Jeremiah 49
1 Of the sons of Ammon-Thus saith Yahweh: Hath Israel no, sons? Hath he no, heir? Why hath, Malkam, taken possession of Gad, Or have, his people, in the cities thereof, made their dwelling?
Contre les enfants d’Ammon. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Israël n’a-t-il pas de fils, n’a-t-il pas d’héritier? Pourquoi Melchom a-t-il pris possession de Gad, et son peuple s’est-il installé dans ses villes?
2 Therefore, lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh When I will cause to be heard against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, an alarm of war, So shall she become a mound of desolation, And, her villages, with fire, shall blaze, —Then shall Israel, inherit them who inherited him, Saith Yahweh.
C’est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, — oracle de Yahweh, où je ferai retentir à Rabba des enfants d’Ammon le cri de guerre. Elle deviendra un monceau de ruines, et ses filles seront livrées au feu, et Israël héritera de ceux qui ont hérité de lui, — oracle de Yahweh.
3 Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled Make outcry, ye daughters of Rabbah, Gird you with sackcloth, Lament ye and run to and fro among the fences, —For, Malkam, into captivity, shall go, His priests and his princes, together.
Lamente-toi, Hésébon, car Haï a été saccagée; poussez des cris, filles de Rabbah, ceignez-vous de sacs, lamentez-vous; errez le long des clôtures; car Melchom s’en va en exil, et avec lui, ses prêtres et ses chefs.
4 Why shouldst thou glory in the vales, The flowing of thy vale O apostate daughter? She who is trusting in her treasures, [saying, ] Who shall invade, me?
Pourquoi te glorifier de tes vallées? — elle est riche, ta vallée! — fille rebelle, toi qui te confies dans tes trésors, disant: « Qui oserait venir contre moi? »
5 Behold me! bringing upon thee, terror Declareth My Lord, Yahweh of hosts, From all who are round about thee, —And ye shall be driven out every man before it, And there shall be none to bring home the wanderer;
Voici que j’amène contre toi la terreur, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh des armées, de tous les alentours; vous serez chassés, chacun droit devant soi, et personne ne ralliera les fuyards.
6 But afterwards, will I bring back the captivity of the sons of Ammon, Declareth Yahweh.
Mais après cela, je ramènerai les captifs des enfants d’Ammon, — oracle de Yahweh.
7 Of Edom—Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Hath counsel perished from the discerning? Is their wisdom corrupt?
Contre Édom. Ainsi parle Yahweh, des armées: N’y a-t-il plus de sagesse en Théman? Les avisés sont-ils à bout de conseils? Leur sagesse s’est-elle évanouie?
8 Flee ye turn go down deep to dwell, O inhabitant of Dedan, —For the doom of Esau, have I brought in upon him The time of his visitation.
Fuyez, retournez sur vos pas, blottissez-vous, habitants de Dédan car j’amènerai sur Ésaü la ruine, au temps où je le visite.
9 If, grape-gatherers, came to thee, Would they not leave, gleanings? If, thieves in the night, Would they not have taken away what sufficed them?
Si des vendangeurs viennent chez toi, ils ne laissent rien à grappiller; si ce sont des voleurs de nuit, ils pillent tout leur soûl.
10 But, I, have stripped Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, And to conceal himself, shall he not be able! Spoiled, are his seed, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.
Car c’est moi qui ai mis à nu Esaü, et découvert ses retraites, et il ne peut plus se cacher; sa race est ravagé, ses frères, ses voisins, — et il n’est plus.
11 Leave thy fatherless children I, will preserve them alive, —And thy widows, In me, let them trust.
Abandonne tes orphelins, c’est moi qui les ferai vivre, et que tes veuves se confient en moi!
12 For, thus saith Yahweh—Lo! they who had not been adjudged to drink the cup, shall surely drink, And art thou, the one to go unpunished? Thou shalt not go unpunished, but shalt surely drink.
Car ainsi parle Yahweh: Voici que ceux qui ne devaient pas boire cette coupe la boiront sûrement; et toi, tu en serais tenu quitte? Non, tu n’en seras pas tenu quitte, tu la boiras sûrement!
13 For by myself, have I sworn, Declareth Yahweh, That, Bozrah shall become, an astonishment: a reproach and a desolation, and a contempt, —And all her cities shall become age-abiding desolations.
