Hebrews 7
1 For, this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him, —
Car ce Melchisédech, roi de Salem et prêtre du Dieu très haut, qui alla au-devant d’Abraham, comme il revenait de la défaite des rois, et qui le bénit;
2 To whom even a tenth of all Abraham apportioned, first, indeed, when translated, King of Righteousness, but, after that, King of Salem also, which is King of Peace, —
Auquel aussi Abraham donna la dîme de tout; dont le nom s’interprète premièrement par roi de justice, et ensuite aussi par roi de Salem, c’est-à-dire roi de paix;
3 Without father, without mother, without pedigree, having, neither beginning of days, nor of life an end, but made like unto the Son of God, abideth a priest evermore.
Qui est sans père, sans mère, sans généalogie; n’ayant ni commencement de jours ni fin de vie, ressemblant ainsi au Fils de Dieu, demeure prêtre à perpétuité.
4 Now consider, how great, this man was, to whom, a tenth, Abraham gave out of the choicest spoils, [Yea Abraham] the Patriarch.
Or considérez combien est grand celui à qui Abraham, patriarche, donna même la dîme des plus riches dépouilles.
5 And, they, indeed, from among the sons of Levi who the priesthood receive, have commandment to take tithes of the people, according to the law, that is, of their brethren, although sprung from the loins of Abraham;
À la vérité, ceux des fils de Lévi qui ont reçu le sacerdoce ont ordre, selon la loi, de prendre la dîme du peuple, c’est-à-dire de leurs frères, quoique ceux-ci soient sortis d’Abraham aussi bien qu’eux.
6 But, he who deriveth not his pedigree from among them, hath taken tithes of Abraham. And, the holder of the promises, hath he blessed.
Mais celui dont la génération n’est point comptée parmi eux a pris la dîme d’Abraham et a béni celui qui avait les promesses.
7 But, apart from all gainsaying, the less, by the greater, is blessed.
Or, sans aucun doute, c’est l’inférieur qui est béni par le supérieur.
8 And, here, indeed, dying men take tithes, but, there, one of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
Ici, en effet, ceux qui reçoivent la dîme sont des hommes mortels; mais là l’un d’eux n’est représenté que comme vivant.
9 And—so to say a word—through Abraham, even Levi who taketh tithes hath paid tithes;
Et Lévi, qui a reçu la dîme. Ta payée lui-même (pour ainsi dire) en la personne d’Abraham;
10 For, even then, was he, in the loins of his father, when, Melchizedek, met him.
Car il était encore dans son père, quand Melchisédech alla au-devant de lui.
11 If indeed, therefore, there had been, a perfecting through means of the Levitical priesthood, —for, the people, thereon, have had based a code of laws, what further need, according to the rank of Melchizedek, for a different priest to be raised up, and, not according to the rank of Aaron, to be designated?
Si donc le sacerdoce lévitique (sous lequel le peuple reçut la loi) devait donner la perfection, qu’était-il besoin qu’il s’élevât encore un autre prêtre selon l’ordre de Melchisédech, et non selon l’ordre d’Aaron?
12 For, seeing there is to be a change of the priesthood, of necessity, of law too, a change cometh.
Car, le sacerdoce changé, il est nécessaire que la loi soit aussi changée.
13 For, he as to whom these things are said, with a different tribe, hath taken partnership, from which, no one, hath given attendance at the altar;
Or celui dont ces choses sont dites est d’une autre tribu de laquelle nul n’a servi l’autel;
14 For it is, very evident, that out of Judah hath sprung our Lord, —respecting which tribe, concerning priests, nothing did Moses speak,
Puisqu’il est manifeste que Notre Seigneur est sorti de Juda, tribu dont Moïse n’a rien dit touchant le sacerdoce.
15 And, yet more abundantly evident it is—that, according to the likeness of Melchizedek, there is to be raised up, a different priest.
Et cela est plus manifeste encore, s’il s’élève un autre prêtre qui est semblable à Melchisédech,
16 Who, not according to a law of commandment dealing with the flesh, hath arisen, but according to the power of an indissoluble life;
Et qui n’est point établi selon la disposition d’une loi charnelle, mais selon la vertu de sa vie impérissable.
17 For it is witnessed—Thou, art a priest, age-abidingly, according to the rank of Melchizedek. (aiōn g165)
Car l’Ecriture rend ce témoignage: Vous êtes prêtre pour l’éternité, selon l’ordre de Melchisédech. (aiōn g165)
18 For, a setting aside, doth, indeed, take place, of a foregoing commandment, by reason of its own weakness and unprofitableness, —
Ainsi l’ancienne disposition est abolie, à cause de son impuissance et de son inutilité;
19 For, the law, perfected, nothing; but there is the superinducing of a better hope, —through which we draw near unto God.
(Car la loi n’a rien amené à la perfection); mais elle a été une introduction à une meilleure espérance, par laquelle nous approchons de Dieu.
20 And, inasmuch as not apart from oath-taking—
Et de plus, ce n’a point été sans serment (car les autres prêtres ont été établis sans serment;
21 For, they, indeed, apart from oath-taking, have been made priests, but, he, with an oath-taking, through him that was saying unto him—The Lord sware, and will not regret, —Thou, art a priest, age-abidingly (aiōn g165)
Mais celui-ci Va été avec serment, par celui qui lui a dit: Le Seigneur a juré, et il ne s’en repentira point: Vous êtes prêtre pour l’éternité); (aiōn g165)
22 By as much as this, hath, Jesus, become surety of a better covenant also.
Tant est plus parfaite l’alliance dont Jésus a été fait médiateur,
23 And, they, indeed, in greater numbers, have been made priests, because, by reason of death, are they hindered from remaining at hand;
Il y a eu aussi successivement beaucoup de prêtres, parce que la mort les empêchait de l’être toujours;
24 But, he, by reason of his remaining age-abidingly, untransmissible, holdeth, the priesthood. (aiōn g165)
Mais comme celui-ci demeure éternellement, il possède le sacerdoce éternel. (aiōn g165)
25 Whence he is able, even to be saving unto the very end, them who approach, through him, unto God; Since he evermore liveth to be interceding in their behalf.
C’est pourquoi il peut même sauver perpétuellement ceux qui, par son entremise, s’approchent de Dieu, étant toujours vivant, afin d’intercéder pour nous.
26 For, such a high-priest as this, for us, was [even] suited: Loving, noble, undefiled, set apart from sinners, and become, higher than the heavens;
Car il convenait que nous eussions un tel pontife, saint, innocent, sans tache, séparé des pécheurs, et devenu plus élevé que les cieux;
27 Who hath no daily necessity, like the high-priests, beforehand, over his own sins, to be offering sacrifices, after that, over those, of the people, —for, this, he did once for all when, himself, he offered up.
Qui n’a pas besoin, comme les prêtres, d’offrir des victimes, d’abord pour ses propres péchés, ensuite pour ceux du peuple; ce qu’il a fait une fois en s’offrant lui-même.
28 For, the law, constituteth, men, high-priests, having, weakness; but, the word of the oath-taking, which cometh after the law, A Son, age-abidingly, made perfect. (aiōn g165)
Car la loi établit pour prêtres des hommes faibles; mais la parole jurée, qui est postérieure à la loi, constitue le Fils éternellement parfait. (aiōn g165)
