Isaiah 34
1 Come near ye nations to hear, And, ye races, attend, —Let the earth hear, and the fulness thereof, The world and all things produced therefrom:
Approchez, nations, pour entendre! Peuples, soyez attentifs! Que la terre écoute, elle et ce qui la remplit, Le monde et tout ce qu’il produit!
2 That Yahweh hath wrath against all the nations, and indignation against all their host, —He hath devoted them to destruction He hath delivered them to slaughter;
Car la colère de l’Éternel va fondre sur toutes les nations, Et sa fureur sur toute leur armée: Il les voue à l’extermination, Il les livre au carnage.
3 And their slain shall be cast out, And their carcases, the stench of them shall ascend, —And, the mountains, shall melt away with their blood.
Leurs morts sont jetés, Leurs cadavres exhalent la puanteur, Et les montagnes se fondent dans leur sang.
4 Then shall be dissolved all the host of the heavens, And the heavens shall roll up as a scroll, —Yea, all their host, shall fade—Like the fading and falling of a leaf from a vine, and Like what fadeth and falleth from a fig-tree.
Toute l’armée des cieux se dissout; Les cieux sont roulés comme un livre, Et toute leur armée tombe, Comme tombe la feuille de la vigne, Comme tombe celle du figuier.
5 For my sword hath been sated in the heavens, —Lo! upon Edom, shall it descend, Even on the people whom I have devoted to justice.
Mon épée s’est enivrée dans les cieux; Voici, elle va descendre sur Édom, Sur le peuple que j’ai voué à l’extermination, pour le châtier.
6 A sword, hath Yahweh—Glutted with blood Sated with fat, —With the blood of well-fed lambs and he-goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams, —For, a sacrifice, hath Yahweh in Bozrah, Yea a great slaughter in the land of Edom;
L’épée de l’Éternel est pleine de sang, couverte de graisse, Du sang des agneaux et des boucs, De la graisse des reins des béliers; Car il y a des victimes de l’Éternel à Botsra, Et un grand carnage dans le pays d’Édom,
7 Then shall buffaloes come down with them, And bullocks with bulls, —So shall their land be soaked with blood, And, their dust, with fat, shall be enriched.
Les buffles tombent avec eux, Et les bœufs avec les taureaux; La terre s’abreuve de sang, Et le sol est imprégné de graisse.
8 For a day of avenging, hath Yahweh, —A year of requitals for the quarrel of Zion.
Car c’est un jour de vengeance pour l’Éternel, Une année de représailles pour la cause de Sion.
9 Then shall the torrents thereof be turned into pitch, And the dust thereof, into brimstone, —So shall her land become burning pitch:
Les torrents d’Édom seront changés en poix, Et sa poussière en soufre; Et sa terre sera comme de la poix qui brûle.
10 Neither night nor day, shall it be quenched, To times age-abiding, shall ascend the smoke thereof, —From generation to generation, shall it be waste, Never, never, shall any pass through it:
Elle ne s’éteindra ni jour ni nuit, La fumée s’en élèvera éternellement; D’âge en âge elle sera désolée, A tout jamais personne n’y passera.
11 That the vomiting pelican and the bittern may possess it: And the great owl and the raven, dwell therein; Then will he stretch out over it The line of desolation, and The plummet of emptiness.
Le pélican et le hérisson la posséderont, La chouette et le corbeau l’habiteront. On y étendra le cordeau de la désolation, Et le niveau de la destruction.
12 Her nobles (but none, are, there)! unto royalty, will call, —All, all her princes, shall become nought.
Il n’y aura plus de grands pour proclamer un roi, Tous ses princes seront anéantis.
13 Then shall come up, in her palaces thorns Nettles and thistles in her fortresses, —And she shall become A home for wild dogs, An enclosure for ostriches;
Les épines croîtront dans ses palais, Les ronces et les chardons dans ses forteresses. Ce sera la demeure des chacals, Le repaire des autruches;
14 Then shall criers meet with howlers, And, the shaggy creature, unto his fellow, shall call, —Only, there, shall, the night-spectre, Make her settlement, And find for herself a place of rest:
Les animaux du désert y rencontreront les chiens sauvages, Et les boucs s’y appelleront les uns les autres; Là le spectre de la nuit aura sa demeure, Et trouvera son lieu de repos;
15 There, shall, the arrow-snake, Make her nest and lay, And hatch and gather under her shadow, —Only, there, shall be gathered the falcons, every one with her mate.
Là le serpent fera son nid, déposera ses œufs, Les couvera, et recueillera ses petits à son ombre; Là se rassembleront tous les vautours.
16 Seek ye out of the scroll of Yahweh, and read, Not, one from among them, is lacking, None, hath missed, her mate, —For, a mouth, hath, itself commanded, And, his spirit, hath itself gathered them:
Consultez le livre de l’Éternel, et lisez! Aucun d’eux ne fera défaut, Ni l’un ni l’autre ne manqueront; Car sa bouche l’a ordonné. C’est son esprit qui les rassemblera.
17 Yea he himself, hath cast for them a lot, And his own hand, hath given to them a portion by line, —Unto times age-abiding, shall they possess it, To generation after generation, shall they dwell therein.
Il a jeté pour eux le sort, Et sa main leur a partagé cette terre au cordeau, Ils la posséderont toujours, Ils l’habiteront d’âge en âge.
