Job 37
1 Yea, at this, my heart quaketh, and starteth up out of its place.
C’est pour cela que mon cœur a été saisi d’effroi, et qu’il est sorti de sa place.
2 Hear! oh hear! the raging of his voice, A growling sound also, out of his mouth, goeth forth;
Écoutez très attentivement sa voix terrible, et les sons qui sortent de sa bouche.
3 Under the whole heavens, he letteth it loose, His lightning also, unto the wings of the earth;
Lui-même porte ses regards au-dessous de tous les cieux, et sa lumière se répand sur les confins de la terre.
4 After it, roareth a voice, He thundereth with his voice of majesty, Nor will he hold them back, when his voice is heard.
Après lui un bruit éclatera comme un rugissement; il tonnera par la voix de sa grandeur, et lorsqu’on aura entendu sa voix, on ne pourra la comprendre.
5 GOD thundereth with his voice, wonderfully, Doing great things, which we cannot know;
Dieu tonnera merveilleusement par sa voix, lui qui fait des choses grandes et impénétrables;
6 For, to the snow, he saith, Fall earthwards, —Also to the downpour of rain, yea the downpour of his mighty rains.
Qui ordonne de descendre sur la terre à la neige et aux pluies de l’hiver, et à ses fortes ondées;
7 On the hand of every man, he setteth a seal, that all men may take note of his doing.
Qui met un sceau sur la main de tous les hommes, afin qu’ils reconnaissent chacun leurs œuvres.
8 So then the wild-beast hath gone into covert, and, in its lairs, doth it remain.
La bête entrera dans sa tanière, et elle demeurera dans son antre.
9 Out of a chamber cometh a storm-wind, and, out of the north, cold.
Des lieux intérieurs sortira la tempête, et d’Arcturus le froid.
10 By the breath of GOD, is given—frost, and, the breadth of waters, is congealed;
Au souffle de Dieu, la glace se durcit, et de nouveau les eaux les plus abondantes se répandent.
11 Also, with moisture, burdeneth he the thick cloud, He disperseth his lightning-cloud;
Le blé désire les nuées, et les nuées répandent leur lumière.
12 Yea, the same, in circles, turneth itself to and fro, by his steering them to their work, whithersoever he commandeth them, over the face of the world, towards the earth.
Elles parcourent tous les lieux où les conduit la volonté de celui qui les gouverne, et selon ce qu’il leur a ordonné sur la face du globe de la terre,
13 Whether, as a rod, or for his earth, or in lovingkindness, he causeth it to come.
Soit dans une tribu, soit dans sa terre, soit en quelque lieu de sa miséricorde que ce soit, où il leur aura commandé de se trouver.
14 Give thou ear unto this, O Job, Stay, and consider well the wonders of GOD: —
Job, écoute ceci attentivement; arrête-toi, et considère les merveilles de Dieu.
15 Canst thou got to know of GOD’S giving charge over them, or of the causing of the lightning of his cloud to shine forth?
Est-ce que tu sais quand Dieu a ordonné aux pluies de faire paraître la lumière des nuées?
16 Canst thou get to know concerning the poisings of the thick cloud, the wonders of one who is perfect in knowledge?
Est-ce que tu connais les grands sentiers des nuées et les sciences parfaites?
17 That thy garments should be hot when he quieteth the earth from the south?
Tes vêtements ne sont-ils pas échauffés, lorsque le vent du midi souffle sur la terre?
18 Didst thou spread out, with him, the skies, strong as a molten mirror?
Tu as peut-être formé avec lui les cieux qui sont très solides, comme s’ils avaient été coulés en bronze.
19 Let us know what we shall say to him, We cannot set in order, by reason of darkness.
Montre-nous ce que nous pourrons lui dire; car nous, nous sommes enveloppés de ténèbres.
20 Shall it be declared to him—that I would speak? Were any man to say aught, he might he destroyed?
Qui lui racontera ce que je dis? Que si un homme en parle, il sera absorbé.
21 Yet, now, men see not the light, bright though it is in the skies, when, a wind, hath passed over, and cleansed them.
Mais maintenant ils ne voient pas la lumière: soudain l’air s’épaissira en nuées, et le vent, passant, les dissipera.
22 Out of the north, a golden light cometh, Upon GOD, is fearful splendour:
C’est du côté de l’aquilon que l’or vient, et la louange qu’on donne à Dieu doit être accompagnée de crainte.
23 The Almighty, whom we have not fully found out, is great in vigour, —Neither, justice nor abounding righteousness, will he weaken.
Nous ne pouvons le comprendre dignement: il est grand en puissance, en jugement et en justice, et il ne peut être l’objet d’un récit.
24 Therefore, do men revere him, He will not regard any who are wise in heart.
C’est pourquoi les hommes le craindront, et aucun de ceux qui croient être sages n’osera le contempler.
