< Isaiah 26 >
1 In that day, shall be sung this song, in the land of Judah, —A strong city, have we! Salvation, will he set for walls and rampart,
A HIKI aku ia la, e oliia no keia oli ana, Ma ka aina o ka Iuda; He kulanakauhale paa ko makou; O ke ola no kana e hoonoho ai, i pa, i pakaua no hoi.
2 Open ye the gates, —That there may enter in—a righteous nation preserving fidelity.
E wehe i na pukapa, i komo iloko ka lahuikanaka pono, Ka poe hoi i malama i ka oiaio.
3 A purpose sustained, thou wilt guard, [saying], Prosper! Prosper! Because in thee, hath he been led to trust.
Ka mea i kupaa ka manao, E malama ana oe ia ia me ka malu loa, No ka mea, ua hilinai aku oia ia oe.
4 Trust ye in Yahweh, unto futurity, —For, in Yah, Yahweh, is a rock of ages.
E hilinai aku oukou ia Iehova a i ka manawa pau ole; No ka mea, ma ka Haku, ma o IEHOVA la ka hoomalu, a i ka manawa pau ole.
5 For he hath brought down the inhabitants of the height the city exalted, —He layeth it low, Layeth it low even to the ground, Levelleth it, even to the dust:
No ka mea, ua hoohaahaa oia i ka poe i noho ma kahi kiekie; Ua hoohaahaa oia i ke kulanakauhale kiekie, Ua hoohaahaa oia ia ia ma ka honua, Ua hoopili oia ia wahi ilalo i ka lepo.
6 The foot trampleth it, —The feet of the lowly, The steps of the weak,
E hahi ana no ka wawae maluna ona, O na wawae o ka poe i hune, a me na kapuwai o ka poe i nele.
7 The path of a righteous man, is, even, —O Upright One! the track of a righteous man, thou makest level.
O ka aoao o ka poe i pono, ua pololei ia. O oe ka mea pololei e hoopololei i ke ala o ka poe pono.
8 Surely in the path of thy regulations, O Yahweh, we waited for thee, —Unto thy Name and unto thy Memorial, was there a longing of soul:
Ma ke ala o kou mau kanawai, e Iehova, Ua hilinai aku makou ia oe, O ka makemake o ko makou naau, i kou inoa ia a me ka hoomanao aku ia oe.
9 With my soul, longed I for thee in the night, Yea with my spirit within me, I kept on searching for thee, —For, when thy regulations [extend] to the earth, The inhabitants of the world will have learned, righteousness.
Me ko'u naau au i makemake aku ai ia oe i ka po; He oiaio, ua imi aku au ia oe i kakahiaka me ko'u uhane iloko o'u; No ka mea, i ka wa e hooponopono ai oe ma ka honua, E ao no na kanaka o keia ao i ka pono.
10 Let favour be shewed to the lawless, he hath not learned righteousness, In a land of honest dealings, he acteth perversely, —And seeth not the splendour of Yahweh.
E lokomaikaiia ka poe hewa, Aole nae ia e ao i ka pono; Ma ka aina o ka pololei, e hana kekee no ia, Aole hoi e manao aku i ka nani o Iehova.
11 O Yahweh though thy hand be lifted up, —yet do they not see, Would they might see—and turn pale at a people’s zeal, —Surely, the fire of thine enemies, must consume them!
Ua hapaiia kou lima, e Iehova, Aole nae lakou i nana; E ike no nae lakou me ka hilahila, I kou aloha nui i na kanaka ou, E oiaio no, e ai no ke ahi i kou poe enemi.
12 O Yahweh, thou wilt ensure prosperity for us, —For even all our works, hast thou wrought for us,
E Iehova, e haawi mai ana no oe i ka malu no makou; No ka mea, ua hana no oe i ka makou hana a pau no makou.
13 O Yahweh, our God! Lords other than thee, have owned us, —By thyself alone, will we call upon thy Name.
E Iehova, ko makou Akua, Ua noho mai na haku e, i alii maluna o makou, aole oe; Aka, ia oe wale no a me kou inoa makou e hookaulana aku ai.
14 The dead, come not to life again, The shades, do not arise, —Therefore, thou hast visited and destroyed them, And caused to perish every memorial of them.
Ua make ia poe, aole lakou e ola; Ua nawaliwali lakou, aole lakou e ku hou mai: Nolaila oe i hoopai mai, a luku mai ia lakou, A ua hooki loa oe i ka manao ana ia lakou.
15 Thou hast increased the nation, O Yahweh, Thou hast increased the nation thou hast gotten thyself glory, Thou hast extended far, all the ends of the land.
Ua hoomahuahua oe i ka lahuikanaka, e Iehova, Ua hoomahuahua oe i ka lahuikanaka, ua hoonaniia oe; Ua hoopalahalaha ae oe i na mokuna a pau o ka aina.
16 O Yahweh! in distress, they sought thee, —They poured out a whispered prayer, when thy chastening was upon them.
E Iehova, maloko o ke kaumaha, ua imi aku lakou ia oe, I ka wa i hookaumaha ai oe ia lakou, nonoi ikaika loa aku lakou.
17 Like as a woman with child—Draweth near to giving birth, Is in pain, Crieth out in her pangs So, were we before thee, O Yahweh; —
E like me ka wahine hapai, a kokoke mai kona manawa e hanau ai, Ua nui kona eha, a uwe iho oia no ke kuakoko ana; Pela no makou imua ou, e Iehova.
18 We were with child—We were in pain, As it were we brought forth wind, —Salvation, we could not accomplish for the earth, Neither were born the inhabitants of the world.
Ua hapai no makou, ua nahu kuakoko, Ua hanau hoi makou, he mea me he makani la; Aole i hanaia ka mea e ola'i ma ka aina, Aole hoi i haule na kanaka o keia ao.
19 Thy dead, shall come to life again, My dead body, they shall arise, —Awake and shout for joy, ye that dwell in the dust For, a dew of light, is thy dew, And, earth, to the shades shall give birth.
E ola auanei kou poe i make, O ko'u poe i make, e ala mai no lakou: E ala mai, e oli oukou, e ka poe e noho ana ma ka lepo, No ka mea, o kou hau, o ka hau ia maluna o na mea ulu, E hoolei aku no ka aina i ka poe i make.
20 Come my people, enter into thy chambers, And shut thy doors behind thee, —Hide thee as it were a little moment Till the indignation pass over.
E hele mai, e ko'u poe kanaka, E komo oukou iloko o ko oukou keena malu, E pani hoi i ko oukou puka mahope o oukou; E huna ia oe iho no ka manawa uuku, A hala aku ka inaina.
21 For lo! Yahweh, is coming forth out of his place, To visit the iniquity of earth’s inhabitant upon him, —Therefore shall the earth unveil her shed-blood, And throw a covering, no longer over her slain.
No ka mea, aia hoi, o Iehova, ke puka mai la, mai kona wahi mai, E hoopai i ka hewa o na kanaka maluna o ka honua; A e hoike aku no ka honua i ke koko iloko ona, Aole e uhi hou i kona poe i pepehiia,
