Jeremiah 48
1 Of Moab, —Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, —Alas for Nebo, for it is laid waste, put to shame—captured, is Kiriathaim, put to shame is Misgab, and dismayed.
Quant à Moab; ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: malheur à Nébo, car elle a été saccagée! Kiriathajim a été rendue honteuse, et a été prise; la haute retraite a été rendue honteuse et effrayée.
2 No more, is the praise of Moab, In Heshbon, have they devised against her, calamity, Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation, —Even thou, Madmen also, shalt be silenced, After thee, shall march the sword.
Moab ne se glorifiera plus de Hesbon; car on a machiné du mal contre elle, [en disant]: venez, et exterminons-la, [et] qu'elle ne soit plus nation; toi aussi Madmen tu seras détruite, et l'épée te poursuivra.
3 A voice of outcry, from Horonaim, —Wasting and great destruction!
Il y a un bruit de crierie de devers Horonajim, pillage et une grande défaite.
4 Moab is broken: Her little ones, have caused to be heard an outcry.
Moab est brisé, on a fait ouïr le cri de ses petits enfants.
5 For the ascent of Luhith, with weeping, one ascendeth—with weeping, —For in the descent of Horonaim, the distress of the outcry of destruction, have they heard:
Pleurs sur pleurs monteront par la montée de Luhith, car on entendra dans la descente de Horonajim ceux qui crieront à cause des plaies que les ennemis leur auront faites.
6 Flee deliver your own lives, —Then shall the women be as a shrub in the desert.
Fuyez, [dira-t-on], sauvez vos vies; et vous serez comme de la bruyère dans un désert.
7 For seeing thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, Thou too, shalt be captured, —Then shall Chemosh go forth into captivity, His priests and his princes together.
Car parce que tu as eu confiance en tes ouvrages, et en tes trésors, tu seras prise, et Kémos sortira pour être transporté avec ses Sacrificateurs, et ses principaux.
8 And the spoiler shall enter into every city, And not, a city, shall escape, Then shall perish the vale Then be destroyed the table-land, —As Yahweh hath said.
Et celui qui fait le dégât entrera dans toutes les villes, et pas une ville n'échappera; la vallée périra, et le plat pays sera détruit, suivant ce que l'Eternel a dit;
9 Give wing to Moab, For she must, fly away; And her cities To desolation, shall be turned, With no inhabitant therein.
Donnez des ailes à Moab; car certainement il s'envolera, et ses villes seront réduites en désolation, sans qu'il y ait personne qui [y] habite.
10 Accursed be he that doeth the business of Yahweh carelessly; And, accursed be he that withholdeth his sword, from blood!
Maudit soit celui qui fera l'œuvre de l'Eternel frauduleusement, et maudit soit celui qui gardera son épée de répandre le sang!
11 Moab, hath been at ease from his youth, And settled is he upon his lees, And hath not been poured out from vessel to vessel, Nor into captivity, hath gone, —For this cause, hath his flavour stood still within him, And his scent is unchanged.
Moab a été à son aise depuis sa jeunesse; il a reposé sur sa lie; il n'a point été vidé de vaisseau en vaisseau, et n'a point été transporté, c'est pourquoi sa saveur lui est toujours demeurée, et son odeur ne s'est point changée;
12 Therefore, lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, When I will send to him tilters and they shall tilt him, —And his vessels, shall they empty, And their jars, shall they dash in pieces.
Mais voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, que je lui enverrai des gens qui l'enlèveront, qui videront ses vaisseaux, et qui mettront ses outres en pièces.
13 Then shall Moab, be ashamed, of, Chemosh, —Just as, the sons of Israel, were ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
Et Moab sera honteux à cause de Kémos, comme la maison d'Israël est devenue honteuse à cause de Béthel, qui était sa confiance.
14 How can ye say, Heroes, are we? and Men of might for the war?
Comment dites-vous: nous sommes forts et vaillants dans le combat?
15 Spoiled is Moab And her cities, hath he ascended, And the choice of his young men, have gone down to the slaughter, —Declareth The King, Yahweh of hosts, is his Name.
Moab va être saccagé, et chacune de ses villes s'en va en fumée, et l'élite de ses jeunes gens va descendre pour être égorgée, dit le Roi dont le Nom est l'Eternel des armées.
16 Near is the doom of Moab, to come, —And, his calamity, hasteth greatly.
La calamité de Moab est proche, et sa ruine s'avance à grands pas.
17 Lament ye for him—All that are round about him, and All that know his name, —Say, How is broken—The staff of strength! The rod of beauty!
Vous tous qui êtes autour de lui, soyez-en émus à compassion, et [vous] tous qui connaissez son nom, dites: comment a été rompue cette forte verge, et ce sceptre d'honneur?
