Jeremiah 11
1 The word that came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh saying:
La parole fut [adressée] à Jérémie par l'Éternel, en disant:
2 Hear ye the words of this covenant, —and speak ye unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
Ecoutez les paroles de cette alliance, et prononcez[-les] aux hommes de Juda, et aux habitants de Jérusalem.
3 and say thou unto them, Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, —Accursed, is the man who will not hear the words of this covenant;
Tu leur diras donc: ainsi a dit l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël: maudit soit l'homme qui n'écoutera point les paroles de cette alliance;
4 which I commanded your fathers—in the day when I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt out of the smelting-pot of iron—saying, Hearken unto my voice and do them, According to all that I may command you, —So shall ye become my people, And, I, will become, your God:
Laquelle j'ai ordonnée à vos pères, le jour que je les ai retirés du pays d'Egypte, du fourneau de fer, en disant: Ecoutez ma voix, et faites toutes les choses que je vous ai commandées, et vous serez mon peuple, et je serai votre Dieu.
5 That the oath may be established which I sware to your fathers, To give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I and said, Amen, O Yahweh!
Afin que je ratifie le serment que j'ai fait à vos pères, de leur donner un pays découlant de lait et de miel, comme [il paraît] aujourd'hui. Et je répondis, et dis: Ainsi soit-il! ô Eternel!
6 And Yahweh said unto me, —Proclaim thou all, these words, throughout the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem saying, —Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them,
Puis l'Eternel me dit: crie toutes ces paroles par les villes de Juda, et par les rues de Jérusalem, en disant: écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, et les faites;
7 For I, solemnly took your fathers to witness, in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt—even until this day, betimes, taking them to witness saying, —Hearken ye unto my voice.
Car j'ai sommé expressément vos pères au jour que je les ai fait monter du pays d'Egypte jusqu’à aujourd'hui, me levant dès le matin, et les sommant, en disant: écoutez ma voix.
8 Howbeit they hearkened not neither inclined their ear, but walked severally in the stubbornness of their wicked heart, —so then I brought upon them all the words of this covenant which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.
Mais ils ne l'ont pas écoutée, et n'y ont point incliné leur oreille, mais ils ont marché chacun suivant la dureté de leur cœur mauvais; c'est pourquoi j'ai fait venir sur eux toutes les paroles de cette alliance, laquelle je leur avais commandé de garder, et qu'ils n'ont point gardée.
9 Yahweh therefore said unto me, —There is found a conspiracy, among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem:
Et l'Eternel me dit: il y a une conjuration parmi les hommes de Juda, et parmi les habitants de Jérusalem.
10 They have turned back unto the iniquities of their first fathers who refused to hear my words, yea, they themselves, have walked after other gods to serve them, —the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I solemnised with their fathers.
Ils sont retournés aux iniquités de leurs ancêtres, qui ont refusé d'écouter mes paroles, et qui sont allés après d'autres dieux pour les servir; la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont enfreint mon alliance, que j'avais traitée avec leurs pères.
11 Therefore, Thus, saith Yahweh, Behold me! bringing upon them calamity, which they shall not be able to escape, —and though they make outcry unto me, yet will I not hearken unto them.
C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit l'Eternel: voici, je m'en vais faire venir sur eux un mal duquel ils ne pourront sortir; ils crieront vers moi, mais je ne les exaucerai point.
12 Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, go and make outcry unto the gods to whom they have been burning incense, —but they will not at all, save, them in the time of their calamity;
Et les villes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem s'en iront, et crieront vers les dieux auxquels ils font leurs parfums; mais ces dieux-là ne les délivreront nullement au temps de leur affliction.
13 for according to the number of thy cities, have become thy gods O Judah, —and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem, have ye set up altars to the Shameful thing, altars for burning incense to Baal.
Car, ô Juda! tu as eu autant de dieux que de villes; et toi, Jérusalem, tu as dressé autant d'autels aux choses honteuses, que tu as de rues, des autels, [dis-je], pour faire des parfums à Bahal.
14 Thou, therefore do not pray for this people, Neither lift thou up for them cry or prayer, —For I am not going to hear in the time that they cry unto me concerning their calamity.
Toi donc ne fais point de requête pour ce peuple, et ne jette point de cri, ni ne fais point de prière pour eux; car je ne les exaucerai point au temps qu'ils crieront vers moi dans leur calamité.
15 Why hath the beloved in mine own house, done an abomination? Shall, vows and holy flesh, take away from thee thy wickednesses, or shalt thou by these, escape?
Qu'est-ce que mon bien-aimé a à faire dans ma maison, que tant de gens se servent d'elle pour y faire leurs complots? la chair sainte est transportée loin de toi, et encore quand tu fais mal, tu t'égayes.
16 A green olive-tree, fair with goodly fruit, did Yahweh call thy name, —with the noise of a great tumult, hath he kindled fire upon it, and the branches thereof shall be broken.
L'Eternel avait appelé ton nom, Olivier vert [et] beau, à cause du beau fruit; [mais] au son d'un grand bruit il y a allumé le feu, et ses branches ont été rompues.
17 But, Yahweh of hosts, who planted thee hath pronounced against thee calamity, —on account of the wickedness of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah which they have wrought for themselves, provoking me to anger by burning incense to Baal.
Car l'Eternel des armées, qui t'a plantée, a prononcé du mal contre toi, à cause de la malice de la maison d'Israël, et de la maison de Juda, qu'ils ont commise contre eux-mêmes, jusqu’à m'irriter en faisant des parfums à Bahal.
18 Now when Yahweh, let me know and I did know, then, didst thou shew me their doings.
Et l'Eternel me l'a donné à connaître, et je l'ai connu; et tu m'as fait voir leurs actions.
19 But, I, was as a gentle lamb that is to be led to the slaughter, —and I knew not that against me, they had devised devices [saying] —Let us destroy the tree with its fruit Yea let us cut him off out of the land of the living, And, his name, shall be remembered no more!
Mais moi, comme un agneau, [ou comme] un bœuf qui est mené pour être égorgé, je n'ai point su qu'ils eussent fait contre moi quelque machination, [en disant]: détruisons l'arbre avec son fruit, et l'exterminons de la terre des vivants, et qu'on ne se souvienne plus de son nom.
20 But, O Yahweh of hosts Who judgest righteously, Who triest affections and intellect, —Let me see thine avenging upon them, For unto thee, have I revealed my cause.
Mais toi, Eternel des armées, qui juges justement, et qui sondes les reins et le cœur, fais que je voie la vengeance que tu feras d'eux; car je t'ai découvert ma cause.
21 Therefore, Thus, saith Yahweh Concerning the men of Anathoth, who are seeking thy life, saying, —Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, So shalt thou not die by our hand:
C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit l'Eternel, touchant les gens de Hanathoth, qui cherchent ta vie, et qui disent: ne prophétise plus au Nom de l'Eternel, et tu ne mourras point par nos mains.
22 Therefore, Thus saith Yahweh of hosts, —Behold me! bringing punishment upon them, The young men, shall die by the sword, Their sons and their daughters, shall die by famine;
C'est pourquoi [donc] ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées: voici, je vais les punir; les jeunes gens mourront par l'épée, leurs fils et leurs filles mourront par la famine;
23 And remnant, shall they have none, —For I will bring calamity against the men of Anathoth, in the year of their visitation.
Et il ne restera rien d'eux, car je ferai venir le mal sur les gens de Hanathoth, en l'année de leur visitation.
