Jeremiah 48
1 Of Moab, —Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, —Alas for Nebo, for it is laid waste, put to shame—captured, is Kiriathaim, put to shame is Misgab, and dismayed.
Sur Moab. Ainsi dit l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Malheur à Nebo! car elle est dévastée. Kiriathaïm est honteuse, elle est prise. Misgab est honteuse et terrifiée.
2 No more, is the praise of Moab, In Heshbon, have they devised against her, calamity, Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation, —Even thou, Madmen also, shalt be silenced, After thee, shall march the sword.
C’en est fait de la louange de Moab. À Hesbon, ils ont machiné contre lui du mal: Venez, et retranchons-le, qu’il ne soit plus une nation! Toi aussi, Madmen, tu seras détruite; l’épée ira après toi.
3 A voice of outcry, from Horonaim, —Wasting and great destruction!
La voix d’un cri [qui vient] de Horonaïm! Dévastation et grande ruine!
4 Moab is broken: Her little ones, have caused to be heard an outcry.
Moab est ruiné, ses petits enfants ont fait entendre un cri; …
5 For the ascent of Luhith, with weeping, one ascendeth—with weeping, —For in the descent of Horonaim, the distress of the outcry of destruction, have they heard:
car de la montée de Lukhith montent pleurs sur pleurs; car à la descente de Horonaïm on a entendu un cri d’angoisse de ruine.
6 Flee deliver your own lives, —Then shall the women be as a shrub in the desert.
Fuyez, sauvez vos vies; et vous serez comme la bruyère dans le désert!
7 For seeing thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, Thou too, shalt be captured, —Then shall Chemosh go forth into captivity, His priests and his princes together.
Car, parce que tu as eu confiance en tes ouvrages et en tes trésors, toi aussi tu seras pris; et Kemosh s’en ira en captivité, ses sacrificateurs et ses princes ensemble.
8 And the spoiler shall enter into every city, And not, a city, shall escape, Then shall perish the vale Then be destroyed the table-land, —As Yahweh hath said.
Et le dévastateur viendra contre chaque ville, et pas une ville n’échappera; et la vallée périra, et le plateau sera dévasté, comme l’Éternel l’a dit.
9 Give wing to Moab, For she must, fly away; And her cities To desolation, shall be turned, With no inhabitant therein.
Donnez des ailes à Moab! car il partira au vol, et ses villes seront désolées, sans qu’il y ait personne qui y habite.
10 Accursed be he that doeth the business of Yahweh carelessly; And, accursed be he that withholdeth his sword, from blood!
Maudit celui qui fera l’œuvre de l’Éternel frauduleusement! Maudit celui qui retiendra son épée loin du sang!
11 Moab, hath been at ease from his youth, And settled is he upon his lees, And hath not been poured out from vessel to vessel, Nor into captivity, hath gone, —For this cause, hath his flavour stood still within him, And his scent is unchanged.
Moab a été à son aise dès sa jeunesse, et tranquille sur sa lie; il n’a pas été versé de vase en vase, et il n’est pas allé en captivité: c’est pourquoi son goût lui est demeuré, et son parfum ne s’est point changé.
12 Therefore, lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, When I will send to him tilters and they shall tilt him, —And his vessels, shall they empty, And their jars, shall they dash in pieces.
C’est pourquoi, voici, des jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, où je lui enverrai des transvaseurs qui le transvaseront, et qui videront ses vases, et qui briseront ses cruches.
13 Then shall Moab, be ashamed, of, Chemosh, —Just as, the sons of Israel, were ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
Et Moab sera honteux de Kemosh, comme la maison d’Israël a été honteuse de Béthel, sa confiance.
14 How can ye say, Heroes, are we? and Men of might for the war?
Comment dites-vous: Nous sommes des hommes forts, des hommes vaillants pour la guerre?
15 Spoiled is Moab And her cities, hath he ascended, And the choice of his young men, have gone down to the slaughter, —Declareth The King, Yahweh of hosts, is his Name.
Moab est dévasté, et ses villes montent [en fumée], et l’élite de ses jeunes gens descend à la tuerie, dit le Roi; l’Éternel des armées est son nom.
16 Near is the doom of Moab, to come, —And, his calamity, hasteth greatly.
La calamité de Moab est près d’arriver, et son malheur se hâte beaucoup.
17 Lament ye for him—All that are round about him, and All that know his name, —Say, How is broken—The staff of strength! The rod of beauty!
Lamentez-vous sur lui, vous tous qui êtes autour de lui; et vous tous qui connaissez son nom, dites: Comment a été brisée la verge de force, le bâton de magnificence!