18 Come down from glory, and sit in thirst, O inhabitress daughter of Dibon; For the spoiler of Moab, hath come up against thee, He hath laid in ruins thy strongholds.
Toi qui te tiens chez la fille de Dibon, descends de ta gloire, et t'assieds dans un lieu de sécheresse; car celui qui a saccagé Moab est monté contre toi, [et] a détruit tes forteresses.
19 Near the way, take thy stand and keep outlook, O inhabitress of Aroer: Ask—him that fleeth, and Her that hath escaped, Say, What hath happened?
Habitante d'Haroher, tiens-toi sur le chemin, et contemple; interroge celui qui s'enfuit, et celle qui est échappée, [et] dis: qu'est-il arrivé?
20 Confounded is Moab! For it is broken down! Howl and make outcry, —Tell ye in Arnon, That Moab is spoiled;
Moab est rendu honteux; car il a été mis en pièces; hurlez et criez, rapportez dans Arnon que Moab a été saccagé;
21 And, judgment, hath come Upon the country of the table-land, —Upon Holon, and Upon Jazer and Upon Mephaath;
Et que le jugement est venu sur le plat pays, sur Holon, et sur Jathsa, et sur Mephahat,
22 and Upon Dibon, and Upon Nebo, and Upon Beth-diblathaim;
Et sur Dibon, et sur Nebo, et sur Bethdiblathajim,
23 and Upon Kiriathaim, and Upon Beth-gamul, and Upon Beth-meon;
Et sur Kiriathajim, et sur Beth-gamul, et sur Beth-méhon,
24 and Upon Kerioth, and Upon Bozrah, —Yea, upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near.
Et sur Kérijoth, et sur Botsra, et sur toutes les villes du pays de Moab éloignées et proches.
25 Cut off is the horn of Moab, Yea, his arm, is broken, —Declareth Yahweh.
La force de Moab a été rompue, et son bras a été cassé, dit l'Eternel.
26 Make ye him drunken, Because against Yahweh, hath he magnified himself; So shall, Moab, stagger, into his own vomit, And shall become a derision, even he!
Enivrez-le, car il s'est élevé contre l'Eternel. Moab se vautrera dans le vin qu'il aura rendu et il deviendra aussi un sujet de moquerie.
27 And was it not, a derision, that Israel became to thee? And was it not among thieves, he was found? For, as often as thou didst speak of him, thou didst wag the head!
Car, [ô Moab!] Israël ne t'a-t-il pas été en dérision, [comme] un homme qui aurait été surpris entre les larrons? chaque fois que tu as parlé de lui, tu en as tressailli de joie.
28 Leave ye the cities and dwell in the cliff, Ye inhabitants of Moab; And become ye as a dove, that maketh her nest in the further-side of the fissure’s mouth.
Habitants de Moab quittez les villes, et demeurez dans les rochers, et soyez comme le pigeon qui fait son nid aux côtés de l'entrée des cavernes.
29 We have heard the arrogance of Moab—proud exceedingly: His loftiness and his arrogance and his majesty, and his elevation of heart!
Nous avons appris l'orgueil de Moab le très-superbe, son arrogance et son orgueil, et sa fierté, et son cœur altier.
30 I know—Declareth Yahweh His passion—that’tis Unjust! His boastings, that Untrue have they made [them]!
J'ai connu sa fureur, dit l'Eternel; mais il n'en sera pas ainsi; [j'ai connu] ceux sur lesquels il s'appuie; ils n'ont rien fait de droit.
31 For this cause over Moab, will I howl, And for all Moab, will I make outcry, —For the men of Kir-heres, must one moan!
Je hurlerai donc à cause de Moab, même je crierai à cause de Moab tout entier; on gémira sur ceux de Kir-hérès.
32 Beyond the weeping of Jazer, will I weep for thee O vine of Sibmah, Thy tendrils, have gone over the sea, Unto the sea of Jazer, have they reached, Upon thy summer fruits And upon thy vintage, the spoiler, hath fallen.
Ô vignoble de Sibmah je pleurerai sur toi du pleur de Jahzer; tes provins ont passé au delà de la mer, ils ont atteint jusqu’à la mer de Jahzer; celui qui fait le dégât s'est jeté sur tes fruits d'Eté, et sur ta vendange.
33 So shall be withdrawn gladness and exultation—From the fruitful field and From the land of Moab, —And wine from the vats, have I caused to fail, They shall not tread with shouting, The shouting shall be no shouting!
L'allégresse aussi, et la gaieté s'est retirée loin du champ fertile, et du pays de Moab, et j'ai fait cesser le vin des cuves; on n'y foulera plus en chantant, et la chanson de la vendange n'[y] sera plus chantée.
