James 3
1 Not, many teachers, become ye, my brethren, knowing that, a severer sentence, shall ye receive;
No todos sean maestros, mis hermanos, porque los maestros serán juzgados con más severidad.
2 For, oft, are we stumbling, one and all: If anyone, in word, doth not stumble, the same, is a mature man, able to curb even the whole body.
Porque todos ofendemos en varias cosas. Si un hombre nunca ofende en su charla, entonces él es un hombre perfecto y capaz de mantener todo su cuerpo bajo control.
3 Now, if, the horses bits, into their mouths, we thrust, to the end they may be yielding to us, their whole body also, do we turn about.
Ahora bien, si ponemos freno en la boca de los caballos para que puedan ser guiados por nosotros, tenemos el control total de sus cuerpos.
4 Lo! the ships also, large as they are, and, by rough winds, driven along, are turned about by a very small helm, whithersoever the impulse of the steersman inclineth.
Y de nuevo las naves, aunque son tan grandes y se mueven por vientos violentos, son gobernadas por un pequeño timón, y los guían por donde quieren.
5 So, also, the tongue, is, a little member, and yet, of great things, maketh boast. Lo! how small a fire, kindleth, how great a forest;
Aun así, la lengua es una pequeña parte del cuerpo, pero se jacta de grandes cosas. ¡Qué bosque tan grande puede quemarse por un fuego muy pequeño!
6 And, the tongue, is a fire, —[as], the world of unrighteousness, the tongue, becometh fixed among our members, that which defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the wheel of our natural life, and is set on fire, by gehenna! (Geenna g1067)
Y la lengua es fuego; es el poder del mal colocado en nuestro cuerpo, que contamina todo el cuerpo. Está encendida por él mismo infierno, a su vez hace arder todo el curso de la vida. (Geenna g1067)
7 For, every nature—both of wild beasts and of birds, both of reptiles and of things in the sea, is to be tamed, and hath been tamed, by the human nature;
Porque todo tipo de bestias y aves, y todo ser vivo en la tierra y en el mar, ha sido controlado por el hombre y está bajo su autoridad;
8 But, the tongue, none of mankind can, tame, —A restless mischief! Full of deadly poison
Pero la lengua no puede ser controlada por el hombre; es un mal incontenible, está lleno del veneno de la muerte.
9 Therewith, are we blessing our Lord and Father, and, therewith, we are cursing the men who, after the likeness of God, have been brought into being!
Con ella alabamos a nuestro Señor y Padre; y con ella maldecimos a los hombres que están hechos a la imagen de Dios.
10 Out of the same mouth, come forth blessing and cursing! Not meet, my brethren, for, these things, thus, to be coming to pass!
Fuera de la misma boca viene la bendición y la maldición. Mis hermanos, no es correcto que estas cosas sean así.
11 Doth, the fountain, out of the same opening, teem forth the sweet and the bitter?
¿La fuente envía desde el mismo punto de salida agua dulce y amarga?
12 Is it possible, my brethren, for, a fig-tree, to produce, olives, or, a vine, figs? Neither can, salt, water yield, sweet.
¿Acaso una higuera puede darnos aceitunas, hermanos míos, o tenemos higos de una vid, o agua dulce del mar salado?
13 Who is wise and well-instructed among you? Let him show, out of his comely behaviour, his works, in meekness of wisdom.
¿Quién tiene sabiduría y sensatez entre ustedes? deje que su buena conducta lo demuestre con la humildad que su sabiduría le da.
14 But, if, bitter jealousy, ye have, and rivalry, in your hearts; be not boasting and showing yourselves false against the truth!
Pero si tienes contención y una amarga envidia en tu corazón y el deseo de vencer a los demás, no te enorgullezcas de ello, hablando falsamente contra lo que es verdad.
15 This wisdom is not one, from above, coming down, but is earthly, born of the soul, demoniacal!
Esta sabiduría no es del cielo, sino de la tierra, animal y del Maligno.
16 For, where jealousy and rivalry are, there, are anarchy and every ignoble deed.
Porque donde está la envidia y el deseo de vencer a los demás, no hay orden, sino todo tipo de maldad.
17 But, the wisdom from above, is—first pure, then peaceable, reasonable, easy to be entreated, fraught with mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.
Pero la sabiduría que viene del cielo es primero santa, luego gentil, que cede fácilmente en discusión, llena de paz y misericordia y buenas obras, sin dudar, sin parecer otra cosa que lo que es.
18 And, in harvest of righteousness, with peace, is sown by them that make peace.
Y el fruto de la justicia es plantado en paz para los que hacen las paces.
