Isaiah 42

1 Lo! my Servant, I will uphold him, My chosen, well-pleased is my soul, —I have put my spirit upon him, Justice—to the nations, will he bring forth:

«این است خدمتگزار من که او را تقویت می‌کنم. او برگزیدهٔ من است و مایۀ خشنودی من. روح خود را بر او خواهم نهاد. او عدل و انصاف را برای قومها به ارمغان خواهد آورد.

2 He will not cry out nor will he speak loud, —Nor cause to be heard, in the street, his voice:

او فریاد نخواهد زد و صدایش را در کوی و برزن بلند نخواهد کرد.

3 Cane that is crushed, will he not break, And wick that is fading, will he not quench, —Faithfully, will he bring forth justice:

نی خرد شده را نخواهد شکست، و شعلۀ شمعی را که سوسو می‌زند، خاموش نخواهد کرد. او عدل و انصاف واقعی را به اجرا در خواهد آورد.

4 He will not fade, nor will he be crushed, Until he establish, in the earth, justice, And for his instruction, Coastlands, wait.

دلسرد و نومید نخواهد شد و عدالت را بر زمین استوار خواهد ساخت. مردم سرزمینهای دور دست منتظرند تعالیم او را بشنوند.»

5 Thus, saith GOD himself—Yahweh, —Creator of the heavens that stretched them forth, Out-spreader of earth, and the products thereof, —Giver of breath to the people thereon, And of spirit to them who walk therein,

یهوه، خدایی که آسمانها را آفرید و گسترانید و زمین و هر چه را که در آن است به وجود آورد و نفس و حیات به تمام مردم جهان می‌بخشد، به خدمتگزار خود چنین می‌گوید:

6 I—Yahweh, have called thee in righteousness, And will firmly grasp thy hand, —And will keep thee And give thee—As the covenant of a people, As the light of nations:

«من که خداوند هستم تو را خوانده‌ام و به تو قدرت داده‌ام تا عدالت را برقرار سازی. توسط تو با تمام قومهای جهان عهد می‌بندم و به‌وسیلۀ تو به مردم دنیا نور می‌بخشم.

7 To open eyes that are blind, —To bring forth Out of the dungeon the captive Out of the prison, the dwellers in darkness.

تو چشمان کوران را باز خواهی کرد و آنانی را که در زندانهای تاریک اسیرند آزاد خواهی ساخت.

8 I, am Yahweh, that, is my Name, And, my glory, to another, will I not give, Nor my praise to images.

«من یهوه هستم و نام من همین است. جلال خود را به کسی نمی‌دهم و بتها را شریک ستایش خود نمی‌سازم.

9 Things told in advance, lo! they have come to pass, —And new things, am I telling, Ere yet they spring forth, I let, you, hear them.

آنچه تا به حال پیشگویی کرده‌ام، انجام گرفته است. اینک پیشگویی‌های جدیدی می‌کنم و شما را از آینده خبر می‌دهم.»

10 Sing to Yahweh, a song that is new, His praise, from the end of the earth, —Ye that go down to the sea, and the fulness thereof, The Coastlands and ye who dwell therein.

ای جزیره‌های دور دست و ای کسانی که در آنها زندگی می‌کنید، در وصف خداوند سرودی تازه بخوانید. ای دریاها و ای همهٔ کسانی که در آنها سفر می‌کنید، او را پرستش نمایید.

11 Let the wilderness shout, and the cities thereof, The villages wherein dwelleth Kedar, —Let the inhabitants of the crag, raise shouts of triumph, From the top of the mountains, let them cry aloud:

صحرا و شهرهایش خدا را ستایش کنند. اهالی «قیدار» او را بپرستند. ساکنان «سالع» از قلهٔ کوهها فریاد شادی سر دهند!

12 Let them render unto Yahweh, glory, —And, his praise, in the Coastlands let them tell.

کسانی که در سرزمینهای دور دست زندگی می‌کنند جلال خداوند را بیان کنند و او را ستایش نمایند.

