John 11
1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and Martha her sister.
૧બેથાનિયા ગામનો લાજરસ નામે એક માણસ બીમાર હતો. તેની બહેનો માર્થા અને મરિયમ પણ એ જ ગામના હતા.
2 And Mary was she who anointed the Lord with perfume, and wiped his feet with her hair—whose brother Lazarus was sick.
૨મરિયમે ઈસુને અત્તર લગાવ્યું હતું અને પોતાના વાળથી તેમના પગ લૂછ્યા હતા. લાજરસ કે જે બીમાર હતો તે આ જ મરિયમનો ભાઈ હતો.
3 The sisters, therefore, sent out unto him, saying—Lord, see! he whom thou tenderly lovest, is sick.
૩તેથી બહેનોએ તેમને ખબર મોકલી કે, પ્રભુ, જેમનાં પર તમે પ્રેમ રાખો છે, તે બીમાર છે.
4 But Jesus hearing, said—This sickness, is not unto death, but for the glory of God, —that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.
૪પણ ઈસુએ એ સાંભળીને કહ્યું કે, મૃત્યુ થાય એવી આ બીમારી નથી; પણ તે ઈશ્વરના મહિમાર્થે છે, જેથી ઈશ્વરના દીકરાનો મહિમા થાય.
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
૫માર્થા, તેની બહેન મરિયમ તથા લાજરસ પર ઈસુ પ્રેમ રાખતા હતા.
6 When, therefore, he heard that he was sick, then, indeed, he abode in the place where he was, two days.
૬તે બીમાર છે, એવા સમાચાર તેમને મળ્યા ત્યારે પોતે જ્યાં હતા, તે જ સ્થળે તે બે દિવસ સુધી રહ્યા.
7 Then, after this, he saith unto the disciples—Let us be leading on into Judaea, again.
૭ત્યાર પછી શિષ્યોને કહે છે કે, ‘ચાલો, આપણે ફરીથી યહૂદિયા જઈએ.
8 The disciples say unto him—Rabbi! just now, were the Jews seeking to stone thee—and, again, goest thou thither?
૮શિષ્યો તેમને કહે છે કે, ‘ગુરુજી, હમણાં જ યહૂદીઓ તમને પથ્થરે મારવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતા હતા, તે છતાં તમે ત્યાં પાછા જાઓ છો?’”
9 Jesus answered—Are there not, twelve hours, in the day? If one walk in the day, he doth no stumble, because, the light of this world, he seeth;
૯ઈસુએ જવાબ આપ્યો કે, ‘શું દિવસના બાર કલાક નથી? જો દિવસે કોઈ ચાલે, તો તે આ દુનિયાનું અજવાળું જુએ છે, માટે ઠોકર ખાતો નથી.
10 But, if one walk in the night, he stumbleth, because, the light, is not in him.
૧૦પણ જો કોઈ રાત્રે ચાલે, તો તેનામાં અજવાળું ન હોવાથી ઠોકર ખાય છે.’”
11 These things, he said, and, after this, he saith unto them—Lazarus, our dear friend, hath fallen asleep; but I am going, that I may awake him.
૧૧તેમણે એ વાતો કહી, ત્યાર પછી તે તેઓને કહે છે કે, ‘આપણો મિત્ર લાજરસ ઊંઘી ગયો છે; હું તેને ઊંઘમાંથી જગાડવા માટે જવાનો છું.’”
12 The disciples, therefore, said unto him—Lord! if he have fallen asleep, he will recover.
૧૨ત્યારે શિષ્યોએ તેમને કહ્યું કે, ‘પ્રભુ, જો તે ઊંઘી ગયો હોય તો તે સાજો થશે.’”
13 But Jesus had spoken concerning his death; whereas, they, supposed that, concerning the taking of rest in sleep, he had been speaking.
૧૩ઈસુએ તો તેના મૃત્યુ વિષે કહ્યું હતું, પણ તેઓને એમ લાગ્યું કે તેમણે ઊંઘમાં વિસામો લેવા વિષે કહ્યું હતું.
14 Jesus, therefore, then, said unto them, plainly, —Lazarus, died;
૧૪ત્યારે ઈસુએ તેઓને સ્પષ્ટ કહ્યું કે, ‘લાજરસ મૃત્યુ પામ્યો છે.
15 and I rejoice, for your sake—that ye may believe, —that I was not there; but let us be going unto him.
૧૫હું ત્યાં નહોતો, માટે હું તમારે માટે હર્ષ પામું છું, એટલા માટે કે તમે વિશ્વાસ કરો; પણ ચાલો, આપણે તેમની પાસે જઈએ.’”
