Jeremiah 49
1 Of the sons of Ammon-Thus saith Yahweh: Hath Israel no, sons? Hath he no, heir? Why hath, Malkam, taken possession of Gad, Or have, his people, in the cities thereof, made their dwelling?
Quant aux enfants de Hammon, ainsi a dit l'Eternel: Israël n'a-t-il point d'enfants, ou n'a-t-il point d'héritier? pourquoi donc Malcam a-t-il hérité [du pays] de Gad, et pourquoi son peuple demeure-t-il dans les villes [de Gad]?
2 Therefore, lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh When I will cause to be heard against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, an alarm of war, So shall she become a mound of desolation, And, her villages, with fire, shall blaze, —Then shall Israel, inherit them who inherited him, Saith Yahweh.
C'est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, que je ferai ouïr l'alarme dans Rabba des enfants de Hammon, et elle sera réduite en un monceau de ruines, et les villes de son ressort seront brûlées au feu, et Israël possédera ceux qui l'auront possédé, a dit l'Eternel.
3 Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled Make outcry, ye daughters of Rabbah, Gird you with sackcloth, Lament ye and run to and fro among the fences, —For, Malkam, into captivity, shall go, His priests and his princes, together.
Hurle, ô Hesbon! car Haï a été ravagée. Villes du ressort de Rabba, criez; ceignez le sac sur vous, lamentez, courez le long des haies; car Malcam ira en captivité avec ses Sacrificateurs et ses principaux.
4 Why shouldst thou glory in the vales, The flowing of thy vale O apostate daughter? She who is trusting in her treasures, [saying, ] Who shall invade, me?
Pourquoi te glorifies-tu de tes vallées? ta vallée est écoulée, fille revêche. Elle se confiait en ses trésors, et [disait]: qui viendra contre moi?
5 Behold me! bringing upon thee, terror Declareth My Lord, Yahweh of hosts, From all who are round about thee, —And ye shall be driven out every man before it, And there shall be none to bring home the wanderer;
Voici, je m'en vais faire venir de tous tes environs la frayeur sur toi, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel des armées, et vous serez chassés chacun çà et là, et il n'y aura personne qui rassemble les dispersés.
6 But afterwards, will I bring back the captivity of the sons of Ammon, Declareth Yahweh.
Mais après cela je ferai retourner les captifs des enfants de Hammon, dit l'Etemel.
7 Of Edom—Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Hath counsel perished from the discerning? Is their wisdom corrupt?
Quant à Edom, ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées: n'est-il pas vrai qu'[il] n'[y a] plus de sagesse dans Téman? le conseil a manqué à ses habitants, leur sagesse s'est évanouie.
8 Flee ye turn go down deep to dwell, O inhabitant of Dedan, —For the doom of Esau, have I brought in upon him The time of his visitation.
Fuyez, tournez [le dos], vous habitants de Dédan, qui avez fait des creux pour y habiter; car j'ai fait venir sur Esaü sa calamité, le temps auquel je l'ai visité.
9 If, grape-gatherers, came to thee, Would they not leave, gleanings? If, thieves in the night, Would they not have taken away what sufficed them?
Est-il entré chez toi des vendangeurs? ils ne t'auraient point laissé de grappillage. Sont-ce des larrons de nuit? ils auraient fait du dégât autant qu'il leur aurait suffi.
10 But, I, have stripped Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, And to conceal himself, shall he not be able! Spoiled, are his seed, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.
Mais j'ai fouillé Esaü, j'ai découvert ses lieux secrets, tellement qu'il ne se pourra cacher; sa postérité est ravagée, ses frères aussi, et ses voisins; et ce n'est plus rien.
11 Leave thy fatherless children I, will preserve them alive, —And thy widows, In me, let them trust.
Laisse tes orphelins, et je leur donnerai de quoi vivre, et que tes veuves s'assurent sur moi.
12 For, thus saith Yahweh—Lo! they who had not been adjudged to drink the cup, shall surely drink, And art thou, the one to go unpunished? Thou shalt not go unpunished, but shalt surely drink.
Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel: voici, ceux qui ne devaient point boire de la coupe, en boiront certainement; et toi en serais-tu exempt en quelque manière? tu n'en seras point exempt; mais tu en boiras certainement.
13 For by myself, have I sworn, Declareth Yahweh, That, Bozrah shall become, an astonishment: a reproach and a desolation, and a contempt, —And all her cities shall become age-abiding desolations.