13 Yahweh, as a hero, goeth forth, As a man of war, he stirreth up jealousy, —He giveth a cry, yea he raiseth a war-cry, Over his foes, he showeth his strength.

خداوند همچون جنگاوری توانا به میدان جنگ خواهد آمد و فریاد برآورده، دشمنان خود را شکست خواهد داد.

14 I have held my peace from age-past times, I kept still, I restrained myself, —As a travailing woman, I pant, I breathe hard and gasp, all at once!

او خواهد گفت: «مدت مدیدی است که سکوت کرده و جلوی خشم خود را گرفته‌ام. اما دیگر ساکت نخواهم ماند، بلکه مانند زنی که درد زایمان او را گرفته باشد، فریاد خواهم زد.

15 I will lay waste mountains, and hills, And all their vegetation, will I wither, —And I will make rivers to be shores, And lakes, will I dry up:

کوهها و تپه‌ها را با خاک یکسان خواهم کرد و تمام گیاهان را از بین خواهم برد و همهٔ رودخانه‌ها و نهرها را خشک خواهم کرد.

16 Thus will I lead the blind, by a way they know not, In paths they know not, will I guide them, —I will make the place that was dark before them to be, light. And crooked ways, to be, straight, These things, have I done unto them, And have not forsaken them.

قوم کورباطن خود را به راهی که پیشتر آن را ندیده بودند هدایت خواهم کرد. تاریکی را پیش روی ایشان روشن خواهم ساخت و راه آنها را صاف و هموار خواهم کرد.

17 They have drawn back They turn very pale Who have been trusting in a graven image, —Who have been saying to a molten image, Ye, are our gods!

آنگاه کسانی که به بتها اعتماد می‌کنند و آنها را خدا می‌نامند مأیوس و رسوا خواهند شد.

18 Ye deaf hear! And ye blind look around that ye may see,

«ای کران بشنوید، و ای کوران ببینید. من شما را برگزیده‌ام تا رسولان مطیع من باشید، اما شما به آنچه دیده و شنیده‌اید توجه نمی‌کنید. شما قومی کور و کر هستید.»

19 Who is blind if not my Servant? Or deaf, like, my messenger whom I send? Who is, blind, like an intimate friend? Or blind like the Servant of Yahweh?

20 Seeing many things, yet thou heedest not, Opening the ears yet he heareth not,

21 Yahweh, is well-pleased for his own righteousness’ sake, He magnifieth instruction and maketh it majestic.

خداوند قوانین عالی خود را به قوم خویش عطا فرمود تا ایشان آن را محترم بدارند و توسط آن عدالت او را به مردم جهان نشان دهند.

22 But, that, is a people preyed upon and plundered, Snared in holes, all of them, And, in houses of restraint, concealed, —They have become a prey, and there is none to deliver, —A booty, and there is none to say—Restore!

اما قوم او از عهدهٔ انجام این کار برنمی‌آیند. زیرا آنها تاراج شده‌اند و در سیاهچال زندانی هستند. ایشان غارت شده‌اند و کسی نیست به دادشان برسد.

23 Who among you, will give ear to this, —Let him hearken and hear, for an aftertime?

آیا در میان شما کسی هست که به این سخنان توجه کند و درس عبرت گیرد؟

24 Who gave, as a booty, Jacob. And, Israel, to them who were ready to take prey? Was it not, Yahweh? He against whom we have sinned, And they were not willing, in his ways, to walk, Neither hearkened they to his instruction?

چه کسی اجازه داد اسرائیل غارت و تاراج شود؟ آیا این همان خداوندی نیست که به او گناه کردند؟ بله، آنها راههای او را دنبال نکردند و از قوانین او اطاعت ننمودند،

25 So he hath poured out, upon him, the glow of his anger, and the strength of battle; And it hath set him aflame round about, yet he knoweth it not, And it hath kindled upon him yet he layeth it not to heart.

برای همین بود که خداوند اینچنین بر قوم خود خشمگین شد و بلای جنگ را دامنگیر ایشان ساخت. آتش خشم او سراسر قوم را فرا گرفت، اما ایشان باز درس عبرت نگرفتند.
