Jeremiah 24

1 Yahweh shewed me, and lo! two baskets of figs, which had been set before the temple of Yahweh, —after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive, Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and the princes of Judah and the carpenters and the smiths out of Jerusalem, and had brought them into Babylon: —

Fez-me o Senhor ver, e eis aqui dois cestos de figos, postos diante do templo do Senhor, depois que Nabucodonosor, rei de Babylonia, levou em captiveiro a Jechonias, filho de Joaquim, rei de Judah, e os principes de Judah, e os carpinteiros, e os ferreiros de Jerusalem, e os trouxe a Babylonia.

2 the one basket, was of very good figs, like the first-ripe figs; and, the other basket, was of very bad figs, which could not be eaten for badness.

Um cesto tinha figos muito bons, como os figos temporãos; porém o outro cesto tinha figos muito maus, que não se podiam comer, de maus que eram.

3 Then said Yahweh unto me, —What canst thou see, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs: the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, which cannot be eaten, for badness.

E disse-me o Senhor: Que vês tu, Jeremias? E eu disse: Figos: os figos bons, muito bons, e os maus, muito maus, que não se podem comer, de maus que são.

4 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me, saying:

Então veiu a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

5 Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Like these good figs, so, will I regard them of Judah who are carried into captivity, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.

Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: Como a estes bons figos, assim tambem conhecerei aos de Judah, levados em captiveiro; os quaes enviei d'este logar para a terra dos chaldeos, para o seu bem.

6 Therefore will I set mine eye upon them for good, and will bring them back upon this land, —and will build them up, and not pull them down, and will plant them and not root them up;

Porei os meus olhos sobre elles, para o seu bem, e os voltarei a esta terra, e edifical-os-hei, e não os destruirei; e plantal-os-hei, e não os arrancarei.

7 and will give them a heart to know, me, that, I, am Yahweh, So shall they become my people, And, I, will become their God; for they will return unto me with all their heart.

E dar-lhes-hei coração para que me conheçam, porque eu sou o Senhor; e ser-me-hão por povo, e eu lhes serei por Deus; porque se converterão a mim de todo o seu coração.

8 And like the bad figs, which cannot be eaten for badness, Surely thus, saith Yahweh—so, will I deliver up Zedekiah king of Judah, and his princes and the remnant of Jerusalem that remain in this land, and them who are dwelling in the land of Egypt;

E como os figos maus, que se não podem comer, de maus que são (porque assim diz o Senhor), assim usarei com Zedekias, rei de Judah, e com os seus principes, e com o resto de Jerusalem, que ficou de resto n'esta terra, e com os que habitam na terra do Egypto.

9 yea I will deliver them up, as a terror of calamity, to all the kingdoms of the earth, —as a reproach and as a byword, as a mockery and as a contempt, in every place whither I will drive them;

E entregal-os-hei para que sejam um terror, para mal a todos os reinos da terra, para o opprobrio e por proverbio, e para escarneo, e por maldição em todos os logares para onde os arrojei.

10 and I will send among them, sword famine and pestilence, —until they are consumed from off the soil which I gave to them and to their fathers.

E enviarei entre elles a espada, a fome, e a peste, até que se consumam de sobre a terra que lhes dei a elles e a seus paes.
