< Jeremiah 40 >

1 The thing that happened unto Jeremiah, from Yahweh, after Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners had let him go from Ramah, —when he had taken him, he having been bound in fetters in the midst of all the captive-host of Jerusalem, and Judah, who were being carried away captive to Babylon.
Ọ̀rọ̀ náà sì tọ Jeremiah wá láti ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa lẹ́yìn tí Nebusaradani balógun àwọn ẹ̀ṣọ́ ti tú u sílẹ̀ ní Rama. Ó rí Jeremiah tí a fi ẹ̀wọ̀n dè láàrín gbogbo àwọn tí wọ́n mú ní Jerusalẹmu àti Juda. Wọ́n kó lọ sí ilẹ̀ àjèjì Babeli.
2 So then the, chief of the royal executioners took Jeremiah, —and said unto him, Yahweh thy God had threatened this calamity against this place;
Nígbà tí balógun ẹ̀ṣọ́ rí Jeremiah, ó sọ fún un wí pé, “Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ ni ó pàṣẹ ibí yìí fún mi.
3 and so Yahweh hath brought it about and done it just as he threatened, —for ye have sinned against Yahweh, and have not hearkened unto his voice, and so this thing hath befallen you.
Nísinsin yìí, Olúwa ti mú un jáde; ó ti ṣe gẹ́gẹ́ bí ó ti sọ pé òun yóò ṣe. Gbogbo èyí ṣẹlẹ̀ nítorí wí pé ẹ̀yin ènìyàn ṣẹ̀ sí Olúwa, àti pé ẹ kò gbọ́rọ̀ sí àṣẹ rẹ̀.
4 Now, therefore, lo! I have loosed thee today, from the fetters which were upon thy hand: If it be good in thine eyes to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will set mine eyes upon thee, but if evil in thine eyes to come with me into Babylon, forbear, —see! all the land, is before thee, whither it may be good and right in thine eyes to go, thither, go!
Ṣùgbọ́n, ní òní yìí mò ń tú ọ sílẹ̀ kúrò nínú ẹ̀wọ̀n tí ó wà ní ọwọ́ rẹ. Bí o bá fẹ́, tẹ̀lé mi ká lọ sí Babeli, èmi yóò sì bojútó ọ; ṣùgbọ́n bí ìwọ kò bá fẹ́, dúró síbí. Wò ó, gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè wà níwájú rẹ, lọ sí ibikíbi tí ó bá tẹ́ ọ lọ́rùn.”
5 And ere yet he could make reply—Go thou back then unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath set in charge over the cities of Judah, and dwell thou with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it may be right in thine eyes to go, go! So the chief of the royal executioners gave him an allowance and a present and let him go.
Ẹ̀wẹ̀, kí ó tó di pé Jeremiah pẹ̀yìndà láti máa lọ, Nebusaradani fi kún un wí pé, “Padà tọ Gedaliah ọmọ Ahikamu lọ, ọmọ Ṣafani, ẹni tí ọba Babeli ti fi jẹ baálẹ̀ lórí ìlú Juda, kí o sì máa gbé ní àárín àwọn ènìyàn wọ̀nyí tàbí kí o máa lọ ibikíbi tí ó bá tọ́ ní ojú rẹ.” Nígbà náà ni balógun náà fún un ní oúnjẹ àti ẹ̀bùn, ó sì jẹ́ kí ó lọ.
6 Then came Jeremiah unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and dwelt with him in the midst of the people who were left in the land.
Báyìí ni Jeremiah lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ Gedaliah ọmọkùnrin Ahikamu ní Mispa, ó sì dúró tì í láàrín àwọn ènìyàn tí ó ṣẹ́kù ní ilẹ̀ náà.
7 Now, when all the captains of the forces which were in the field—they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had set Gedaliah son of Ahikam in charge over the land, —and that he had committed to him men and women and children, and the poor of the land of those who had not been carried away captive to Babylon,
Nígbà tí gbogbo àwọn olórí ogun àti àwọn ènìyàn tí wọ́n kù lórí orílẹ̀-èdè náà gbọ́ pé ọba Babeli ti yan Gedaliah ọmọkùnrin Ahikamu gẹ́gẹ́ bí baálẹ̀ ní ilẹ̀ náà; àti pé ó ti fi àwọn ọkùnrin, obìnrin àti ọmọdé tí wọ́n jẹ́ tálákà ní ilẹ̀ náà tí wọn kò kó lọ sí ilẹ̀ àjèjì sí ìkáwọ́ rẹ̀,
8 then came they in unto Gedaliah in Mizpah, —both Ishmael son of Nethaniah and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.
wọ́n wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ Gedaliah ní Mispa; Iṣmaeli ọmọkùnrin Netaniah, Johanani àti Jonatani ọmọkùnrin ti Karea, Seraiah ọmọkùnrin Tanhumeti tí í ṣe ọmọkùnrin Efai ará Netofa àti Jesaniah ọmọkùnrin Maakati àti àwọn ènìyàn wọn.
