Hosea 13

1 When Ephraim, spake, there was terror, exalted was, he, in Israel, —but, when he became guilty with Baal, then he died.

زمانی چنین بود که هرگاه افرایم سخن می‌گفت، مردم از ترس می‌لرزیدند، چون او در اسرائیل قبیله‌ای مهم بود. ولی اکنون مردم افرایم با پرستش بعل محکوم به فنا شده است.

2 Now, therefore they go on to sin, and have made them a Molten Thing out of their silver, after the notion of idols, the workmanship of craftsmen, all of it! Of them, are they saying—Ye sacrificers of men! The Great Calf, shall ye surely kiss!

قوم بیش از پیش نافرمانی می‌کنند. نقره‌های خود را آب می‌کنند تا آن را در قالب ریخته برای خود بتهایی بسازند بتهایی که حاصل فکر و دست انسان است. می‌گویند: «برای این بتها قربانی کنید! بتهای گوساله شکل را ببوسید!»

3 Therefore, shall they become like the morning cloud, and like the dew early departing, —like chaff storm-driven out of the threshing-floor, and like smoke out of a chimney.

این قوم مثل مه و شبنم صبحگاهی به‌زودی از بین خواهند رفت و مثل کاه در برابر باد و مثل دودی که از دودکش خارج می‌شود زایل خواهند شد.

4 Yet, I, Yahweh, have been thy God from the land of Egypt, —and, god beside me, shalt thou not acknowledge, for, saviour, is there none besides me.

خداوند می‌فرماید: «تنها من خدا هستم و از زمانی که شما را از مصر بیرون آورده‌ام خداوند شما بوده‌ام. غیر از من خدای دیگری نیست و نجا‌ت‌دهندۀ دیگری وجود ندارد.

5 I, tended thee in the desert, —in a land parched with drought:

در بیابان، در آن سرزمین خشک و سوزان، از شما مواظبت نمودم؛

6 Whenever they were pastured, then were they satisfied, They were satisfied, and their heart, was lifted up, —because of this, they forgat me.

ولی پس از اینکه خوردید و سیر شدید، مغرور شده، مرا فراموش کردید.

7 Therefore am I become to them as a lion, —As a leopard by the way, do I watch.

بنابراین، مثل شیر به شما حمله می‌کنم و مانند پلنگی، در کنار راه در کمین شما خواهم نشست.

8 I will fall upon them as a bear bereaved, and will read asunder the enclosure of their heart, —that I may devour them there, like a lioness, the wild beast of the field, shall tear them in pieces.

مثل ماده خرسی که بچه‌هایش را از او گرفته باشند، شما را تکه‌تکه خواهم کرد؛ و مانند شیری شما را خواهم بلعید، و چون حیوانی وحشی شما را خواهم درید.

9 It hath utterly destroyed thee, O Israel, for it was against me, as thy helper!

«ای اسرائیل، هلاک خواهی شد، آن هم توسط من که تنها یاور تو هستم.

10 Where is thy king, then, that he may save thee throughout all thy cities? and thy judges, concerning whom thou saidst, Oh give me a king and rulers?

کجا هستند پادشاه و رهبرانی که برای خود خواستی؟ آیا آنها می‌توانند تو را نجات دهند؟

11 I might give thee a king in mine anger, and take him away in my wrath.

در خشم خود پادشاهی به تو دادم و در غضبم او را گرفتم.

12 Bound up, is the iniquity of Ephraim, stored away, his sin.

«گناهان اسرائیل ثبت شده و آمادهٔ مجازات است.

13 The pangs of a woman in labour, shall overtake him, —he, is a son, not wise, for, now, he cannot stand still, when children are about to be born.

با وجود این، فرصتی برای زنده ماندن او هست. اما او مانند بچه لجوجی است که نمی‌خواهد از رحم مادرش بیرون بیاید!

14 Out of the hand of hades, will I ransom them, out of death, will I redeem them, —Where is thy pestilence, O death? Where thy plague, O hades? Repentance, shall be hid from mine eyes. (Sheol h7585)

آیا او را از چنگال گور برهانم؟ آیا از مرگ نجاتش بدهم؟ ای مرگ، بلاهای تو کجاست؟ و ای گور هلاکت تو کجاست؟ من دیگر بر این قوم رحم نخواهم کرد. (Sheol h7585)

15 Though, he, among brethren, be fruitful, there shall come in an east wind, the blast of Yahweh out of the desert coming up, that his spring, may dry up, and his fountain, be exhausted, he, will rob the treasure-house of all the vessels of delight.

هر چند افرایم در میان برادرانش ثمربخش بود، ولی من باد شرقی را از بیابان به شدت بر او می‌وزانم تا تمام چشمه‌ها و چاههای او خشک شود و ثروتش به تاراج رود.

16 Samaria, shall be held guilty, for she hath rebelled against her God, By the sword, shall they fall, their infants, shall be dashed to the ground, and, his women with child, shall be ripped up.

سامره باید سزای گناهانش را ببیند، چون بر ضد خدای خود برخاسته است. مردمش به دست سپاهیان مهاجم کشته خواهند شد، بچه‌هایش به زمین کوبیده شده، از بین خواهند رفت و شکم زنان حامله‌اش با شمشیر پاره خواهد شد.»