Car je l’ai juré par moi-même, — oracle de Yahweh: Bosra sera un sujet d’étonnement et d’ opprobre, un lieu désert et maudit, et toutes ses villes seront des ruines à jamais.
14 A report, have I heard from Yahweh, Yea, an envoy, throughout the nations, hath been sent, —Gather yourselves together and come against her, And arise to the battle.
J’en ai appris de Yahweh la nouvelle, et un messager a été envoyé parmi les nations: « Rassemblez-vous et marchez contre lui! Levez-vous pour le combat! »
15 For lo! Small, have I made thee among the nations, —Despised among men!
Car voici que je t’ai rendu petit parmi les nations, méprisé parmi les hommes.
16 Thy monstrous thing, hath deceived thee, The insolence of thy heart, O thou that inhabitest the hidden recesses of the cliff, That holdest fast the height of the hill, —Though thou set high as an eagle, thy nest, From thence, will I bring thee down, Declareth Yahweh;
La terreur que tu inspirais t’a égaré, ainsi que la fierté de ton cœur, toi qui habites le creux des rochers, qui occupes le sommet de la colline. Mais quand tu élèverais ton aire comme l’aigle, de là je te ferai descendre, — oracle de Yahweh.
17 So shall, Edom, become an astonishment, —Every one passing by her, will be astonished and hiss, over all her plagues:
Édom sera un sujet d’ étonnement; tous les passants s’étonneront, et siffleront à la vue de toutes ses plaies.
18 Like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and her neighbours, Saith Yahweh, —There shall not dwell there—a man, Nor sojourn therein—any son of the earth-born.
Ce sera comme la catastrophe de Sodome, de Gomorrhe et des villes voisines, dit Yahweh; personne n’y habitera, aucun fils de l’homme n’y séjournera.
19 Lo! like a lion, will he come up from the majesty of the Jordan, unto the pasture perennial, But I will wink—I will make him run away therefrom, Who then shall be the Chosen One whom over it, I may set in charge? For who shall be like unto, me? And who shall appoint me, a time? And who is the Shepherd that shall stand before, me?
Pareil à un lion, voici qu’il monte des halliers du Jourdain au pâturage perpétuel; soudain j’en ferai fuir Édom, et j’y établirai celui que j’ai choisi. Car qui est semblable à moi? Qui me provoquerait, et quel est le berger qui me tiendrait tête?
20 Wherefore, hear ye The counsel of Yahweh which he hath counseled against Edom, And his devices which he hath devised against the inhabitants of Teman, —Surely the little ones of the flock shall drag them away, Surely he will cause their fold to be astounded over them.
Écoutez donc la résolution qu’a prise Yahweh contre Édom, et les desseins qu’il a médités contre les habitants de Théman: Oui, on les entraînera comme de faibles brebis; oui, leur pâturage en sera dans la stupeur.
21 At the noise of their fall, hath trembled the earth, At the outcry, in the Red Sea, was heard its noise.
Au bruit de leur chute, la terre tremble; le bruit de leur voix se fait entendre jusqu’à la mer Rouge.
22 Lo! as an eagle, he shall mount and dart, and spread his wings over Bozrah, —So shall the heart of the heroes of Edom, in that day, become as the heart of a woman in her pain.
Voici qu’il monte et prend son vol comme l’aigle, il étend ses ailes sur Bosra; et le cœur des guerriers d’Édom est en ce jour comme le cœur d’une femme en travail.
23 Of Damascus. Turned pale have Hamath and Arpad, For, a calamitous report, have they heard—they tremble, —In the sea, is anxiety, it cannot, rest.
Contre Damas. Hamath et Arphad sont dans la confusion, parce qu’elles ont reçu une mauvaise nouvelle; elles se fondent de peur; c’est la mer en tourmente, qui ne peut s’apaiser.
24 Enfeebled is Damascus She hath turned to flee But terror, hath seized her, —Anguish and pangs, have seized her as a woman in childbirth.
Damas est sans force, elle se tourne pour fuir, et l’effroi s’empare d’elle; l’angoisse et les douleurs la saisissent, comme une femme qui enfante.
25 Alas! is she not forsaken—The city so praised! The citadel I rejoiced in!
À quel point n’est-elle pas abandonnée, la ville glorieuse, la cité de délices, de joie!
