Genesis 9
1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, —and said to them Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth;
Alors Dieu bénit Noé et ses fils, et leur dit: Soyez féconds et vous multipliez et remplissez la terre.
2 and let the fear of you and the dread of you be upon every living creature of the earth, and upon every bird of the heavens, —over everything that moveth along on the ground, and over all the fishes of the sea, —into your hand, have they been given.
Et soyez craints et redoutés de tous les animaux de la terre et de tous les oiseaux des cieux, de tout ce qui rampe sur le sol et de tous les poissons de la mer: ils sont mis dans vos mains.
3 As for every moving thing that hath life, yours, shall it be, for food, —Like the green herb, have I given you all things.
Tout ce qui se meut ayant vie, vous servira d'aliment; aussi bien que la verdure des plantes, je vous donne tout.
4 Yet flesh with the life thereof, the blood thereof, shall ye not eat;
Ce n'est que la chair dans son âme, son sang, que vous ne mangerez point.
5 And surely your blood, of your lives, will I require, From the hand of every living creature, will I require it, —and from the hand of man From the hand of each one’s brother, will I require the life of man:
Et c'est votre sang seul qu'en faveur de votre vie je redemanderai; je le redemanderai à tous les animaux, et je redemanderai la vie de l'homme à l'homme, à son frère, quel qu'il soit.
6 He that sheddeth man’s blood, by man, shall his blood be shed, —For, in the image of God, made he man.
Quiconque versera le sang de l'homme, par l'homme son sang sera versé, car Dieu a fait l'homme à son image.
7 Ye, therefore, be fruitful and multiply, swarm in the earth and multiply therein.
Pour vous, soyez féconds et vous multipliez, et pullulez sur la terre et vous y multipliez.
8 And God spake unto Noah, and unto his sons with him saying:
Et Dieu dit à Noé et à ses fils avec lui:
9 I, therefore, behold me! establishing my covenant with you, —and with your seed after you;
Pour moi, voici, j'érige mon alliance avec vous et avec votre race après vous,
10 and with every living soul that is with you, of birds, of tame-beasts and of all wild-beasts of the earth that are with you, —of all coming forth out of the ark, even to all wild-beasts of the earth;
et avec tous les êtres vivants qui sont à vos côtés, oiseaux, bétail et toute bête de la terre qui est à vos côtés, tous ceux qui sont sortis de l'arche avec vous, de tous les animaux de la terre.
11 yea, I will establish my covenant with you, so that all flesh shall not be cut off any more, by reason of the waters of a flood, —neither shall there be any more a flood to destroy the earth.
J'érige donc mon alliance avec vous à cet effet que dorénavant toute chair ne sera point exterminée par les eaux du déluge et que dorénavant il n'y aura plus de déluge pour détruire la terre.
12 And God said, This, is the sign of the covenant which I am granting betwixt me and you, and every living soul that is with you, —to age-abiding generations: —
Et Dieu dit: Voici le signe de l'alliance que j'institue entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivants qui sont à vos côtés, pour la suite des âges à jamais:
13 My bow, have I set in the cloud, —and it shall be for a sign of a covenant, betwixt me and the earth;
je place mon arc dans la nuée pour qu'il devienne un signe d'alliance entre moi et la terre.
14 and it shall be when I draw a veil of cloud over the earth, —and the bow in the cloud appeareth,
Et lorsque je ferai surgir les nuées sur la terre, et que mon arc apparaîtra dans la nuée,
15 then will I remember my covenant which is betwixt me and you, and every living soul among all flesh, —that the waters may no more become a flood, to destroy all flesh:
alors je me rappellerai l'alliance qui existe entre moi et vous et tous les êtres vivant en toute chair, et [qui stipule] que les eaux ne deviendront plus un déluge pour détruire toute chair.
16 so the bow shall be in the cloud, —and I will behold it, to remember an age-abiding covenant, between God, and every living soul among all flesh that is on the earth.
Et l'arc étant dans la nuée, je le regarderai pour me rappeler l'alliance éternelle qui existe entre Dieu et tout être vivant en toute chair qui se trouve sur la terre.
17 And God said unto Noah, This is the sign of the covenant which have established, between me and all flesh that is on the earth.
Et Dieu dit à Noé: Tel est le signe de l'alliance que j'érige entre moi et toute chair qui se trouve sur la terre.
18 And the sons of Noah who came forth out of the ark, were—Shem and Ham and Japheth, —now, Ham, was the father of Canaan.
Et les fils de Noé qui sortirent de l'arche étaient Sem, Cham et Japheth; or Cham était le père de Canaan.
19 These three, were the sons of Noah, —and from these, was all the earth overspread.
Ce sont là les trois fils de Noé, et c'est d'eux qu'est issue la population répandue sur toute la terre.
20 And Noah began to be a husbandman, —so he planted a vineyard:
Et Noé commença à être agriculteur et il planta de la vigne.
21 and dank of the wine and became drunk, and uncovered himself in the midst of his tent.
Et il but du vin, et il se trouva ivre et il se découvrit au milieu de sa tente.
22 And Ham the father of Canaan saw his father’s shame, —and told his two brethren outside.
Et Cham, père de Canaan, vit la nudité de son père, et le redit à ses deux frères dehors.
23 And Shem and Japheth took a mantle, and put it on the shoulder of them both and went backwards, and covered the shame of their father, but their faces were backwards, and the shame of their father, saw they not.
Alors Sem et Japheth prirent le manteau et le mirent les deux sur leurs épaules, et marchèrent à reculons et couvrirent la nudité de leur père; mais leur visage était tourné, et ils ne virent point la nudité de leur père.
24 And Noah awoke from his wine, —and came to know what his youngest son had done to him.
Et lorsque Noé se réveilla de son ivresse, il apprit ce que lui avait fait son fils cadet;
25 And he said, Accursed be Canaan, —a servant of servants, shall he be to his brethren!
alors il dit: Maudit soit Canaan, Serviteur des serviteurs qu'il soit pour ses frères!
26 And he said, Blessed be Yahweh, God of Shem, —And let Canaan be their servant:
Puis il dit: Béni soit l'Éternel, Dieu de Sem, et que Canaan soit son serviteur!
27 God give extension to Japheth, But make his habitation in the tents of Shem, And let Canaan be their servant.
Que Dieu donne de l'extension à Japheth, et qu'il habite dans les tentes de Sem, et que Canaan devienne leur serviteur!
28 And Noah lived after the flood, —three hundred and fifty years:
Et après le déluge Noé vécut trois cent cinquante ans;
29 so, all the days of Noah, were—nine hundred and fifty years, —and he died.
et la totalité des jours de Noé fut neuf cent cinquante ans, puis il mourut.