Car j'ai juré par moi-même, dit l'Eternel, que Botsra sera réduite en désolation, en opprobre, en désert, et en malédiction, et que toutes ses villes seront réduites en déserts perpétuels.
14 A report, have I heard from Yahweh, Yea, an envoy, throughout the nations, hath been sent, —Gather yourselves together and come against her, And arise to the battle.
J'ai ouï une publication de par l'Eternel, et il y a un ambassadeur envoyé parmi les nations, [pour leur dire]: assemblez-vous, et venez contre elle, et levez-vous pour combattre.
15 For lo! Small, have I made thee among the nations, —Despised among men!
Car voici, je t'avais fait petit entre les nations, et contemptible entre les hommes.
16 Thy monstrous thing, hath deceived thee, The insolence of thy heart, O thou that inhabitest the hidden recesses of the cliff, That holdest fast the height of the hill, —Though thou set high as an eagle, thy nest, From thence, will I bring thee down, Declareth Yahweh;
Mais ta présomption, [et] la fierté de ton cœur t'ont séduit, toi qui habites dans les creux des rochers, et qui occupes la hauteur des coteaux. Quand tu aurais élevé ton nid comme l'aigle, je t'en ferai descendre, dit l'Eternel.
17 So shall, Edom, become an astonishment, —Every one passing by her, will be astonished and hiss, over all her plagues:
Et l'Idumée sera réduite en désolation, tellement que quiconque passera près d'elle en sera étonné, et lui insultera à cause de toutes ses plaies.
18 Like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and her neighbours, Saith Yahweh, —There shall not dwell there—a man, Nor sojourn therein—any son of the earth-born.
Il n'y demeurera personne, a dit l'Eternel, et aucun fils d'homme n'y séjournera, comme dans la subversion de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, et de leurs lieux circonvoisins.
19 Lo! like a lion, will he come up from the majesty of the Jordan, unto the pasture perennial, But I will wink—I will make him run away therefrom, Who then shall be the Chosen One whom over it, I may set in charge? For who shall be like unto, me? And who shall appoint me, a time? And who is the Shepherd that shall stand before, me?
Voici, il montera comme un lion à cause de l'enflure du Jourdain, vers la demeure du pays rude, et après l'avoir fait reposer je le ferai courir hors de l'Idumée. Et qui [est] d'élite, que je lui donne commission contre elle? car qui est semblable à moi? et qui me déterminera le temps? et qui sera le Pasteur qui tiendra ferme contre moi?
20 Wherefore, hear ye The counsel of Yahweh which he hath counseled against Edom, And his devices which he hath devised against the inhabitants of Teman, —Surely the little ones of the flock shall drag them away, Surely he will cause their fold to be astounded over them.
C'est pourquoi écoutez la résolution que l'Eternel a prise contre Edom, et les desseins qu'il a formés contre les habitants de Téman; si les plus petits du troupeau ne les traînent par terre, et si l'on ne réduit en désolation leurs cabanes sur eux.
21 At the noise of their fall, hath trembled the earth, At the outcry, in the Red Sea, was heard its noise.
La terre a été ébranlée du bruit de leur ruine; il y a eu un cri, le son en a été ouï en la mer Rouge.
22 Lo! as an eagle, he shall mount and dart, and spread his wings over Bozrah, —So shall the heart of the heroes of Edom, in that day, become as the heart of a woman in her pain.
Voici, il montera comme un aigle, et il volera, et étendra ses ailes sur Botsra; et le cœur des forts d'Edom en ce jour-là sera comme le cœur d'une femme qui est en travail.
23 Of Damascus. Turned pale have Hamath and Arpad, For, a calamitous report, have they heard—they tremble, —In the sea, is anxiety, it cannot, rest.
Quant à Damas; Hamath et Arpad ont été rendues honteuses, parce qu'elles ont appris des nouvelles très mauvaises, ils sont fondus, il y a une tourmente en la mer, elle ne se peut apaiser.
24 Enfeebled is Damascus She hath turned to flee But terror, hath seized her, —Anguish and pangs, have seized her as a woman in childbirth.
Damas est toute lâche, elle est mise en fuite, la peur l'a surprise, l'angoisse et les douleurs l'ont saisie comme d'une femme qui enfante.
25 Alas! is she not forsaken—The city so praised! The citadel I rejoiced in!
Comment n'a été réservée la ville renommée, ma ville de plaisance?