16 Thomas, therefore, the one called Didymus, said unto his fellow-disciples—Let, us also, be going, that we may die with him.
૧૬ત્યારે થોમા, જે દીદીમસ કહેવાય છે, તેણે પોતાના સાથી શિષ્યોને કહ્યું કે, ‘આપણે પણ જઈએ અને તેની સાથે મરણ પામીએ.’”
17 Jesus, therefore, coming, found that, four days already, had he been in the tomb.
૧૭હવે જયારે ઈસુ ત્યાં આવ્યા ત્યારે તેમને ખબર પડી કે, લાજરસને કબરમાં મૂક્યાને ચાર દિવસ થઈ ગયા છે.
18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;
૧૮હવે બેથાનિયા યરુશાલેમની નજદીક, એટલે માત્ર ત્રણેક કિલોમિટર દૂર હતું.
19 and, many from among the Jews, had come unto Martha and Mary, that they might console them concerning their brother.
૧૯માર્થા તથા મરિયમની પાસે તેઓના ભાઈ સંબંધી દિલાસો આપવા માટે યહૂદીઓમાંના ઘણાં આવ્યા હતા.
20 Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet him; but, Mary, in the house, remained sitting.
૨૦ઈસુ આવે છે, એ સાંભળીને માર્થા તેમને મળવા ગઈ; પણ મરિયમ ઘરમાં જ બેસી રહી.
21 Martha, therefore, said unto Jesus—Lord! if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;
૨૧ત્યારે માર્થાએ ઈસુને કહ્યું કે, ‘પ્રભુ, જો તમે અહીં હોત, તો મારો ભાઈ મૃત્યુ પામત નહિ.
22 And, now, I know, that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God, will give unto thee.
૨૨પણ તમે ઈશ્વર પાસે જે કંઈ માગશો, તે ઈશ્વર તમને આપશે, એ હું જાણું છું.’”
23 Jesus saith unto her—Thy brother shall rise.
૨૩ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, ‘તારો ભાઈ પાછો ઊઠશે.’”
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise, in the resurrection, in the last day.
૨૪માર્થાએ કહ્યું કે, ‘છેલ્લે દિવસે તે પુનરુત્થાન પામશે, એ હું જાણું છું.’”
25 Jesus said unto her—I, am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, even though he die, shall live again!
૨૫ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, ‘પુનરુત્થાન તથા જીવન હું છું; જે મારા પર વિશ્વાસ કરે છે, તે જોકે મૃત્યુ પામે તોપણ તે સજીવન થશે.
26 And, no one who liveth again and believeth on me, shall in anywise die, unto times age-abiding. Believest thou this? (aiōn g165)
૨૬અને જે કોઈ જીવંત વ્યક્તિ મારા પર વિશ્વાસ કરે છે, તે કદી મરશે નહીં જ; તું શું એવો વિશ્વાસ રાખે છે?’” (aiōn g165)
27 She saith unto him—Yea, Lord! I, have believed, that, thou, art the Christ, the Son of God, —He who, into the world, should come.
૨૭તેણે તેમને કહ્યું કે, ‘હા પ્રભુ, મેં વિશ્વાસ કર્યો છે કે તમે ઈશ્વરના દીકરા ખ્રિસ્ત છો, જે દુનિયામાં આવનાર છે, તે જ તમે છો.
28 And this saying, she went away, and called Mary her sister, secretly, saying—The teacher, is present, and calleth thee.
૨૮એમ કહીને માર્થા ચાલી ગઈ, અને પોતાની બહેન મરિયમને છાની રીતે બોલાવીને કહ્યું કે, ગુરુ આવ્યા છે, અને તને બોલાવે છે.’”
29 And, she, when she heard, was roused up quickly, and was coming unto him.
૨૯એ સાંભળતાં જ મરિયમ તરત જ ઊઠીને તેમની પાસે ગઈ.
30 Not yet, however, had Jesus come into the village, but was still in the place where, Martha, met him.
૩૦ઈસુ તો હજી ગામમાં આવ્યા ન હતા, પણ જ્યાં માર્થા તેમને મળી હતી તે જગ્યાએ હતા.
31 The Jews, therefore, who were with her in the house and consoling her, seeing Mary, that quickly she arose and went out, followed her, supposing that she was withdrawing unto the tomb, that she might weep there.
૩૧ત્યારે જે યહૂદીઓ તેમની સાથે ઘરમાં હતા અને તેને સાંત્વના આપતા હતા, તેઓએ જોયું કે મરિયમ જલદી ઊઠીને બહાર ગઈ, ત્યારે તે કબર પર રડવાને જાય છે, એવું ધારીને તેઓ મરિયમની પાછળ ગયા.
