Hosea 4
1 Hear the word of Yahweh, ye sons of Israel, —that, a controversy, hath Yahweh with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no faithfulness, nor lovingkindness, nor knowledge of God, in the land:
Écoutez la parole du Seigneur, ô fils d'Israël; car le Seigneur va entrer en jugement avec les habitants de la terre, parce qu'il n'existe plus sur la terre ni vérité, ni miséricorde, ni connaissance de Dieu.
2 Cursing and lying, and killing and stealing, and committing adultery, have broken forth, and, blood-shedding, unto blood-shedding, doth extend.
Les malédictions, le mensonge, le meurtre, le vol, l'adultère, sont répandus sur la terre, et le sang se mêle au sang.
3 For this cause, shall the land mourn, and everyone who dwelleth therein shall languish, with the wild beast of the field and with the bird of the heavens, —moreover also, the fishes of the sea, shall be withdrawn.
C'est pourquoi la terre sera en deuil, et elle sera affaiblie avec tout ce qui l'habite, avec les bêtes des champs, les reptiles et les oiseaux du ciel; et même les poissons de la mer dépériront.
4 Howbeit let, no man, contend, nor let him rebuke another, —since, thy people, are as they who contend against a priest:
Que nul n'ait de contestation, que nul ne reprenne autrui; Mon peuple est comme un peuple révolté contre ses prêtres.
5 So shouldst thou stumble in the daytime, and even the prophet stumble with thee, in the night, —and I should destroy thine own mother.
Et il perdra sa force de jour en jour, et, avec toi, le prophète aussi perdra sa force; J'ai comparé ta mère à la nuit.
6 My people, are destroyed, for lack of knowledge, —Because, thou, hast rejected knowledge, therefore will I reject thee from ministering as priest unto me, and, because thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also, will forget thy children.
Mon peuple est comme s'il ne savait rien; car tu as repoussé la science, et Moi Je te repousserai à Mon tour, pour que tu n'aies plus Mon sacerdoce; tu as oublié la loi de Dieu, et Moi j'oublierai tes enfants.
7 As they were magnified, so, they sinned against me, —My glory—for what was contemptible, did they exchange.
Plus ils se sont multipliés, plus ils ont péché contre Moi; Je changerai leur gloire en opprobre.
8 The sin of my people, they do eat, —and. unto their iniquity, lift they up every man his desire.
Ils se nourriront des péchés de Mon peuple, et ils mettront leurs âmes en leurs iniquités.
9 So doth it come to be—like people, like priest, —therefore will I visit upon him his ways, and, his doings, will I bring back to him;
Et tel sera le peuple, tel sera la prêtre; et sur eux Je tirerai vengeance de leurs voies, et Je les rétribuerai selon leurs conseils.
10 And they shall eat, and not be satisfied, they have encouraged unchastity, yet have not been making increase, —for unto, Yahweh, have they left off giving heed: —
Ils mangeront, et ne seront pas rassasiés; ils se sont prostitués, et ne prospèrent point, parce qu'ils ont cessé de prendre garde au Seigneur.
11 Unchastity, and wine, and new wine, take away the heart.
Le cœur de Mon peuple s'est complu dans la prostitution, le vin et l'ivresse.
12 My people, of their Wood, do ask, —Let, their Staff, then tell them, —for, the spirit of unchastity, hath led them astray, and they have unchastely departed from under their God.
Ils ont consulté des présages, et avec des baguettes on leur a fait des prédictions; ils ont été égarés en un esprit de débauche, et ils se sont prostitués en s'éloignant de leur Dieu.
13 On the headlands of the mountains, they sacrifice, and, on the hills, burn they incense, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because, pleasant, is the shade thereof: For this cause, do your daughters, become unchaste, and, your brides, commit adultery.
Ils ont sacrifié sur les hauts lieux; ils ont brûlé de l'encens sur des collines, sous un chêne ou sous un peuplier, ou sous tout arbre touffu, parce qu'ils se plaisent à l'ombre. À cause de cela, vos filles se prostitueront, et vos femmes seront adultères.
14 I do not bring punishment upon your daughters when they become unchaste, nor upon your brides, when they commit adultery, for, the men themselves, with unchaste women, do seclude themselves, and, with the common women of the shrine, do offer sacrifice, —and, a people who will not discern, must be ruined.
Et Je ne visiterai plus vos filles quand elles se prostitueront, ni vos femmes quand elles seront adultères, parce que vous-mêmes vous vous êtes souillés avec des prostituées, et que vous avez sacrifié avec des initiés, et que le peuple (un peuple intelligent!) s'est laissé prendre aux filets d'une prostituée.
15 Though unchaste art thou, O Israel, let not Judah, become guilty, neither let them enter Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, and [then] swear, By the life of Yahweh!
Or sache-le bien, toi, Israël, et toi, Juda: n'allez point en Galgala, ne montez point à la maison de On, et ne jurez point par le Dieu vivant.
16 For, as a heifer that is stubborn, hath Israel, been stubborn, —Now, can Yahweh, turn them out to pasture, like a young ram in a wide place?
Car Israël, comme une génisse aiguillonnée par un taon, a eu des transports frénétiques, et maintenant le Seigneur le fera paître comme un agneau dans un lieu spacieux.
17 Mated with idols, is Ephraim, let him alone.
Éphraïm, qui participe aux idoles, a mis devant lui des pierres d'achoppement.
18 Their drinking-bout, having passed, —they became, unchaste, they loved wildly, a contempt, became her great men.
Il a provoqué les Chananéens; ils se sont prostitués et prostitués, et ils ont aimé l'ignominie et ses rugissements.
19 The wind hath bound her up in its wings, —that they may be ashamed, because of their sacrifices.
Seigneur, Tu es un tourbillon de vent emporté sur ses ailes; pour eux, ils seront confondus à cause de leurs autels.