34 From the outcry of Heshbon, Even unto Elealeh Even unto Jahaz, have they given forth their voice, From Zoar even unto Horonaim, the third Eglath, —For, even the waters of Nimrim, to utter desolation, have been turned:
A cause du cri de Hesbon qui est parvenu jusqu’à Elhalé, ils ont jeté leurs cris jusqu’à Jahats; même depuis Tsohar jusqu'à Horonajim, [comme] une génisse de trois ans; car aussi les eaux de Nimrim seront réduites en désolation.
35 Then will I cause to cease, from Moab, Declareth Yahweh, —him that offereth at a high-place, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
Et je ferai qu'il n'y aura plus en Moab, dit l'Eternel, aucun qui offre sur les hauts lieux, ni aucun qui fasse des encensements à ses dieux.
36 For this cause, my heart, for Moab, like flutes, shall make plaintive sounds, Yea my heart for the men of Kir-heres! like flutes, shall make plaintive sounds, Because, the abundance he hath gotten is lost!
C'est pourquoi mon cœur mènera un bruit sur Moab comme des flûtes; mon cœur mènera un bruit comme des flûtes sur ceux de Kir-hérès, parce que toute l'abondance de ce qu'il a acquis est périe.
37 For, every head, is baldness, And every beard, clipped: Upon all hands, are gashes, And upon the loins, sackcloth
Car toute tête sera chauve, et toute barbe sera rasée; et il y aura des incisions sur toutes les mains, et le sac sera sur les reins.
38 Upon all the housetops of Moab And in her broadways, it is all lamentation, —For I have broken Moab—Like a vessel wherein is no pleasure Declareth Yahweh.
Il y aura des lamentations sur tous les toits de Moab, et dans ses places, parce que j'aurai brisé Moab comme un vaisseau auquel on ne prend nul plaisir, dit l'Eternel.
39 How it is broken down! They have howled, How hath Moab turned the back, for shame, —So shall Moab become a derision and a terror to all round about him.
Hurlez, [en disant]: comment a-t-il été mis en pièces? Comment Moab a-t-il tourné le dos tout honteux? car Moab sera un objet de moquerie et de frayeur à tous ceux qui sont autour de lui.
40 For, thus, saith Yahweh, Lo! as an eagle, shall one dart along, —And shall spread out his wings towards Moab.
Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel: voici il volera comme un aigle, et il étendra ses ailes sur Moab.
41 Captured is Kerioth, And the fortresses, are seized, —Then shall the heart of the heroes of Moab become in that day, As the heart of a woman in her pains.
Kérijoth a été prise, et on s'est saisi des forteresses, et le cœur des hommes forts de Moab sera en ce jour-là comme le cœur d'une femme qui est en travail.
42 Then shall, Moab, be destroyed from being a people, —Because against Yahweh, hath he magnified himself.
Et Moab sera exterminé, tellement qu'il ne sera plus peuple, parce qu'il s'est élevé contre l'Eternel.
43 Terror and pit and snare are upon thee O inhabitant of Moab Declareth Yahweh:
Habitant de Moab, la frayeur, la fosse, et le filet sont sur toi, dit l'Eternel.
44 He that fleeth from the face of the terror, Shall fall into the pit, And, he that getteth up out of the pit, Shall be captured by the snare, —For I will bring against her—against Moab, The year of their visitation, Declareth Yahweh.
Celui qui s'enfuira à cause de la frayeur, tombera dans la fosse; et celui qui remontera de la fosse, sera pris au filet; car je ferai venir sur lui, [c'est-à-savoir] sur Moab, l'année de leur punition, dit l'Eternel.
45 In the shadow of Heshbon, stand strengthless, the fugitives, —For, a fire, hath gone forth out of Heshbon And shall flame out of the midst of Sihon, And shall devour the beard of Moab, And the crown of the head of the proudly tumultuous.
Ils se sont arrêtés en l'ombre de Hesbon, voulant éviter la force; mais le feu est sorti de Hesbon, et la flamme du milieu de Sihon, qui dévorera un canton de Moab, et le sommet de la tête des gens bruyants.
46 Woe to thee Moab! Lost are the people of Chemosh, —For thy sons have been taken, into captivity, And thy daughters into captivity.
Malheur à toi, Moab! le peuple de Kémos est perdu; car tes fils ont été enlevés pour être emmenés captifs, et tes filles pour être emmenées captives.
47 Yet will I bring back the captivity of Moab, In the afterpart of the days, Declareth Yahweh, Thus far, is the sentence of Moab.
Toutefois je ramènerai et mettrai en repos les captifs de Moab, aux derniers jours, dit l'Eternel. Jusqu'ici est le jugement de Moab.
