Isaiah 21
1 The oracle on the desert of the sea: As storm-winds in the South which with a rush from the desert, do come from a terrible land,
Le fardeau du désert de la mer. Alors que les tourbillons du Sud balaient le pays, cela vient du désert, d'une terre impressionnante.
2 [So] hath, a grievous vision, been told me: —the deceiver, is deceiving. And the spoiler, is spoiling, Go up, O Elam Besiege O Media, All the sighing she hath caused, have I made to cease.
Une vision douloureuse m'est annoncée. L'homme perfide est perfide, et le destructeur détruit. Monte, Elam, attaque! J'ai fait cesser tous les soupirs de la Médie.
3 For this cause, are my loins filled with anguish, Pangs, have seized me, as the pangs of her that is giving birth, —I writhe so that I cannot hear, I tremble, so that I cannot see:
Aussi mes cuisses sont-elles remplies d'angoisse. Des douleurs m'ont saisi, comme celles d'une femme en travail. Je souffre tellement que je ne peux pas entendre. Je suis si consternée que je ne vois pas.
4 My heart fluttereth, A horror, terrifieth me, —My twilight of pleasure, hath he turned for me into a time of trembling.
Mon cœur bat la chamade. L'horreur m'a effrayé. Le crépuscule que je désirais s'est transformé en tremblement pour moi.
5 [Ye thought] to prepare the table—spread the mat—eat—drink! …Arise ye chieftains anoint the shield!
Ils préparent la table. Ils font le guet. Ils mangent. Ils boivent. Levez-vous, princes, huilez le bouclier!
6 For, thus, hath My Lord said unto me, —Go, set the watchman, What he seeth, let him tell!
Car le Seigneur m'a dit: « Va, place une sentinelle. Qu'il dise ce qu'il voit.
7 When he seeth A train of horsemen in double rank, A train of asses, A train of camels, Then shall he hearken attentively with diligent heed.
S'il voit une troupe, des cavaliers par deux, une troupe d'ânes, une troupe de chameaux, il écoutera avec une grande attention. »
8 Then cried he. A lion! On the watch, O My Lord, had I been standing continually, by day, And at my post, had I been stationed whole nights; —
Il cria comme un lion: « Seigneur, je me tiens continuellement sur la tour de guet pendant le jour, et chaque nuit je reste à mon poste.
9 When lo! here was a train of men coming. With horsemen in double rank, —And one began and said, Fallen! fallen! is Babylon, And all the images of her gods, are smashed to the ground!
Voici qu'arrive une troupe d'hommes, des cavaliers par deux. » Il prit la parole et dit: « Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone, et toutes les images gravées de ses dieux sont brisées à terre.
10 O thou My threshing! And the grain of my corn-floor! That which I have heard from Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, Have I declared, unto you.
Tu es mon battage, et le grain de mon sol! » Ce que j'ai entendu de la part de Yahvé des Armées, le Dieu d'Israël, je vous l'ai annoncé.
11 The oracle on Dumah: Unto me, is one crying—out of Seir, Watchman! how far gone is the night? Watchman, how far gone is the night?
Le fardeau de Dumah. On m'appelle de Séir: « Sentinelle, que se passe-t-il dans la nuit? Sentinelle, qu'en est-il de la nuit? »
12 Said the watchman, There cometh a morning. But also a night, —If ye will enquire, enquire, ye—Come, again!
La sentinelle répondit: « Le matin vient, et aussi la nuit. Si tu veux t'informer, informe-toi. Reviens. »
13 The oracle on Arabia, —Among the shrubs in Arabia, must ye lodge, Ye caravans of Dedanites.
La charge sur l'Arabie. Vous logerez dans les fourrés d'Arabie, caravanes de Dédanites.
14 To meet the thirsty, bring ye water, —Ye dwellers in the land of Tema; With bread for him, get in advance of him that is in flight!
Ils apportaient de l'eau à celui qui avait soif. Les habitants du pays de Théma rencontrèrent les fugitifs avec leur pain.
15 For, before swords, have they fled: Before a sword that is drawn, Before a bow that is bent, And before the stress of war.
Car ils ont fui devant les épées, devant l'épée tirée, devant l'arc bandé, devant la chaleur du combat.
16 For, thus, hath My Lord said unto me, —Within a year according to the yearn of a hireling, shall fail all the glory of Kedar;
Car l'Éternel m'a dit: « Dans un an, comme le compterait un ouvrier lié par contrat, toute la gloire de Kédar disparaîtra,
17 And, the remnant of the record of bowmen, The heroes of the sons of Kedar, shall become few; For Yahweh God of Israel, hath spoken.
et le reste du nombre des archers, des vaillants hommes des fils de Kédar, sera peu nombreux; car l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, a parlé. »