26 Therefore shall her young men fall in her broadways, —And, all her men of war, shall be silent in that day, Declareth Yahweh of hosts;
Aussi ses jeunes gens tomberont sur ses places, ainsi que tous ses hommes de guerre; ils périront en ce jour-là, — oracle de Yahweh des armées.
27 Then will I kindle a fire in the walls of Damascus, —And it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.
J’allumerai un feu dans les murs de Damas, et il dévorera les palais de Ben-Hadad.
28 Of Kedar. And of the kingdoms of Hazor Which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote—Thus, saith Yahweh, —Arise ye go up against Kedar, So shall they spoil the sons of the East:
Contre Cédar et les royaumes de Hasor, que frappa Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone. Ainsi parle Yahweh: Debout! Marchez contre Cédar, exterminez les fils de l’Orient!
29 Their tents and their flocks, shall they take, And their curtains and all their baggage and their camels, shall they carry off for themselves, —And shall cry out unto them, Terror round about!
Qu’on prenne leurs tentes et leurs troupeaux! Qu’on leur enlève leurs tentures, tous leurs bagages et leurs chameaux! Et qu’on leur crie: Terreur de toutes parts!
30 Flee remove far away, go deep to dwell, Ye inhabitants of Hazor, Urgeth Yahweh; For Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon—hath counseled against you, a counsel, And devised against you a device.
Sauvez-vous, fuyez de toutes vos forces, blottissez-vous, habitants de Hasor! — oracle de Yahweh. Car Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, a formé contre vous un dessein, il a conçu un projet contre vous.
31 Arise ye, go up against a nation at ease—dwelling securely, Commandeth Yahweh, —Having neither doors nor bars, Alone, do they dwell:
Debout! Marchez contre un peuple tranquille, en assurance dans sa demeure, — oracle de Yahweh, qui n’a ni portes ni barres, qui vit à l’écart.
32 So shall their camels, become, a prey, And the throng of their cattle, a spoil, Then will I scatter them to every wind even the clipt-beards, —And from all sides of him, will I bring in their doom Declareth Yahweh.
Leurs chameaux seront votre butin, et la multitude de leurs troupeaux vos dépouilles. Je les disperserai à tous les vents, ces hommes aux tempes rasées, et de tous côtés je ferai venir sur leur ruine, — oracle de Yahweh.
33 So shall Hazor become A habitation of jackals An astonishment unto times age-abiding: There shall not dwell there—a man, Nor sojourn therein—a son of the earth-born.
Et Hasor deviendra un repaire de chacals, une solitude pour toujours; personne n’y demeurera, aucun fils d’homme n’y séjournera.
34 So much of the word of Yahweh as came unto Jeremiah the prophet, Against Elam, —in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah saying: —
La parole de Yahweh qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, pour Élam, au commencement du règne de Sédécias, roi de Juda, en ces termes:
35 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Behold me! breaking the bow of Elam, —The beginning of their might;
Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées: Voici que je vais briser l’arc d’Élam, principe de sa force.
36 Then will I bring in against Elam four winds from the four quarters of the heavens, And will scatter them to all these winds, —And there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam, shall not come;
Je ferai venir sur Élam quatre vents, des quatre coins du ciel, et je le disperserai à tous ces vents; et il n’y aura pas une nation où n’arrivent pas des fugitifs d’Élam.
37 And I will cause Elam to be dismayed Before their enemies Even before them who are seeking their life, So will I bring upon them calamity, Even the glow of mine anger Declareth Yahweh, —And will send after them the sword, until I have made an end of them;
Je ferai trembler Élam devant ses ennemis, et devant ceux qui en veulent à sa vie. Et j’amènerai sur eux des malheurs, le feu de mon ardente colère, — oracle de Yahweh. Et j’enverrai après eux l’épée, jusqu’à ce que je les aie anéantis.
38 And I will set my throne in Elam, —And will destroy, from thence king and princes, Declareth Yahweh;
Je placerai mon trône en Élam, et j’en exterminerai roi et chefs, — oracle de Yahweh.
39 But it shall come to pass In the afterpart of the days, That I will bring back the captivity of Elam, Declareth Yahweh.
Mais à la fin des jours, je ramènerai les captifs d’Élam, — oracle de Yahweh.