18 Come down from glory, and sit in thirst, O inhabitress daughter of Dibon; For the spoiler of Moab, hath come up against thee, He hath laid in ruins thy strongholds.
Descends de la gloire, et assieds-toi dans la soif, habitante, fille de Dibon! car le dévastateur de Moab est monté contre toi, il a détruit tes forteresses.
19 Near the way, take thy stand and keep outlook, O inhabitress of Aroer: Ask—him that fleeth, and Her that hath escaped, Say, What hath happened?
Tiens-toi sur le chemin, et veille, habitante d’Aroër; interroge celui qui fuit et celle qui est échappée; dis: Qu’est-il arrivé?
20 Confounded is Moab! For it is broken down! Howl and make outcry, —Tell ye in Arnon, That Moab is spoiled;
Moab est honteux, car il est brisé. Hurlez et criez, annoncez dans Arnon que Moab est dévasté.
21 And, judgment, hath come Upon the country of the table-land, —Upon Holon, and Upon Jazer and Upon Mephaath;
Et le jugement est venu sur le pays du plateau, sur Holon, et sur Jahtsa, et sur Méphaath,
22 and Upon Dibon, and Upon Nebo, and Upon Beth-diblathaim;
et sur Dibon, et sur Nebo, et sur Beth-Diblathaïm,
23 and Upon Kiriathaim, and Upon Beth-gamul, and Upon Beth-meon;
et sur Kiriathaïm, et sur Beth-Gamul, et sur Beth-Méon,
24 and Upon Kerioth, and Upon Bozrah, —Yea, upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near.
et sur Kerijoth, et sur Botsra, et sur toutes les villes du pays de Moab, éloignées et proches.
25 Cut off is the horn of Moab, Yea, his arm, is broken, —Declareth Yahweh.
La corne de Moab est coupée, et son bras est cassé, dit l’Éternel.
26 Make ye him drunken, Because against Yahweh, hath he magnified himself; So shall, Moab, stagger, into his own vomit, And shall become a derision, even he!
Enivrez-le, car il s’est exalté contre l’Éternel; et Moab se roulera dans son vomissement, et il sera, lui aussi, un objet de dérision.
27 And was it not, a derision, that Israel became to thee? And was it not among thieves, he was found? For, as often as thou didst speak of him, thou didst wag the head!
Et Israël n’a-t-il pas été un objet de dérision pour toi? A-t-il été pris parmi les voleurs? Car chaque fois que tu as parlé de lui, tu as secoué [la tête].
28 Leave ye the cities and dwell in the cliff, Ye inhabitants of Moab; And become ye as a dove, that maketh her nest in the further-side of the fissure’s mouth.
Abandonnez les villes, et demeurez dans les rochers, habitants de Moab, et soyez comme une colombe qui fait son nid aux côtés de l’entrée d’une caverne.
29 We have heard the arrogance of Moab—proud exceedingly: His loftiness and his arrogance and his majesty, and his elevation of heart!
Nous avons entendu l’orgueil de Moab, le très hautain, son arrogance, et son orgueil, et sa fierté, et son cœur altier!
30 I know—Declareth Yahweh His passion—that’tis Unjust! His boastings, that Untrue have they made [them]!
Je connais, dit l’Éternel, sa rage: ses vanteries ne sont que vanité, ils ne font pas ce [qu’ils disent].
31 For this cause over Moab, will I howl, And for all Moab, will I make outcry, —For the men of Kir-heres, must one moan!
C’est pourquoi je hurlerai sur Moab; au sujet de tout Moab je crierai; on gémira sur les hommes de Kir-Hérès.
32 Beyond the weeping of Jazer, will I weep for thee O vine of Sibmah, Thy tendrils, have gone over the sea, Unto the sea of Jazer, have they reached, Upon thy summer fruits And upon thy vintage, the spoiler, hath fallen.
Plus que des pleurs de Jahzer, je pleurerai sur toi, ô vigne de Sibma; tes sarments ont passé au-delà de la mer, ils ont atteint jusqu’à la mer de Jahzer; le dévastateur est tombé sur tes fruits d’été et sur ta vendange.
33 So shall be withdrawn gladness and exultation—From the fruitful field and From the land of Moab, —And wine from the vats, have I caused to fail, They shall not tread with shouting, The shouting shall be no shouting!
Et la joie et l’allégresse ont disparu des champs fertiles, et du pays de Moab, et j’ai fait cesser le vin des cuves: on ne foulera plus avec des cris de joie, le cri de joie ne sera plus un cri de joie.
