Job 8
1 Then responded Bildad the Shuhite, and said: —
Na ka whakautu a Pirirara Huhi, ka mea,
2 How long wilt thou speak these things? Or, as a mighty wind, shall be the sayings of thy mouth?
Kia pehea ake te roa o tau korero i enei mea? Kia pehea ake te roa o nga kupu a tou mangai e rite ai ki te hau kaha?
3 Should, GOD, pervert justice? Or, the Almighty, pervert righteousness?
E whakaparori ke ranei te Atua i te whakawa? E whakaparori ke ranei te Kaha Rawa i te tika?
4 Though, thy children, sinned against him, and he delivered them into the hand of their transgression,
Ki te mea i hara au tamariki ki a ia, a kua maka atu ratou e ia hei utu mo to ratou he;
5 Yet, if, thou thyself, wilt diligently seek unto GOD, —and, unto the Almighty, wilt make supplication;
Ki te rapu wawe koe i to Atua, a ka inoi ki te Kaha Rawa;
6 If, pure and upright, thou thyself, art, surely, now, will he answer thy prayer, and will prosper thy righteous habitation:
Ki te mea he ma koe, he tika, ina, ka ara ake ia ki a koe aianei, ka manaakitia ano e ia te nohoanga o tou tika.
7 So shall thy beginning appear small, —when, thy latter end, he shall greatly increase!
Ahakoa i iti tou timatanga, e nui noa atu tou whakamutunga.
8 For inquire, I pray thee, of a former generation, and prepare thyself for the research of their fathers; —
Tena ra, ui atu ki to mua whakatupuranga; anga atu hoki ki te mea kua rapua e o ratou matua.
9 For, of yesterday, are, we, and cannot know, for, a shadow, are our days upon earth:
Nonanahi nei hoki tatou, kahore hoki e mohio; he atarangi nei hoki o tatou ra i runga i te whenua;
10 Shall, they, not teach thee—tell thee, and, out of their memory, bring forth words?
E kore ranei ratou e whakaako i a koe, e korero ki a koe, e puaki mai ranei he kupu i o ratou ngakau?
11 Can the paper-reed grow up, without a marsh? Or the rush grow up, without water?
E tupu ranei te wiwi i te mea kahore he repo? E nui ranei te raupo ki te kahore he wai?
12 Though while still, in its freshness, it be not plucked off, yet, before any kind of grass, it doth wither:
I te mea he kaiota tonu, a kihai i tapahia, kua maroke i mua ake i nga otaota katoa.
13 So, shall be the latter end of all who forget GOD, and, the hope of the impious, shall perish:
Ka pera ano nga ara o te hunga katoa e wareware ana ki te Atua, a ka riro ki te kore ta te tangata whakaponokore i tumanako ai.
14 Whose trust shall be contemptible, —and, a spider’s web, his confidence:
Ka motuhia atu tana i whakamanawa atu ai, ko te whare hoki o te pungawerewere hei tumanakohanga mona.
15 He leaneth upon his house, and it will not stand, he holdeth it fast, and it will not remain erect.
Ka okioki atu ia ki tona whare; heoi e kore e tu: u tonu tana pupuri atu, otiia e kore e mau.
16 Full of moisture he is, before the sun, and, over his garden, his shoot goeth forth:
E matomato ana i te mea kahore nei te ra, a e wana ana ona peka i tana kari.
17 Over a heap, his roots are entwined, a place of stones, he descrieth;
Kapi tonu te puranga i ona pakiaka, e kitea ana e ia te wahi kamaka.
18 If one destroy him out of his place, then will it disown him [saying] —I have not seen thee.
Ki te whakamotitia iho ia i tona wahi, ka whakakahore taua wahi ki a ia, ka mea, Kahore ahau i kite i a koe.
19 Lo! that, is the joy of his way, —and, out of the dust, shall others spring up.
Nana, ko te hari tenei o tona ara, a ka tupu ake etahi atu i roto i te puehu.
20 Lo! GOD, will not reject a blameless man, neither will he grasp the hand of evil-doers:
Nana, e kore te Atua e whakakahore ki te tangata tika, e kore ano e puritia e ia te ringa o nga tangata kino.
21 At length he shall fill with laughter thy mouth, and thy lips, with a shout of triumph:
Tera ano tou mangaika whakakiia e ia ki te kata, ou ngutu ki te hamama.
22 They who hate thee, shall be clothed with shame, but, the tent of the lawless, shall not be!
He whakama te kakahu mo te hunga e kino ana ki a koe, a ka kahore noa iho te tapenakara o te hunga kino.
