Hosea 10
1 A luxuriant vine, is Israel, fruit, beseemeth him, —According to the abundance of his fruit, hath he brought abundance to the altars, according to the goodliness of his land, hath he made goodly statues.
Israël est une vigne florissante, qui porte beaucoup de fruits. Plus ses fruits sont abondants, plus il multiplie les autels; plus sa terre est belle, plus il embellit ses statues.
2 Hypocritical is their heart, Now, shall they be held guilty, —He, will break down their altars, he will destroy their statutes.
Leur cœur est partagé: ils vont être déclarés coupables. Il abattra leurs autels; il détruira leurs statues.
3 For, now, will they say, We have no king, —for we revere not Yahweh, and what could, a king, do for us?
Car bientôt ils diront: Nous n'avons point de roi, car nous n'avons pas craint l'Éternel; et que nous ferait un roi
4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely, in solemnizing a covenant, —therefore shall judgment, spring up like a poisonous plant, on the ridges of the field.
Ils prononcent des paroles, et jurent faussement, lorsqu'ils concluent des alliances; aussi le jugement germera, comme la ciguë sur les sillons des champs.
5 About the calves of Beth-aven, will the inhabitant of Samaria be concerned, —for the people thereof, have mourned over it, and, the ascetics thereof, who, over it, used to exult, [shall mourn] for the glory thereof, because it hath departed therefrom.
Les habitants de Samarie sont épouvantés à cause des veaux de Beth-Aven; car le peuple mènera deuil sur son idole, et ses prêtres tremblent pour sa gloire, qui va disparaître du milieu d'eux.
6 Itself also, to Assyria, shall be borne along, as a present to a hostile king, —shame, shall Ephraim receive, that Israel, may be ashamed, of his own counsel.
Elle sera même transportée en Assyrie, et on en fera présent au roi Jareb. Éphraïm recevra de la honte, et Israël sera confus de ses desseins.
7 Silenced is Samaria: her king, is as a chip on the face of the waters,
Le roi de Samarie disparaît, comme l'écume à la surface des eaux.
8 So shall the high places of Aven, be destroyed, the sin of Israel, Thorn and prickle, shall come up on their altars, —Therefore shall they say to the mountains, Cover us, and to the hills, Fall on us.
Et les hauts lieux d'Aven, le péché d'Israël, seront détruits; l'épine et le chardon croîtront sur leurs autels; et ils diront aux montagnes: Couvrez-nous! et aux coteaux: Tombez sur nous!
9 Beyond the days of Gibeah, hast thou sinned, O Israel: there, came they to a stand, the battle against the sons of perversity, touched them not in Gibeah.
Dès les jours de Guibea tu as péché, Israël! Ils se sont tenus là; la guerre contre les impies ne les atteignit point à Guibea.
10 When I please, then will I chastise them, —and there shall be gathered together against them—peoples, they being harnessed to their two Iniquities;
Je les châtierai à mon gré, et les peuples s'assembleront contre eux, lorsqu'ils seront liés à leur double iniquité.
11 But, Ephraim, shall be a heifer broken in, loving to tread out corn, when, I, have passed over upon her fair neck, —I will drive Ephraim, Judah, shall plow, Jacob, shall harrow to him.
Éphraïm est une génisse dressée, et qui aime à fouler le grain; mais je m'approcherai de son cou superbe: j'attellerai Éphraïm, Juda labourera, Jacob traînera la herse.
12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap ye at the bidding of lovingkindness, furrow to yourselves the newly-ploughed soil, —then will be the time to seek Yahweh, until he come, that he may rain down righteousness for you.
Semez pour la justice; moissonnez par la miséricorde; défrichez-vous des terres nouvelles! Car il est temps de rechercher l'Éternel, jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne et fasse pleuvoir la justice sur vous.
13 Ye have plowed lawlessness, perversity, have ye reaped, ye have eaten the fruit of deception, —because thou didst trust in thy chariots, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
Vous avez labouré la méchanceté, moissonné l'iniquité, mangé le fruit du mensonge; car tu t'es confié en ta voie, dans la multitude de tes hommes vaillants.
14 Therefore shall there arise a tumult among thy peoples, and, all thy fortresses, shall be plundered, as Shalman plundered Beth-arbel, in the day of battle, —the mother, upon her children, dashed to the ground.
C'est pourquoi un tumulte s'élèvera parmi ton peuple, et on détruira toutes tes forteresses, comme Shalman a détruit Beth-Arbel au jour de la bataille où la mère fut écrasée avec les enfants.
15 Even so, hath Bethel, done to you, because of your exceeding wickedness, —in the dawn, shall the king of Israel be, utterly silenced.
Béthel vous fera de même, à cause de votre extrême méchanceté. Au point du jour c'en sera fait entièrement du roi d'Israël!
