< Joel 1 >
1 The word of Yahweh, which came unto Joel, son of Pethuel.
Naʻe hoko ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kia Soeli ko e foha ʻo Petueli.
2 Hear this, ye elders, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land, —hath this ever happened in your days? or in the days of your fathers?
Fanongo ki he meʻa ni, ʻakimoutolu ko e kau mātuʻa, pea tokanga homou telinga, ʻae kakai ʻoe fonua. Kuo ʻai ha meʻa pehē ni ʻi homou ngaahi ʻaho, pe ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ʻo hoʻomou ngaahi tamai?
3 Concerning it, to your children, tell ye the story, —and your children, to their children, and their children, to the generation following: —
Tala ia ki hoʻomou fānau, pea ke nau tala ki heʻenau fānau, pea mo e fānau ʻanautolu ki he toʻutangata ʻe taha.
4 That which was left by the creeping locust, hath the swarming locust eaten, and, that which was left by the swarming locust, hath the grass locust eaten; and, that which was left by the grass locust, hath the corn locust eaten.
Ko ia naʻe tuku ʻe he heʻe kuo kai ʻe he heʻe maumau; pea ko ia naʻe tuku ʻe he heʻe maumau kuo kai ʻe he ʻunufe fulufulu, pea ko ia naʻe tuku ʻe he ʻunufe fulufulu, kuo kai ʻe he ʻunufe.
5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep, and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, —over the new wine, because it hath been cut off from your mouth.
ʻAe kau konā, mou ʻā, pea tangi; pea fakatangiloloa, ʻakimoutolu ʻae kau inu uaine, koeʻuhi ko e uaine foʻou; he kuo motuhi ia mei homou ngutu.
6 For, a nation, hath come up over my land, bold, and without number, —his teeth, are the teeth of a lion, and, the fangs of a lioness, hath he!
He kuo ʻalu hake ha puleʻanga ki hoku fonua, ʻoku mālohi pea taʻefaʻalaua, ko hono nifo ko e nifo ʻoe laione, pea ko hono kouʻahe ko e kouʻahe ʻoe laione lahi.
7 He hath turned my vine to a waste, and my fig-tree to splinters, —he hath, barked it clean, and cast it down, bleached are its branches.
Kuo ne fakalala ʻeku vaine, pea fohiʻi ʻae kili ʻo ʻeku ʻakau ko e fiki; kuo ne fakamolemole ia ʻo maʻa; kuo fakahinehina hono ngaahi vaʻa.
8 Wail thou, like a virgin girded with sackcloth, for the owner of her youth.
Tangi, ʻo hangē ko e taʻahine poloʻi kuo kofuʻaki ʻae tauangaʻa, koeʻuhi ko e husepāniti ʻo ʻene kei siʻi.
9 Cut off are the meal-offering and the drink-offering, from the house of Yahweh, —In grief are the priests, the attendants on Yahweh: —
Ko e hifo ʻaki ʻae meʻakai, pea mo e hifo ʻaki ʻae meʻainu kuo motuhi ia mei he fale ʻo Sihova; ʻoku tangi ʻae kau taulaʻeiki, ʻae kau faifekau ʻa Sihova.
10 Laid waste is the field, in grief is the soil, —for laid waste is the corn, abashed is the new wine, languisheth the oil.
ʻOku maumau ʻae ngoue, ʻoku tangi ʻae fonua; he kuo maumauʻi ʻae koane; ʻoku maha ʻae uaine foʻou, ʻoku vaivai ʻae lolo.
11 Turn pale, ye husbandmen, howl, ye vinedressers, over the wheat, and over the barley, —for perished is the harvest of the field.
Mou mā, ʻae kau tangata ngoue; fakatangilōloa, ʻe kau tauhi vaine, koeʻuhi ko e uite mo e paʻale; he kuo ʻauha ʻae ututaʻu ʻi he ngoue.
