Job 35
1 Moreover Elihu, responded and said: —
ED Elihu proseguì il suo ragionamento, e disse:
2 This, dost thou think to be right? Thou hast said—My righteousness is more than GOD’S.
Hai tu stimato che ciò [convenga] alla ragione, [Della quale] tu hai detto: La mia giustizia [è] da Dio,
3 For thou dost say, How can one profit by thee? How can I benefit, more than by my sin?
Di dire: Che mi gioverà ella? Che profitto ne avrò più che del mio peccato?
4 I, will answer thee plainly, and thy friends with thee.
Io ti risponderò, Ed a' tuoi compagni teco.
5 Look at the heavens and see, —and survey the skies—they are higher than thou.
Riguarda i cieli, e vedi; E mira le nuvole, quanto sono più alte di te.
6 If thou sinnest, what canst thou work against him? Or, if thy transgressions be multiplied, what canst thou do unto him?
Se tu pecchi, che cosa opererai tu contro a lui? E [se] i tuoi misfatti son moltiplicati, che gli farai tu?
7 If thou art righteous, what canst thou give unto him? Or what, at thy hand, can he accept?
Se tu sei giusto, che cosa gli darai? Ovvero che prenderà egli dalla tua mano?
8 Unto a man like thyself, might thy lawlessness [reach], and, unto a son of the earth-born, thy righteousness.
[Come] la tua malvagità [può nuocer solo] ad un uomo simile a te, [Così] anche la tua giustizia [non può giovare] se non ad un figliuolo d'uomo.
9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions, [men] make outcry, They cry for help, by reason of the arm of the mighty;
Gli oppressati gridano per la grandezza [dell'oppressione], E dànno alte strida per la violenza de' grandi;
10 But none saith—Where is GOD my maker, Who giveth songs in the night;
Ma niuno dice: Ove [è] Dio, mio fattore, Il quale dà materia di cantar di notte?
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and, beyond the bird of the heavens, giveth us wisdom?
Il qual ci ammaestra più che le bestie della terra, E ci rende savi più che gli uccelli del cielo?
12 There, [men] make outcry, and he answereth not, because of the arrogance of evil-doers.
Quivi [adunque] gridano, ed egli non [li] esaudisce, Per la superbia de' malvagi.
13 Howbeit, vanity, will GOD not hear, Yea, the Almighty, will not regard it.
Certamente Iddio non esaudisce la vanità, E l'Onnipotente non la riguarda.
14 How much less when thou sayest thou wilt not regard him! The cause, is before him, and thou must wait for him.
Quanto meno [esaudirà egli te], che dici che tu nol riguardi? Giudica[ti] nel suo cospetto, e poi aspettalo.
15 But, now, because it is not so, [thou sayest] —His anger hath punished, and yet hath he not at all known of transgression;
Certo ora [quello] che l'ira sua ti ha imposto di castigo [è come] nulla; Ed egli non ha preso conoscenza della moltitudine [de' tuoi peccati] molto [innanzi].
16 Thus, Job, vainly openeth his mouth, Without knowledge, he multiplieth words.
Giobbe adunque indarno apre la sua bocca, Ed accumula parole senza conoscimento.
