Habakkuk 2
1 Upon my watch-tower, will I stand, and will station myself upon the bulwark, —so will I keep outlook, to see—what he will speak with me, and what I shall reply, when I am reproved.
Je me tiendrai en garde, et je monterai sur une roche, et je veillerai pour savoir ce qu'on dira contre moi, et ce que je répondrai quand je serai repris.
2 Then Yahweh answered me, and said, Write the vision, Yea, make it plain on tablets, that one may swiftly read it;
Et le Seigneur me parla, et Il me dit: Écris ta vision, écris-la clairement sur une tablette, afin qu'on la lise couramment.
3 For yet is the vision for an appointed time, still, it presseth towards an end, and will not deceive, —if it tarry, wait thou for it, for it, surely cometh, —will not be too late.
Car ta vision est véritable; elle se réalisera au temps marqué; elle ne sera point vaine. S'il ne vient pas encore, attends-le; car sûrement il viendra et ne tardera point.
4 Lo! as for the conceited one, crooked is his soul within him, - but, one who is righteous, by his faithfulness, shall live.
Celui qui se retire de Moi, Mon âme ne se complaira pas avec lui; le juste vivra de sa foi en Moi.
5 Moreover also, when wine betrayeth, a man, is arrogant, and findeth no rest, —because he hath enlarged, like hades, his desire, yea, he, is like death, and cannot be satisfied, —but hath gathered unto himself, all the nations, and assembled unto himself, all the peoples. (Sheol h7585)
L'homme présomptueux, méprisant, imposteur, n'arrivera point à ses fins; celui qui a rendu son âme vaste comme l'enfer est aussi insatiable que la mort; il réunira sous lui toutes les nations, et il recevra sous lui tous les peuples. (Sheol h7585)
6 Shall not, these, all of them, against him, take up—a taunt, a mocking poem, enigmatical sentences—concerning him? And say—Alas! for him who maketh abundance in what is not his own, How long? that he should be burdening himself with heavy debts?
Mais toutes ces choses ne feront-elles pas de lui un sujet d'histoires et de récits qu'on se répétera? On dira: Malheur à l'homme qui, sans se lasser, accumule les biens d'autrui, et fait cruellement sentir le poids de son collier!
7 Will not thy creditors, suddenly rise up? and they who shall violently shake thee, all at once become active? Then shalt thou serve for booties, unto them!
Car soudain s'élèveront contre toi des gens qui te mordront, et autour de toi veilleront des assassins, et tu seras pour eux une proie.
8 Because, thou, hast plundered many nations, all the residue of the peoples, shall plunder thee, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
Parce que tu as pillé une multitude de nations, les peuples qui restent encore te pilleront à leur tour, à cause du sang des hommes, à cause de tes impiétés contre la terre, contre la ville et ses habitants.
9 Alas! for him who extorteth an extortion of wrong for his own house, —that he may set on high his nest, that he may be delivered from the grasp of calamity.
Malheur à celui qui, en sa maison, a de mauvaises convoitises, qui veut placer haut son nid, pour se délivrer de la main du malheur!
10 Thou hast counseled shame to thy house—making an end of many peoples, and endangering thine own life.
Tu as médité la honte de ta maison, tu as épuisé beaucoup de peuples, et ton âme a péché.
11 Surely, the stone out of the wall, will make outcry, —and, the tie out of the timber, will answer it.
Aussi la pierre des murailles criera-t-elle contre toi, et l'escarbot du haut des solives lui fera écho.
12 Alas! for him who buildeth a city with deeds of blood, —and establisheth a town with perversity.
Malheur à celui qui bâtit une maison avec le sang, et qui la fonde avec l'iniquité!
13 Lo! is it not from Yahweh of hosts—that peoples labour for fire, and, populations, for emptiness, weary themselves?
Ces choses ne sont-elles pas du Seigneur tout-puissant? Maints peuples forts ont été épuisés par le feu, et maintes nations ont défailli,
14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, —as, the waters, cover the sea.
pour que la terre soit remplie de la connaissance de la gloire du Seigneur, qui la couvrira comme l'eau.
15 Alas! for him who causeth his neighbour to drink, from the goblet of thy fury, and also, making him drunk, —to the end thou mayest gloat over their parts of shame.
Malheur à celui qui donne à boire à son ami de la lie de vin, et l'enivre pour voir dans ses cavernes!
16 Thou art sated with contempt, more than glory, drink, thou too, and expose thy person, —the cup of the right hand of Yahweh, shall come round unto thee, and ignominious filth be upon thy glory;
Toi aussi, bois, au lieu de gloire, la plénitude de la honte; que ton cœur s'agite et tremble: te voilà plongé dans le calice que tient la main droite du Seigneur, et l'opprobre s'est amassé sur ta gloire;
17 For, the violence [done] to Lebanon, shall cover thee, and wasting by wild beasts shall cause them terror, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
car l'impiété du Liban te couvrira, et les ravages des bêtes fauves te feront trembler, à cause du sang des hommes et de tes impiétés contre la terre, contre la vile et tous ses habitants.
18 What hath a carved image, profited, though the fashioner thereof, carved it? a molten image, and a teacher of falsehood, —though the fashioner of his fashioned thing trusted therein? that men should make Dumb Nonentities!
À quoi peut servir une statue qu'eux-mêmes ont sculptée? On l'a jetée en fonte, apparence mensongère, et, pour faire une idole muette, l'artiste a eu foi en l'œuvre qu'il a façonnée.
19 Alas! for him who saith to wood, Awake, bestir thee! to a silent stone, he, shall teach! Though he is overlaid with gold and silver, yet, no spirit whatsoever, is in him!
Malheur à celui qui dit au bois: Sors de ton assoupissement, réveille-toi; et à la pierre: Lève-toi; car ce n'est qu'une image; c'est de l'or ou de l'argent battus au marteau, et il n'y a en cette œuvre aucun esprit.
20 Howbeit, Yahweh, is in his holy temple, —Hush before him, all the earth.
Mais le Seigneur réside en Son saint temple; que toute la terre révère Son visage!