12 The vine, is abashed, and, the fig-tree, languisheth, —pomegranate, palm also, and apple—all the trees of the field, have withered, Yea abashed is gladness, away from the sons of men.
ʻOku mōmoa ʻae vaine, ʻoku vaivai ʻae ʻakau ko e fiki; ko e ʻakau ko e pomikanite, mo e ʻakau ko e ponga, mo e ʻakau ko e ʻapele foki, ʻio, ko e ʻakau kotoa pē ʻoe ngoue ʻoku mae; koeʻuhi ʻoku mate ʻae fiefia mei he loto ʻoe ngaahi foha ʻoe tangata.
13 Gird yourselves and beat the breast—ye priests, howl, ye attendants of the altar, go in and wrap yourselves for the night in sackcloth, ye attendants on my God, —for, withholden from the house of your God, are the meal-offering and the drink- offering.
Noʻotaki homou vala, pea tangi, ʻae kau taulaʻeiki: tangi fakalōloa, ʻae kau faifekau ʻoe feilaulauʻanga; haʻu, ʻo tokoto ʻi he pō kātoa ʻi he tauangaʻa ʻae kau tamaioʻeiki ʻa hoku ʻOtua: he ko e feilaulau meʻakai pea mo e feilaulau inu, kuo taʻofi mei he fale ʻo homou ʻOtua.
14 Hallow ye a fast, Call a solemn assembly, Gather, O elders, all the inhabitants of the land, unto the house of Yahweh your God, —and make ye outcry unto Yahweh.
Mou tuʻutuʻuni ʻae ʻaukai, fanongonongo ʻae fakataha mamafa, tānaki ʻae kau mātuʻa, pea mo e kakai kotoa pē ʻoe fonua ki he fale ʻo Sihova ko homou ʻOtua, pea tangi kia Sihova, ʻo pehē,
15 Alas for the day! For near is the day of Yahweh, and, as a veritable Destruction from the Destroyer, shall it come.
ʻOiauē ʻae ʻaho! He kuo ofi ʻae ʻaho ʻo Sihova, pea ʻe hoko mai ia ʻo hangē ko e fakaʻauha mei he Māfimafi.
16 Is it not, before our eyes, that, food, hath been cut off? From the house of our God, rejoicing and exultation.
ʻIkai kuo motuhi ʻae meʻakai mei hotau mata, ʻio, ko e fiefia mo e nekeneka mei he fale ʻo hotau ʻOtua?
17 Rotted hath the seed, under their clods, Laid waste are their stores, Thrown down are the garners, —Yea abashed is the corn.
ʻOku popo ʻae tenga ʻi he loto kelekele, ʻoku lala ʻae ngaahi feleoko, kuo holoki ʻae ngaahi fale koloa; he kuo mae ʻae koane.
18 How do the beasts groan! Perplexed are the herds of oxen, because there is no pasture for them, —even, the flocks of sheep, are destroyed!
ʻOiauē ʻae toʻe ʻae fanga manu! ʻOku feinga ʻae fanga pulu, koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai hanau mohuku; ʻio, ʻoku tuʻutāmaki ʻae fanga sipi.
19 Unto thee, O Yahweh, will I cry, —for, a fire, hath consumed the pastures of the wilderness, and, a flame, hath set ablaze all the trees of the field.
ʻE Sihova, te u tangi kiate koe: koeʻuhi kuo kai ʻe he afi ʻae mohuku ʻoe toafa, pea kuo tutu ʻe he ulo afi ʻae ngaahi ʻakau kotoa pē ngoue.
20 Even the beasts of the field, moan unto thee, —because dried up are the channels of water, and, a fire, hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
ʻOku tangi foki kiate koe ʻae fanga manu ʻoe vao: koeʻuhi ʻoku mōmoa ʻae ngaahi tafeʻanga vai, pea kuo kai ʻe he afi ʻae mohuku ʻoe toafa.