26 Therefore shall her young men fall in her broadways, —And, all her men of war, shall be silent in that day, Declareth Yahweh of hosts;
Car ses gens d'élite tomberont dans ses rues, et on fera perdre la parole à tous ses hommes de guerre en ce jour-là, dit l'Eternel des armées.
27 Then will I kindle a fire in the walls of Damascus, —And it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.
Et je mettrai le feu à la muraille de Damas, qui dévorera les palais de Ben-hadad.
28 Of Kedar. And of the kingdoms of Hazor Which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote—Thus, saith Yahweh, —Arise ye go up against Kedar, So shall they spoil the sons of the East:
Quant à Kédar, et aux Royaumes de Hatsor, lesquels Nébucanetsar Roi de Babylone frappera, ainsi a dit l'Eternel: levez-vous, montez vers Kédar, et détruisez les enfants d'Orient.
29 Their tents and their flocks, shall they take, And their curtains and all their baggage and their camels, shall they carry off for themselves, —And shall cry out unto them, Terror round about!
Ils enlèveront leurs tentes et leurs troupeaux, et prendront pour eux leurs tentes, et tout leur équipage, et leurs chameaux, et on criera: frayeur tout autour.
30 Flee remove far away, go deep to dwell, Ye inhabitants of Hazor, Urgeth Yahweh; For Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon—hath counseled against you, a counsel, And devised against you a device.
Fuyez, écartez-vous tant que vous pourrez, vous habitants de Hatsor, qui avez fait des creux pour y habiter, dit l'Eternel; car Nébucadnetsar Roi de Babylone a formé un dessein contre vous, il a pris une résolution contre vous.
31 Arise ye, go up against a nation at ease—dwelling securely, Commandeth Yahweh, —Having neither doors nor bars, Alone, do they dwell:
Levez-vous, montez vers la nation qui est en repos, qui habite en assurance, dit l'Eternel; qui n'ont ni portes, ni barres, et qui habitent seuls.
32 So shall their camels, become, a prey, And the throng of their cattle, a spoil, Then will I scatter them to every wind even the clipt-beards, —And from all sides of him, will I bring in their doom Declareth Yahweh.
Et leurs chameaux seront au pillage, et la multitude de leur bétail sera en proie; et je les disperserai à tout vent, vers ceux qui se coupent l'extrémité des cheveux, et je ferai venir de tous les côtés leur calamité, dit l'Eternel.
33 So shall Hazor become A habitation of jackals An astonishment unto times age-abiding: There shall not dwell there—a man, Nor sojourn therein—a son of the earth-born.
Et Hatsor deviendra un repaire de dragons, et un désert à toujours; il n'y demeurera personne, et aucun fils d'homme n'y séjournera.
34 So much of the word of Yahweh as came unto Jeremiah the prophet, Against Elam, —in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah saying: —
La parole de l'Eternel qui fut [adressée] à Jérémie le Prophète, contre Hélam, au commencement du règne de Sédécias Roi de Juda, en disant:
35 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Behold me! breaking the bow of Elam, —The beginning of their might;
Ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées: voici, je m'en vais rompre l'arc d'Hélam, qui est leur principale force.
36 Then will I bring in against Elam four winds from the four quarters of the heavens, And will scatter them to all these winds, —And there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam, shall not come;
Et je ferai venir contre Hélam les quatre vents, des quatre bouts des cieux; et je les disperserai par tous ces vents-là; et il n'y aura point de nation chez laquelle ne viennent ceux qui seront chassés d'Hélam.
37 And I will cause Elam to be dismayed Before their enemies Even before them who are seeking their life, So will I bring upon them calamity, Even the glow of mine anger Declareth Yahweh, —And will send after them the sword, until I have made an end of them;
Et je ferai que ceux d'Hélam seront épouvantés devant leurs ennemis, et devant ceux qui cherchent leur vie; et je ferai venir du mal sur eux, l'ardeur de ma colère, dit l'Eternel; et j'enverrai l'épée après eux, jusqu’à ce que je les aie consumés.
38 And I will set my throne in Elam, —And will destroy, from thence king and princes, Declareth Yahweh;
Et je mettrai mon trône en Hélam, et j'en détruirai les Rois et les principaux, dit l'Eternel.
39 But it shall come to pass In the afterpart of the days, That I will bring back the captivity of Elam, Declareth Yahweh.
Mais il arrivera qu'aux derniers jours je ferai retourner d'Hélam les captifs, dit l'Eternel.
