Hosea 12
1 Ephraim, feedeth on wind, and pursueth the east wind, all the day, falsehood and force, doth he magnify, —and, a covenant with Assyria, would they solemnize, and, oil into Egypt, must be borne along.
Ephraïm se repaît de vent, et court après les rafales de l’Est; sans cesse il entasse la fraude et la violence. Ils font alliance avec Achour, et des cadeaux d’huile sont portés en Egypte.
2 But, a controversy, hath Yahweh with Judah, —so that he may bring punishment on Jacob, according to his ways, According to his doings, repay him.
L’Eternel va donc mettre en cause Juda, il va faire justice de Jacob selon sa conduite et le rémunérer selon ses œuvres.
3 In the womb, took he his brother by the heel; and, in his manly vigour, strove he with God:
Dès le sein maternel, il supplanta son frère et dans sa virilité il triompha d’un Dieu.
4 Yea he strove against a Messenger, and prevailed, he wept, and made supplication unto him, —At Bethel, he found him, and, there, he spake with us;
Il lutta contre un ange et fut vainqueur, et celui-ci pleura et demanda grâce: il devait le retrouver à Béthel, et là, il parla en notre faveur.
5 And, Yahweh, is God of host, —Yahweh, is his memorial.
Oui, l’Eternel, le Dieu-Cebaot, l’Eternel est son titre.
6 Thou, therefore, by thy God, shalt return, —lovingkindness and justice, do thou keep, so wait thou for thy God, continually.
O toi, reviens donc au sein de ton Dieu, sois fidèle à la vertu et la droiture, et espère en Dieu constamment.
7 A trafficker! in his hand, are balances of deceit, to oppress, he loveth.
Le Cananéen manie des balances frauduleuses, il aime pratiquer le dol.
8 So then Ephraim said, Surely I have gotten me riches, I have found wealth for myself, —in all my toils, they cannot find in me perversity which is sin.
Ephraïm aussi a dit: "Pourvu que je m’enrichisse, que j’acquière la puissance! Quel que soit le fruit de mes peines, on ne surprendra chez moi aucun méfait, rien qui soit une faute."
9 But, I, Yahweh, have been thy God, from the land of Egypt, —I will yet make thee dwell in tents, as in the days of appointed meeting.
Et moi, l’Eternel, qui fus ton Dieu à dater du pays d’Egypte, je te rétablirais dans tes tentes comme aux jours mémorables!
10 And I will lay my word upon the prophets, yea, I myself, have magnified, vision, —and, by the hand of the prophets, will I use similitudes.
Et je parlerais aux prophètes! et je multiplierais les apparitions et, par la voix des prophètes, je ferais connaître des visions,
11 If, Gilead, is in sorrow, surely false, have they been, In Gilgal, have they sacrificed, bullocks, —their very altars, shall become as heaps upon the furrows of the field.
alors que Ghilead est inique et traître, alors que dans Ghilgal on égorge des victimes; alors que leurs autels sont aussi nombreux que les glèbes dans les sillons d’un champ!
12 When Jacob fled to the country of Syria, then Israel served for a wife, and, for a wife, he watched over a flock.
Jacob s’était réfugié sur le territoire d’Aram; Israël avait été esclave pour une femme, pour une femme il avait été pâtre;
13 And, by a prophet, Yahweh, brought up, Israel out of Egypt, —and, by a prophet, was he watched over.
et c’est par un prophète que l’Eternel retira Israël de l’Egypte, par un prophète qu’il le protégea.
14 Ephraim hath provoked, very bitterly, —his own blood, therefore, upon him, will he leave, and, his reproach, shall his Lord, bring back to him.
Et Ephraïm l’a cruellement offensé! Mais sa faute capitale, il la laissera peser sur lui, et ses outrages, son Souverain les lui fera expier.
