< Isaiah 15 >

1 The oracle on Moab: Because, in a night, was laid waste Ar of Moab—destroyed! Because, in a night, was laid waste Kir of Moab—destroyed,
The prophecy concerning Moab. Yea! in the night of assault was Ar of Moab a ruin! In the night of assault was Kir of Moab a ruin!
2 He hath gone up to Bayith and Dibon, to the high places, to weep, —On Nebo and on Medeba, Moab is howling, On all their heads, a baldness, Every beard, clipped.
They go up to the temple, and to Dibon, to weep upon the high places; Upon Nebo and upon Medeba doth Moab howl; On every head is baldness, And every beard is shorn.
3 In their streets, have they girded them with sackcloth, —On their housetops, and in their broadways, every one is howling—melting in tears;
In their streets they gird themselves with sackcloth; On the tops of their houses and in their public walks every one howleth, And melteth away with weeping.
4 And Heshbon, hath made outcry, and Elealeh, Unto Jahaz, hath been heard their voice, —For this cause, do the armed men of Moab roar, Every man’s soul, quivereth to him.
Heshbon and Elealah utter a cry; Even to Jahaz is their voice heard; Therefore the warriors of Moab shriek aloud; Their hearts tremble within them.
5 Mine own heart, for Moab continueth to make outcry, Her fugitive, as far as Zoar, is like a heifer of three years; For the accent of Luhith, with weeping, they ascend, For by the way of Horonaim—an outcry of destruction, they excite;
My heart crieth out for Moab, Whose fugitives wander to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishijah; For they ascend the heights of Luhith weeping, And in the way of Horonaim they raise the cry of destruction.
6 For, the waters of Nimrim, shall become desolation, —For grass, hath dried up, Herbage hath failed, Green thing, hath not sprung up!
For the waters of Nimrim are desolate; The grass is withered; the tender plant faileth; There is no green thing left.
7 For this cause, the savings they had made and that which they had stored, Over the torrent-bed of the willows, shall they bear them.
Wherefore the remnant of their substance and their wealth They shall carry to the brook of willows.
8 For the outcry hath gone round the boundary of Moab, —As far as Eglaim, the howling thereof, And to Beer-elim, the howling thereof.
For the cry encompasseth the borders of Moab; Even to Eglaim reacheth her wailing, To Beer-Elim her howling.
9 For the waters of Dimon, are full of blood, For I will lay upon Dimon new troubles, —To the escaped of Moab, the lions, Even to the survivors on the soil.
For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; For I bring new evils upon Dimon; Upon him that escapeth of Moab will I send a lion, Even upon him that remaineth in the land.