32 Mary, therefore, when she came where Jesus was, seeing him, fell at his feet, saying unto him—Lord! if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
૩૨ઈસુ જ્યાં હતા ત્યાં મરિયમે આવીને તેમને જોયા, ત્યારે તેણે તેમને પગે પડીને ઈસુને કહ્યું કે, ‘પ્રભુ, જો તમે અહીં હોત, તો મારો ભાઈ મૃત્યુ પામત નહીં.
33 Jesus, therefore, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, was indignant in the spirit, and troubled himself,
૩૩ત્યારે ઈસુએ તેને રડતી જોઈને તથા જે યહૂદીઓ તેની સાથે આવ્યા હતા તેઓને પણ રડતા જોઈને, મનમાં નિસાસો મૂકી તથા આત્મામાં વ્યાકુળ થઈને,
34 and said—Where have ye laid him? They say unto him—Lord! come and see.
૩૪પૂછ્યું કે, ‘તમે તેને ક્યાં મૂક્યો છે?’ તેઓ તેમને કહે છે કે, પ્રભુ આવીને જુઓ.
35 Jesus wept.
૩૫ઈસુ રડ્યા.
36 The Jews, therefore, were saying—See! how tenderly he loved him!
૩૬એ જોઈને યહૂદીઓએ કહ્યું કે, ‘જુઓ, તે તેના પર કેટલો બધો પ્રેમ રાખતા હતા!
37 But, some from among them, said—Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that, this one also, should not have died?
૩૭પણ તેઓમાંના કેટલાકે કહ્યું કે, જેમણે અંધજનોની આંખો ઉઘાડી, તેમનાંમાં શું આ માણસ મૃત્યુ ન પામે એવું કરવાની પણ શક્તિ ન હતી?’”
38 Jesus, therefore, again, being indignant within himself, cometh unto the tomb. Now it was a cave, and, a stone, was lying thereon.
૩૮ફરીથી ઈસુ નિસાસો નાખીને કબર પાસે આવ્યા. તે તો ગુફા હતી, અને તેના પર એક પથ્થર મૂકેલો હતો.
39 Jesus, saith, Take ye away the stone! Martha, the sister of the deceased, saith unto him—Lord! by this time, he stinketh, for it is, four days.
૩૯ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, ‘પથ્થરને ખસેડો.’ મૃત્યુ પામેલાની બહેન માર્થાએ તેમને કહ્યું કે, ‘પ્રભુ, હવે તો તે દેહમાંથી દુર્ગંધ આવતી હશે; કેમ કે આજ તેના મૃત્યુને ચાર દિવસ થઈ ગયા છે.’”
40 Jesus saith unto her—Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldst believe, thou shouldst see the glory of God?
૪૦ઈસુ તેને કહે છે કે, ‘જો તું વિશ્વાસ કરશે, તો તું ઈશ્વરનો મહિમા જોશે, એવું મેં તને નથી કહ્યું શું?’”
41 So they took away the stone. And, Jesus, lifted up his eyes on high, and said—Father! I thank thee, thou didst hear me:
૪૧ત્યારે તેઓએ પથ્થર ખેસેડ્યો, ઈસુએ આંખો ઊંચી કરીને કહ્યું કે, ‘ઓ બાપ, તમે મારું સાંભળ્યું છે, માટે હું તમારો આભાર માનું છું.
42 I, indeed, knew that, always, unto me, thou dost hearken; but, for the sake of the multitude standing around, I spake, —that they might believe that, thou, didst send me forth.
૪૨તમે નિત્ય મારું સાંભળો છો, એ હું જાણતો હતો; પણ જે લોક આસપાસ ઊભા રહેલા છે, તેઓ વિશ્વાસ કરે કે, તમે મને મોકલ્યો છે, માટે તેઓને લીધે મેં એ કહ્યું.’”
43 And, these things, having said, with a loud voice, he cried out—Lazarus! Come forth!
૪૩એમ બોલ્યા પછી તેમણે મોટા અવાજે હાંક મારી કે, ‘લાજરસ, બહાર આવ.’”
44 He that was dead came forth, bound feet and hands with bandages, and, his face, with a napkin, was bound about. Jesus saith unto them—Loose him, and let him go.
૪૪ત્યારે જે મૃત્યુ પામેલો હતો તે હાથે પગે દફનના વસ્ત્રો બાંધેલો બહાર આવ્યો, તેના મૂખ પર રૂમાલ વીંટાળેલો હતો. ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું, તેનાં બંધન છોડી નાખો અને તેને જવા દો.
