Job 14
1 Man that is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble:
L'homme né de femme est de courte vie, et rassasié d'agitations.
2 As a flower, he cometh forth—and fadeth, He fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
Il sort comme une fleur, puis il est coupé, et il s'enfuit comme une ombre qui ne s'arrête point.
3 And yet upon such a one as this, hast thou opened thine eye? And, him, wouldst thou bring into judgment with thee?
Cependant tu as ouvert tes yeux sur lui, et tu me tires en cause devant toi.
4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one!
Qui est-ce qui tirera le pur de l'impur? personne.
5 If determined am his days, the number of his months, is with thee, Fixed times for him, thou hast appointed and he cannot go beyond.
Les jours de l'homme sont déterminés, le nombre de ses mois est entre tes mains, tu lui as prescrit ses limites, et il ne passera point au delà.
6 Look sway from him, that he may rest, Till he shall pay off, as a hireling, his day.
Retire-toi de lui, afin qu'il ait du relâche, jusqu'à ce que comme un mercenaire il ait achevé sa journée.
7 Though there is—for a tree—hope, —if it should be cut down, that, again, it will grow, and, the tender branch thereof, will not cease;
Car si un arbre est coupé, il y a de l'espérance, et il poussera encore, et ne manquera pas de rejetons;
8 If its root, should become old in the earth, and, in the dust, its stock should die:
Quoique sa racine soit envieillie dans la terre, et que son tronc soit mort dans la poussière;
9 Through the scent of water, it may break forth, and produce branches like a sapling,
Dès qu'il sentira l'eau il regermera, et produira des branches, comme un arbre nouvellement planté.
10 Yet, man, dieth, and is prostrate, Yea the son of earth doth cease to breathe, and where is he?
Mais l'homme meurt, et perd toute sa force; il expire; et puis où est-il?
11 Waters, have failed from, the sea, and, a river, may waste and dry up;
[Comme] les eaux s'écoulent de la mer, et une rivière s'assèche, et tarit;
12 So, a man, hath lain down, and shall not arise, until there are no heavens, they shall not awake, nor be roused up out of their sleep.
Ainsi l'homme est couché par terre, et ne se relève point; jusqu'à ce qu'il n'y ait plus de cieux ils ne se réveilleront point, et ne seront point réveillés de leur sommeil.
13 Oh that, in hades, thou wouldst hide me! that thou wouldst keep me secret, until the turn of thine anger, that thou wouldst set for me a fixed time, and remember me: (Sheol h7585)
Ô que tu me cachasses dans une fosse sous la terre, que tu m'y misses à couvert jusqu'à ce que ta colère fût passée, [et] que tu me donnasses un terme; après lequel tu te souvinsses de moi! (Sheol h7585)
14 If a man die, can he live again? All the days of my warfare, would I wait, until my relief should come: —
Si l'homme meurt, revivra-t-il? J'attendrai [donc] tous les jours de mon combat, jusqu'à ce qu'il m'arrive du changement.
15 Thou shouldst call, and, I, would answer thee, —For the work of thine own hand, thou shouldst long.
Appelle-moi, et je te répondrai; ne dédaigne point l'ouvrage de tes mains.
16 For, now, my steps, thou countest, Thou wilt not pass over my sin:
Or maintenant tu comptes mes pas, et tu n'exceptes rien de mon péché.
17 Sealed up in a bag, is my transgression, and thou hast glued over mine iniquity.
Mes péchés sont cachetés comme dans une valise, et tu as cousu ensemble mes iniquités.
18 But, in very deed, a mountain falling, will lie prostrate, or, a rock moved out of its place:
Car [comme] une montagne en tombant s'éboule, et [comme] un rocher est transporté de sa place;
19 Stones, have been hollowed out by waters, the floods thereof wash away the dust of the earth, and, the hope of mortal man, thou hast destroyed:
Et [comme] les eaux minent les pierres, et entraînent par leur débordement la poussière de la terre, avec tout ce qu'elle a produit, tu fais ainsi périr l'attente de l'homme [mortel].
20 Thou dost overpower him utterly, and he departeth, Disfiguring his face, so, hast thou sent him away.
Tu te montres toujours plus fort que lui, et il s'en va; [et] lui ayant fait changer de visage, tu l'envoies au loin.
21 His sons, come to honour, and he knoweth it not, Or they are brought low, and he perceiveth it not of them.
Ses enfants seront avancés, et il n'en saura rien; ou ils seront abaissés, et il ne s'en souciera point.
22 But, his flesh, for himself, is in pain, and, his soul, for himself, doth mourn.
Seulement sa chair, [pendant qu'elle est] sur lui, a de la douleur, et son âme s'afflige [tandis qu'elle est] en lui.