34 From the outcry of Heshbon, Even unto Elealeh Even unto Jahaz, have they given forth their voice, From Zoar even unto Horonaim, the third Eglath, —For, even the waters of Nimrim, to utter desolation, have been turned:
À cause du cri de Hesbon, ils ont fait retentir leurs voix jusqu’à Elhalé, jusqu’à Jahats, de Tsoar jusqu’à Horonaïm, [jusqu’à] Églath-Shelishija; car aussi les eaux de Nimrim sont devenues des désolations.
35 Then will I cause to cease, from Moab, Declareth Yahweh, —him that offereth at a high-place, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
Et je ferai cesser en Moab, dit l’Éternel, celui qui offre sur le haut lieu et qui brûle de l’encens à ses dieux.
36 For this cause, my heart, for Moab, like flutes, shall make plaintive sounds, Yea my heart for the men of Kir-heres! like flutes, shall make plaintive sounds, Because, the abundance he hath gotten is lost!
C’est pourquoi mon cœur bruira sur Moab comme des flûtes, et mon cœur bruira comme des flûtes sur les hommes de Kir-Hérès, parce que les biens qu’ils avaient acquis ont péri.
37 For, every head, is baldness, And every beard, clipped: Upon all hands, are gashes, And upon the loins, sackcloth
Car toute tête sera chauve, et toute barbe sera coupée; sur toutes les mains il y aura des incisions, et le sac sera sur les reins;
38 Upon all the housetops of Moab And in her broadways, it is all lamentation, —For I have broken Moab—Like a vessel wherein is no pleasure Declareth Yahweh.
sur tous les toits de Moab et dans ses places, tout est lamentation, car j’ai brisé Moab comme un vase auquel on ne prend pas plaisir, dit l’Éternel.
39 How it is broken down! They have howled, How hath Moab turned the back, for shame, —So shall Moab become a derision and a terror to all round about him.
Ils hurleront: Comment a-t-il été brisé! Comment Moab a-t-il tourné le dos, [tout] honteux! Et Moab sera un objet de dérision et d’effroi à tous ceux qui l’entourent.
40 For, thus, saith Yahweh, Lo! as an eagle, shall one dart along, —And shall spread out his wings towards Moab.
Car ainsi dit l’Éternel: Voici, il volera comme un aigle, et il étendra ses ailes sur Moab.
41 Captured is Kerioth, And the fortresses, are seized, —Then shall the heart of the heroes of Moab become in that day, As the heart of a woman in her pains.
Kerijoth est prise et on s’est emparé des lieux forts; et le cœur des hommes forts de Moab sera en ce jour-là comme le cœur d’une femme en travail.
42 Then shall, Moab, be destroyed from being a people, —Because against Yahweh, hath he magnified himself.
Et Moab sera détruit de manière à n’être plus un peuple, car il s’est exalté contre l’Éternel.
43 Terror and pit and snare are upon thee O inhabitant of Moab Declareth Yahweh:
La frayeur, et la fosse, et le piège sont sur toi, habitant de Moab! dit l’Éternel.
44 He that fleeth from the face of the terror, Shall fall into the pit, And, he that getteth up out of the pit, Shall be captured by the snare, —For I will bring against her—against Moab, The year of their visitation, Declareth Yahweh.
Celui qui s’ enfuit à cause de la frayeur tombera dans la fosse; et celui qui monte de la fosse sera pris dans le piège; car je ferai venir sur lui, sur Moab, l’année de leur visitation, dit l’Éternel.
45 In the shadow of Heshbon, stand strengthless, the fugitives, —For, a fire, hath gone forth out of Heshbon And shall flame out of the midst of Sihon, And shall devour the beard of Moab, And the crown of the head of the proudly tumultuous.
À l’ombre de Hesbon se sont tenus ceux qui fuyaient devant la force; car un feu est sorti de Hesbon, et une flamme du milieu de Sihon, et elle a dévoré le coin de Moab et le sommet de la tête des fils du tumulte.
46 Woe to thee Moab! Lost are the people of Chemosh, —For thy sons have been taken, into captivity, And thy daughters into captivity.
Malheur à toi, Moab! le peuple de Kemosh est perdu; car tes fils ont été pris captifs, et tes filles, captives.
47 Yet will I bring back the captivity of Moab, In the afterpart of the days, Declareth Yahweh, Thus far, is the sentence of Moab.
Et je rétablirai les captifs de Moab à la fin des jours, dit l’Éternel. Jusqu’ici est le jugement de Moab.