9 Then Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan sware unto them, and to their men saying, Do not be afraid of serving the Chaldeans, —dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon that it may be well with you.
Gedaliah ọmọkùnrin Ahikamu, ọmọkùnrin ti Ṣafani ṣe ìbúra láti tún fi dá àwọn ènìyàn lójú pé, “Ẹ má ṣe bẹ̀rù láti sin àwọn Babeli.” Ó sọ wí pé, “Gbé ilẹ̀ náà kí ẹ sì máa sin ọba Babeli, yóò sì dára fún un yín.
10 But as for me, behold me! remaining in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who may come unto us, Ye, however, gather ye wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities which ye have seized.
Èmi fúnra mi yóò dúró ní Mispa láti ṣojú yín níwájú Babeli tí wọ́n tọ̀ wá wá. Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ̀yin ni yóò máa kórè ọtí wáìnì, èso igi àti òróró; kí ẹ sì kó wọn sí inú àpò àpamọ́wọ́ yín; kí ẹ̀yin sì máa gbé ní ìlú tí ẹ ti gbà.”
11 Likewise also, all the Jews, who were in Moab and among the sons of Ammon and in Edom and who were in any of the lands, when they heard that the king of Babylon had granted a remnant to Judah, and that he had set in charge over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan,
Nígbà tí gbogbo àwọn Juda ní Moabu, Ammoni, Edomu àti gbogbo àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè gbọ́ pé ọba Babeli ti fi ohun tókù sílẹ̀ ní Juda, àti pé ó ti yan Gedaliah ọmọkùnrin Ahikamu ọmọkùnrin Ṣafani gẹ́gẹ́ bí gómìnà lórí wọn.
12 yea, then returned all the Jews out of all the places whither they had been driven, and came into the land of Judah unto Gedaliah, in Mizpah, —and gathered wine and summer fruits in great abundance.
Gbogbo wọn padà wá sí ilẹ̀ Juda sọ́dọ̀ Gedaliah ní Mispa láti orílẹ̀-èdè gbogbo tí a ti lé wọn sí. Wọ́n sì kórè ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ọtí wáìnì àti èso igi.
13 But, Johanan son of Kareah, and all the princes of the forces which were in the field, came unto Gedaliah in Mizpah,
Johanani ọmọkùnrin ti Karea àti gbogbo àwọn olórí ogun tí ó kù ní orílẹ̀-èdè sì tọ Gedaliah wá ní Mispa.
14 and said unto him—Dost thou at all know, that, Baalis, king of the sons of Ammon, hath sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah, to smite thee to death? But Gedaliah son of Ahikam, believed them not.
Wọ́n sì sọ fún un wí pé, “Ǹjẹ́ ìwọ ha mọ̀ pé Baalisi ọba àwọn Ammoni ti rán Iṣmaeli ọmọkùnrin Netaniah láti lọ mú ẹ̀mí rẹ?” Ṣùgbọ́n Gedaliah ọmọkùnrin ti Ahikamu kò gbà wọ́n gbọ́.
15 Then, Johanan son of Kareah, spake unto Gedaliah secretly, in Mizpah, saying, —Let me go I pray thee, and smite Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and not, a man, shall know it, —wherefore should he smite thee to death, and all Judah who have gathered themselves unto thee, be dispersed, and the remnant of Judah perish?
Nígbà náà ni Johanani ọmọkùnrin Karea sọ ní ìkọ̀kọ̀ fún Gedaliah ní Mispa pé, “Jẹ́ kí èmi lọ pa Iṣmaeli ọmọkùnrin Netaniah, ẹnikẹ́ni kò sì ní mọ èyí. Kí ni ìdí rẹ̀ tí yóò ṣe mú ẹ̀mí rẹ, tí o sì ṣe fẹ́ mú àwọn Júù tí ó yí ọ ká túká, kí ìyókù Juda sì parun?”
16 Then said Gedaliah son of Ahikam unto Johanan son of Kareah, Thou mayest not do this thing, —for, falsely, art thou speaking against Ishmael.
Ṣùgbọ́n Gedaliah ọmọ Ahikamu sọ fún Johanani ọmọ Karea pé, “Má ṣe ṣe nǹkan yìí! Nítorí nǹkan tí ò ń sọ nípa Iṣmaeli kì í ṣe òtítọ́.”
