< Habakkuk 2 >

1 Upon my watch-tower, will I stand, and will station myself upon the bulwark, —so will I keep outlook, to see—what he will speak with me, and what I shall reply, when I am reproved.
MALUNA o ko'u wahi kiai ke ku nei au, A maluna o kahi paa ke hoonoho ia'u iho, A e nana ae au e ike ai i ka mea ana e olelo mai ai no'u, A i ka mea a'u o pane aku ai no kuu hoakaka ana.
2 Then Yahweh answered me, and said, Write the vision, Yea, make it plain on tablets, that one may swiftly read it;
Olelo mai o Iehova ia'u, i mai la, E kakau oe i ka mea i ikeia, A e kakau hoi ia ma na papa pohaku, I hiki ka mea heluhelu e hoholo.
3 For yet is the vision for an appointed time, still, it presseth towards an end, and will not deceive, —if it tarry, wait thou for it, for it, surely cometh, —will not be too late.
No ka mea, o ka mea i ikea no ka manawa maopopo ia; A ke lalelale nei i ka hope, aole ia e hoopunipuni; Ina e hookauluaia oia, e kali oe ia ia. No ka mea, e hiki io mai no ia, aohe ia e hookaulua.
4 Lo! as for the conceited one, crooked is his soul within him, - but, one who is righteous, by his faithfulness, shall live.
Aia hoi, o ka mea hookiekie, aole pono kona naau iloko ona; Aka, o ka mea pono, e hoolaia oia ma kona manaoio.
5 Moreover also, when wine betrayeth, a man, is arrogant, and findeth no rest, —because he hath enlarged, like hades, his desire, yea, he, is like death, and cannot be satisfied, —but hath gathered unto himself, all the nations, and assembled unto himself, all the peoples. (Sheol h7585)
A he oiaio, o ka waina, ua hoopunipuni ia; O ke kanaka haaheo, aole ia i noho malie, Ua hoakea oia i kona makemake, e like me ka luakupapau, A ua like oia me ka make, aole ia e ana: Hoakoakoa oia nona iho i na lahuikanaka a pau, A ua houluulu nona iho i na kanaka a pau. (Sheol h7585)
6 Shall not, these, all of them, against him, take up—a taunt, a mocking poem, enigmatical sentences—concerning him? And say—Alas! for him who maketh abundance in what is not his own, How long? that he should be burdening himself with heavy debts?
Aole anei e hapai o keia poe a pau i mele nona, A i wahi olelo hoino nona, a e i aku, Auwe ka mea e hoomahuahua i ka waiwai, aohe nona! Pehea ka loihi! o ka mea e hoonui ana maluna ona i ka aie!
7 Will not thy creditors, suddenly rise up? and they who shall violently shake thee, all at once become active? Then shalt thou serve for booties, unto them!
Aole anei e ku koke mai ka poe e nahu mai ia oe, A e ala mai ka poe e hookaumaha ia oe? A e lilo oe i pio no lakou.
8 Because, thou, hast plundered many nations, all the residue of the peoples, shall plunder thee, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
No ka mea, ua hoopio oe i na lahuikanaka he nui, O ke koena a pau o na kanaka e hoopio lakou ia oe, No ke koko o kanaka, a no ka hana ino i ka aina, I ke kulanakauhale, a me ka poe a pau e noho ana iloko ona.
9 Alas! for him who extorteth an extortion of wrong for his own house, —that he may set on high his nest, that he may be delivered from the grasp of calamity.
Auwe ka mea kuko i ka waiwai pono ole no kona hale, I hookiekie ai oia i kona punana iluna, I hoopakele ai ia ia iho mai ka mana o ka hewa mai!
10 Thou hast counseled shame to thy house—making an end of many peoples, and endangering thine own life.
Ua kuka oe i ka mea hilahila no kou hale, Ma ka hooki ana i na kanaka he nui, Ua hana hewa aku hoi oe i kou uhane.
11 Surely, the stone out of the wall, will make outcry, —and, the tie out of the timber, will answer it.
No ka mea, e kahea mai ka pohaku mai ka paia mai, A o ke kaola laau e pane mai no ia.
12 Alas! for him who buildeth a city with deeds of blood, —and establisheth a town with perversity.
Auwe ka mea kukulu i ke kulanakauhale me ke koko, O ka mea hookumu i ke kulanakauhale me ka hewa!
13 Lo! is it not from Yahweh of hosts—that peoples labour for fire, and, populations, for emptiness, weary themselves?
Aia hoi, na Iehova o na kaua anei keia, e hooluhi na kanaka iloko o ke ahi, A e hookaumaha ia lakou iho no ka mea ole?
14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, —as, the waters, cover the sea.
No ka mea, e hoopihaia ka honua i ka ike i ka nani o Iehova, E like me na wai i hoopiha ai i na moana.
15 Alas! for him who causeth his neighbour to drink, from the goblet of thy fury, and also, making him drunk, —to the end thou mayest gloat over their parts of shame.
Auwe ka mea hoohainu i kona hoalauna, A e ninini i kou mea e wela ai ia ia, i ona oia, i nana aku ai oe i ko lakou olohelohe!
16 Thou art sated with contempt, more than glory, drink, thou too, and expose thy person, —the cup of the right hand of Yahweh, shall come round unto thee, and ignominious filth be upon thy glory;
E hoopihaia oe i ka hilahila no ka nani, E inu hoi oe, a e hoike i kuu okipoepoe ole: O ke kiaha o ka lima akau o Iehova e hiki mai no ia ia oe, A o ka luai hilahila e uhi mai i kou nani.
17 For, the violence [done] to Lebanon, shall cover thee, and wasting by wild beasts shall cause them terror, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
No ka mea, o ka hana ino ia Lebanona e uhi mai ia oe, Me ka luku o na holoholona, i hooweliweli ia lakou, No ke koko o kanaka, a no ka hana ino i ka aina, I ke kulanakauhale, a me ka poe a pau e noho ana iloko ona.
18 What hath a carved image, profited, though the fashioner thereof, carved it? a molten image, and a teacher of falsehood, —though the fashioner of his fashioned thing trusted therein? that men should make Dumb Nonentities!
Heaha ka pono o ke kii, i ka manawa i kalaiia oia e ka mea nana ia i hana? A o ke kii hooheheeia, a me ka mea ao i ka wahahee? A o ka mea nana i hana i kona kii, ua hilinai ia maluna ona, ma ka hana ana i akua lapuwale?
19 Alas! for him who saith to wood, Awake, bestir thee! to a silent stone, he, shall teach! Though he is overlaid with gold and silver, yet, no spirit whatsoever, is in him!
Auwe ka mea olelo i ka laau, E ala mai! A i ka pohaku leo ole, E ku iluna! Oia ke ao mai! Aia hoi, ua uhiia oia i ke gula a me ke kala, Aka, aohe hanu iki iloko ona.
20 Howbeit, Yahweh, is in his holy temple, —Hush before him, all the earth.
Aia no o Iehova iloko o kona luakini hoano; E hamau imua ona, e ka honua a pau.
