Jeremiah 13
1 Thus, said Yahweh unto me, —Go and buy for thyself a linen girdle, and put upon thy loins, —but in water, shalt thou not place it.
Assim me disse o Senhor: vai, e compra um cinto de linho, e põe-no sobre os teus lombos, porém não o metas na água.
2 So I bought a girdle according to the word of Yahweh, —and put upon my loins.
E comprei o cinto, conforme a palavra do Senhor, e o pus sobre os meus lombos.
3 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me second time saying:
Então veio a palavra do Senhor a mim segunda vez, dizendo:
4 Take the girdle which thou hast bought which is upon thy loins, —and arise go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the cliff.
Toma o cinto que compraste, e trazes sobre os teus lombos, e levanta-te; vai ao Euphrates, e esconde-o ali na fenda de uma rocha.
5 So I went, and hid it, by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me.
E fui, e escondi-o junto ao Euphrates, como o Senhor mo havia ordenado.
6 And it came to pass, at the end of many days, —that Yahweh said unto me, —Arise go to the Euphrates, and take from thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.
Sucedeu pois, ao cabo de muitos dias, que me disse o Senhor: Levanta-te, vai ao Euphrates, e toma dali o cinto que te ordenei que o escondesses ali.
7 So I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hidden it, —and lo! the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing,
E fui ao Euphrates, e cavei, e tomei o cinto do lugar onde o havia escondido: e eis que o cinto tinha apodrecido, e para nada prestava.
8 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:
Então veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:
9 Thus, saith Yahweh, —After this manner, will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
Assim diz o Senhor: Assim farei apodrecer a soberba de Judá, como também a muita soberba de Jerusalém.
10 This wicked people who are refusing to hear my words, who are walking in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods, to serve them and to bow down to them, yea let them be like this girdle, which is good for nothing.
Este mesmo povo maligno, que recusa ouvir as minhas palavras, que caminha segundo o propósito do seu coração, e anda após deuses alheios, para servi-los, e inclinar-se diante deles, será tal como este cinto, que para nada presta.
11 For as a girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, so caused I to cleave unto me—the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah Declareth Yahweh, to become mine—For a people, and For a name, and For a praise and For an adorning, —but they hearkened not.
Porque, como o cinto está pegado aos lombos do homem, assim eu fiz pegar a mim toda a casa de Israel, e toda a casa de Judá, diz o Senhor, para me serem por povo, e por nome, e por louvor, e por glória: porém não deram ouvidos.
12 Therefore shalt thou say unto them this word—Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Every jar, is to be filled with wine; and they will say unto thee, Do we not, know well, that every jar, is to be filled with wine?
Pelo que dize-lhes esta palavra: Assim diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Todo o odre se encherá de vinho: e dir-te-ão: Porventura não sabemos mui bem que todo o odre se encherá de vinho?
13 Then shalt thou say unto them—Thus, saith Yahweh—Behold me! filling all the inhabitants of this land Even the kings that are sitting for David upon his throne and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness;
Porém tu dize-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que eu encherei de embriaguez a todos os habitantes desta terra, e aos reis da estirpe de David, que estão assentados sobre o seu trono, e aos sacerdotes, e aos profetas, e a todos os habitantes de Jerusalém.
14 and I will dash them every man against his brother even the fathers and the sons together, Declareth Yahweh, —I will not pity, Neither will I spare, Neither will I have compassion, that I should not destroy them.
E fa-los-ei em pedaços um contra outro, e juntamente os pais com os filhos, diz o Senhor: não perdoarei nem pouparei, nem me apiedarei, para que os não destrua.
15 Hear ye and give ear, be not haughty, —For Yahweh, hath spoken.
Escutai, e inclinai os ouvidos: não vos ensoberbeçais; porque o Senhor disse.
16 Give ye to Yahweh your God—glory, Before he cause darkness, and Before your feet stumble upon the twilight mountains; Lest, when ye wait for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, And change it for thick darkness.
Dai glória ao Senhor vosso Deus, antes que se faça vir a escuridão e antes que tropecem vossos pés nos montes tenebrosos; e espereis a luz e ele a mude em sombra de morte, e a reduza a escuridão.
17 But if ye will not hear it, In secret places, shall my soul weep Because of the pride, And mine eye, shall flow over, and run down with tears, Because captive hath been taken the flock of Yahweh.
E, se isto não ouvirdes, a minha alma chorará em lugares ocultos, por causa da vossa soberba; e amargosamente lagrimejará o meu olho, e se desfará em lágrimas, porquanto o rebanho do Senhor foi levado cativo.
18 Say thou to the king and to the queen-mother, Abase yourselves—Sit down, —For descended have your Head-tires, your Crown of adornment.
Dize ao rei e à rainha: humilhai-vos, e assentai-vos no chão; porque já caiu todo o ornato de vossas cabeças, a coroa de vossa glória.
19 The cities of the South, are shut And there is none to open, —Judah hath been carried away captive, She hath altogether been carried away captive in full number.
As cidades do sul estão fechadas, e ninguém há que as abra: todo o Judá foi levado cativo, todo inteiramente foi levado cativo.
20 Lift up your eyes and see Them who are coming in from the North, —Where is The flock that was given thee, Thy beautiful flock?
Levantai os vossos olhos, e vede os que veem do norte: onde está o rebanho que se te deu, e as ovelhas da tua glória?
21 What wilt thou say when he shall bring punishment upon thee, Since, thou thyself, hast accustomed them to be over thee as friends in chief? Shall not, pangs, seize thee, as of a woman in childbirth?
Que dirás, quando vier a fazer visitação sobre ti, pois tu já os ensinaste a serem príncipes, e cabeça sobre ti? porventura não te tomarão as dores, como à mulher que está de parto?
22 But if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore have these things befallen me? For the greatness of thine iniquity have Thy skirts been turned aside Thy heels suffered violence!
Quando pois disseres no teu coração: Porque me sobrevieram estas coisas? Pela multidão das tuas maldades se descobriram as tuas fraldas, e tem-se feito violência aos teus calcanhares.
23 Can the Ethiopian change, his skin, Or the leopard his spots? Even, ye, may be able to do right, Who are accustomed to do wrong.
Porventura mudará o ethiope a sua pele, ou o leopardo as suas manchas? assim podereis vós fazer o bem, sendo ensinados a fazer o mal.
24 Therefore have I scattered them, As broken straw passing away, by the wind of the desert.
Pelo que os espalharei como o rastolho, rastolho que passa com o vento do deserto.
25 This is thy lot Thy measured portion from me, Declareth Yahweh; For that thou didst forget me, And confide in falsehood:
Esta será a tua sorte, a porção das tuas medidas que terás de mim, diz o Senhor; pois te esqueceste de mim, e confiaste em mentiras.
26 Therefore, even I myself, have drawn away thy skirts, over thy face, And thy shame hath been seen,
Assim também eu descobrirei as tuas fraldas até sobre o teu rosto: e aparecerá a tua ignomínia.
27 Thine adulteries and thy neighings, thine unchaste wickedness, Upon the hills in the field, I have seen thine abominations! Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, Wilt thou not become pure? After how long yet?
Já vi as tuas abominações, e os teus adultérios, e os teus rinchos, e a enormidade da tua fornicação sobre os outeiros no campo; ai de ti, Jerusalém! não te purificarás? quanto ainda depois disto esperarás?
