Joel 1
1 The word of Yahweh, which came unto Joel, son of Pethuel.
El Señor envió un mensaje a través de Joel, hijo de Petuel.
2 Hear this, ye elders, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land, —hath this ever happened in your days? or in the days of your fathers?
Escuchen esto, ancianos. Presten atención todos los que habitan la tierra. ¿Alguna vez ha ocurrido algo semejante a esto en su experiencia o la de sus antepasados?
3 Concerning it, to your children, tell ye the story, —and your children, to their children, and their children, to the generation following: —
Enseñen esto a sus hijos, y que ellos también enseñen a sus hijos, y sus hijos a la siguiente generación.
4 That which was left by the creeping locust, hath the swarming locust eaten, and, that which was left by the swarming locust, hath the grass locust eaten; and, that which was left by the grass locust, hath the corn locust eaten.
Lo que dejaron las langostas devastadoras, se lo han comido las langostas acaparadoras; lo que dejaron las langostas acaparadoras, se lo han comido las angostas saltamontes; y lo que han dejado las langostas saltamontes, se lo han comido las langostas destructoras.
5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep, and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, —over the new wine, because it hath been cut off from your mouth.
¡Despierten, borrachos, y lloren! ¡Giman, bebedoresde vino, porque les han arrebatado el vino nuevo de la boca!
6 For, a nation, hath come up over my land, bold, and without number, —his teeth, are the teeth of a lion, and, the fangs of a lioness, hath he!
Una nación ha invadido mi tierra: es poderosa y son tantos que no se pueden contar. Sus dientes son como de león, sus muelas como de leona.
7 He hath turned my vine to a waste, and my fig-tree to splinters, —he hath, barked it clean, and cast it down, bleached are its branches.
Han arruinado mis viñedos y ha desruído mis higueras, las ha pelado por completo, reduciéndolas a apenas unas cepas blancas y desnudas.
8 Wail thou, like a virgin girded with sackcloth, for the owner of her youth.
Giman como una novia vestida de silicio, lamentando la muerte de su prometido.
9 Cut off are the meal-offering and the drink-offering, from the house of Yahweh, —In grief are the priests, the attendants on Yahweh: —
Ha cesado la ofrenda de grano y de vino en el Templo. Los sacerdotes y ministros se lamentan ante el Señor.
10 Laid waste is the field, in grief is the soil, —for laid waste is the corn, abashed is the new wine, languisheth the oil.
Los campos están devastados, y la tierra gime porque el grano está arruinado, el nuevo vino se seca, y escasea el aceite de oliva.
11 Turn pale, ye husbandmen, howl, ye vinedressers, over the wheat, and over the barley, —for perished is the harvest of the field.
Sientan pena, granjeros, y lloren ustedes, viñadores, porque las cosechas han quedado destruidas.
12 The vine, is abashed, and, the fig-tree, languisheth, —pomegranate, palm also, and apple—all the trees of the field, have withered, Yea abashed is gladness, away from the sons of men.
Los viñedos están resecos, y la higuera se marchita; los árboles de granada, palma y durazno, todos los árboles frutales se han secado, al tiempo que la felicidad del pueblo.
13 Gird yourselves and beat the breast—ye priests, howl, ye attendants of the altar, go in and wrap yourselves for the night in sackcloth, ye attendants on my God, —for, withholden from the house of your God, are the meal-offering and the drink- offering.
¡Vístanse de silicio sacerdotes, y giman! ¡Lloren ustedes, los que ministran ante el altar! Vayan y pasen la noche vestidos con silicio, ministros de mi Dios, porque las ofrendas de grano y vino han cesado en el Templo.
14 Hallow ye a fast, Call a solemn assembly, Gather, O elders, all the inhabitants of the land, unto the house of Yahweh your God, —and make ye outcry unto Yahweh.
Proclamen ayuno, y convoquen una reunión santa. Llamen a los ancianos y al pueblo para que se reúnan en el Templo, y clamen a su Dios, al Señor.
15 Alas for the day! For near is the day of Yahweh, and, as a veritable Destruction from the Destroyer, shall it come.
¡Oh qué día terrible! Porque el día del Señor está cerca, y vendrá como destrucción del Todopoderoso.
16 Is it not, before our eyes, that, food, hath been cut off? From the house of our God, rejoicing and exultation.
¿No hemos visto como se han llevado la comida frente a nuestros ojos? No hay gozo ni alegría en el Templo de Dios.
17 Rotted hath the seed, under their clods, Laid waste are their stores, Thrown down are the garners, —Yea abashed is the corn.
Las semillas plantadas en el suelo se marchitan; los galpones están vacíos, y los graneros están destruidos porque el grano se ha secado.
18 How do the beasts groan! Perplexed are the herds of oxen, because there is no pasture for them, —even, the flocks of sheep, are destroyed!
Los animales de la granja gimen de hambre. Los rebaños de ganado deambulan por todas partes porque no encuentran hierba para comer, y el rebaño de ovejas sufre.
19 Unto thee, O Yahweh, will I cry, —for, a fire, hath consumed the pastures of the wilderness, and, a flame, hath set ablaze all the trees of the field.
¡A ti, Señor, clamo! Porque el fuego ha destruido la hierba en el desierto. Las llamas han quemado las huertas.
20 Even the beasts of the field, moan unto thee, —because dried up are the channels of water, and, a fire, hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
Hasta los animales en las granjas anhelan tu ayuda porque los arroyos se han secado, y el fuego ha destruido los pastizales en el desierto.
