »Ich habe frei und offen zu aller Welt geredet; ich habe allezeit in den Synagogen und im Tempel gelehrt, wo alle Juden zusammenkommen; im geheimen habe ich überhaupt nicht geredet.
21 Why questionest thou me? question them who have heard, what I spake unto them. See! these, know what, I, said.
Warum fragst du mich? Frage die, welche gehört haben, was ich zu ihnen geredet habe; diese wissen, was ich gesagt habe.«
22 And, when, these things, he had said, one of the officers who was standing by, gave a smart blow to Jesus, saying—Thus, answerest thou, the High-priest?
Als er das ausgesprochen hatte, gab einer von den Dienern, der dabeistand, Jesus einen Schlag ins Gesicht und sagte: »So antwortest du dem Hohenpriester?«
23 Jesus answered him—If, with abuse, I spake, bear witness of the abuse: but, if with respect, why, smitest thou me?
Jesus entgegnete ihm: »Wenn ich ungehörig gesprochen habe, so gib an, was ungehörig daran gewesen ist; wenn ich aber richtig gesprochen habe, warum schlägst du mich?«
24 Annas therefore sent him forth, bound, unto Caiaphas the High-priest.
Darauf sandte Hannas ihn gefesselt zum Hohenpriester Kaiphas.
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said, therefore, unto him—Art, thou also, from among his disciples? He, denied, and said—I am not!
Simon Petrus aber stand (unterdessen) da und wärmte sich. Da fragten sie ihn: »Gehörst du nicht auch zu seinen Jüngern?«
26 Saith one from among the servants of the High-priest, being, kinsman, of him whose ear Peter cut off, —Did not, I, see thee, in the garden with him?
Er leugnete aber mit einem »Nein«. Da sagte einer von den Knechten des Hohenpriesters, ein Verwandter des Knechtes, dem Petrus das Ohr abgehauen hatte: »Habe ich dich nicht in dem Garten bei ihm gesehen?«
27 Again, therefore, Peter denied. And, straightway, a cock crew.
Da leugnete Petrus nochmals; und sogleich darauf krähte der Hahn.
28 So they lead Jesus from Caiaphas unto the judgment-hall. Now it was early; and, they themselves, entered not into the judgment-hall, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover.
Man führte Jesus dann aus dem Hause des Kaiphas nach der Statthalterei; es war früh am Morgen. Die Juden selbst gingen dabei nicht in die Statthalterei hinein, um nicht unrein zu werden, sondern das Passah essen zu können.
29 Pilate, therefore, went forth outside unto them, and saith, —What accusation bring ye against this man?
Darum kam Pilatus zu ihnen hinaus und fragte sie: »Welche Anklage habt ihr gegen diesen Mann zu erheben?«
30 They answered and said unto him—If this one had not been doing, mischief, unto thee, had we not delivered him up.
Sie antworteten ihm mit den Worten: »Wenn dieser Mensch kein Verbrecher wäre, so hätten wir ihn dir nicht überliefert!«
31 Pilate, therefore, said unto them—Ye, take him, and, according to your law, judge ye him. The Jews said unto him—Unto us, it is not allowed, to kill anyone!—
Da sagte Pilatus zu ihnen: »Nehmt ihr ihn und richtet ihn nach eurem Gesetz.« Da entgegneten ihm die Juden: »Wir haben nicht das Recht, jemand hinzurichten« –
32 that, the word of Jesus, might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying, by what manner of death, he was about to die.
so sollte sich das Wort Jesu erfüllen, durch das er die Art seines Todes angedeutet hatte.
33 Pilate, therefore, entered again into the judgment-hall; and addressed Jesus, and said unto him—Art, thou, the king of the Jews?
Pilatus ging nun wieder in die Statthalterei hinein, ließ Jesus rufen und fragte ihn: »Bist du der König der Juden?«
34 Jesus answered—Of thyself, art, thou, this thing saying; or did, others, tell thee concerning me?
Jesus antwortete: »Fragst du so von dir selbst aus, oder haben andere es dir von mir gesagt?«
35 Pilate answered—Am, I, a Jew? Thine own nation, and the High-priests, delivered thee up, unto me! What, hast thou done?
Pilatus antwortete: »Ich bin doch kein Jude! Dein Volk und zwar die Hohenpriester haben dich mir überantwortet: was hast du verbrochen?«
36 Jesus answered—My kingdom, is not of this world: If, of this world, had been my kingdom, mine own officers, would have been striving, that I should not be delivered up unto the Jews: but, now, my kingdom, is not from hence.
Jesus antwortete: »Mein Reich ist nicht von dieser Welt. Wäre mein Reich von dieser Welt, so würden meine Diener (für mich) kämpfen, damit ich den Juden nicht überliefert würde; nun aber ist mein Reich nicht von hier.«
37 Pilate, therefore, said unto him—And yet, thou, art, not a king? Jesus answered—Thou, sayest, that, a king, I am: I, for this, have been born, and, for this, have come into the world, —that I may bear witness unto the truth: Every one who is of the truth, hearkeneth unto my voice.
Da sagte Pilatus zu ihm: »Ein König bist du also?« Jesus antwortete: »Ja, ich bin ein König. Ich bin dazu geboren und dazu in die Welt gekommen, um für die Wahrheit Zeugnis abzulegen; jeder, der aus der Wahrheit ist, hört auf meine Stimme.«
38 Pilate saith unto him—What, is truth? And, this saying, again, went he out to the Jews, and saith unto them, —I, find in him, not a single fault.
Darauf antwortete ihm Pilatus: »Was ist Wahrheit?!« Nach diesen Worten ging er wieder zu den Juden hinaus und sagte zu ihnen: »Ich finde keinerlei Schuld an ihm.
39 Howbeit ye have, a custom, that, some one, I should release unto you, during the passover: —Are ye minded, then, that I release unto you the king of the Jews?
Es ist aber herkömmlich bei euch, daß ich euch am Passah einen (Gefangenen) freigebe: soll ich euch also den König der Juden freigeben?«
40 So they cried aloud again, saying—Not this man, but Barabbas! Now, Barabbas, was, a robber.
Da riefen sie wieder laut: »Nein, nicht diesen, sondern den Barabbas!« Barabbas war aber ein Räuber.