45 Many therefore from among the Jews, who had come unto Mary, and gazed on what he did, believed on him
૪૫તેથી જે યહૂદીઓ મરિયમની પાસે આવ્યા હતા, અને તેમણે ઈસુએ જે કર્યું તે જોયું હતું, તેઓમાંથી ઘણાંએ તેમના પર વિશ્વાસ કર્યો.
46 but, certain from among them, went away unto the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done.
૪૬પણ તેઓમાંના કેટલાકે ફરોશીઓની પાસે જઈને ઈસુએ જે કામ કર્યાં હતા, તે તેઓને કહી સંભળાવ્યાં.
47 The High-priests and Pharisees, therefore, brought together a high-council, and were saying—What are we to do, in that, this man, doeth, many signs?
૪૭એ માટે મુખ્ય યાજકોએ તથા ફરોશીઓએ સભા બોલાવીને કહ્યું કે, ‘આપણે શું કરીએ? કેમ કે એ માણસ તો ઘણાં ચમત્કારિક ચિહ્નો કરે છે.
48 If we let him alone thus, all, will believe on him, and the Romans will come, and take away, both our place and nation.
૪૮જો આપણે તેમને એમ જ રહેવા દઈશું, તો સર્વ તેના પર વિશ્વાસ કરશે અને રોમનો આવીને આપણું રહેઠાણ તથા આપણો દેશ લઈ લેશે.
49 But, a certain one from among them, Caiaphas, being, High-priest, for that year, said unto them—Ye, know, nothing at all;
૪૯પણ કાયાફા નામે તેઓમાંનો એક જે તે વર્ષે પ્રમુખ યાજક હતો, તેણે તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘તમે કંઈ જાણતા નથી,
50 nor do ye take into account, that it is profitable for you that, one man, should die for the people, and not, the whole nation, perish.
૫૦વિચારતા નથી કે લોકોને માટે એક માણસ બલિદાન આપે અને તેથી સર્વ પ્રજાનો નાશ થાય નહિ, એ તમારે માટે હિતકારક છે.’”
51 This, however, from himself, he spake not, but, being, High-priest, for that year, he prophesied, that Jesus was about to die for the nation;
૫૧તેણે તો એ પોતાના તરફથી કહ્યું ન હતું, પણ તે વરસમાં તે પ્રમુખ યાજક હોવાથી તેણે ભવિષ્ય કહ્યું કે, લોકોને માટે ઈસુ મૃત્યુ પામશે.
52 and, not for the nation only, but that, the scattered children of God also, he might gather together into one.
૫૨અને એકલા યહૂદી લોકોના માટે નહિ, પણ એ માટે કે ઈશ્વરનાં વિખૂટાં પડેલાં બાળકોને પણ તે એકઠાં કરીને તેઓને એક કરે.
53 From that day, therefore, they took counsel, that they might put him to death.
૫૩તેથી તે દિવસથી માંડીને તેમને મારી નાખવાની તેઓ યોજના કરવા લાગ્યા.
54 Jesus, therefore, no longer openly, was walking among the Jews, but departed thence, into the country near the desert, unto a city called, Ephraim; and, there, abode, with his disciples.
૫૪તે માટે ત્યાર પછી યહૂદીઓમાં ઈસુ જાહેર રીતે ફર્યા નહિ, પણ ત્યાંથી અરણ્ય પાસેના પ્રાંતના એફ્રાઈમ નામના શહેરમાં ગયા અને પોતાના શિષ્યો સહિત ત્યાં રહ્યાં.
55 Now the passover of the Jews was at hand, and many went up unto Jerusalem, out of the country, before the passover, that they might purify themselves.
૫૫હવે યહૂદીઓનું પાસ્ખાપર્વ પાસે આવ્યું હતું, પાસ્ખા અગાઉ ઘણાં લોકો પોતાને શુદ્ધ કરવાને બીજા ગામથી યરુશાલેમમાં ગયા હતા.
56 They were therefore seeking Jesus, and were saying one to another, in the temple, standing—How seemeth it unto you? that he will in nowise come unto the feast?
૫૬માટે તેઓએ ઈસુની શોધ કરી અને ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં ઊભા રહેલાઓએ પરસ્પર કહ્યું કે, તમને શું લાગે છે? શું પર્વમાં તે આવવાના નથી?’”
57 Now the High-priests and the Pharisees had given commands, that, if anyone came to know where he was, he should inform [them], so that they might seize him.
૫૭હવે મુખ્ય યાજકોએ તથા ફરોશીઓએ એવી આજ્ઞા આપી હતી કે, જો કોઈ માણસને માલૂમ પડે કે તે ઈસુ ક્યાં છે તો તેણે ખબર આપવી, એ માટે કે તેઓ ફરોશીઓ તેમને પકડે.
