< Genesis 42 >
1 Then saw Jacob that there was corn in Egypt, —and Jacob said to his sons, Wherefore look ye one at another?
Ke Jacob el lohngak lah oasr wheat in acn Egypt, el fahk nu sin wen natul, “Komtal ku mutana ngetnget?
2 And he said, Lo I have heard that there is corn in Egypt, —Go down thither and buy corn for us from thence, that we may live and not die.
Nga lohng mu oasr wheat in acn Egypt. Tal fahla nu we ac molema kutu nasr, kut in tia masrinsral nwe misa.”
3 So Joseph’s ten brethren went down, —to buy corn from the Egyptians;
Ouinge tamulel singoul lal Joseph ah som nu Egypt in moul wheat,
4 but, Benjamin, Joseph’s own brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren, —for he said, Lest there befall him any mischief.
tusruktu Jacob el tia lela Benjamin, tamulel fusr se lal Joseph, elan welulos, mweyen el sensen ac oasr ma sikyak nu sel.
5 Thus came in the sons of Israel, to buy corn in the midst of them that came—for the famine was in the land of Canaan.
Tulik mukul natul Jacob elos wi pac mwet puspis saya som in moul wheat, mweyen sracl sac sun pac acn Canaan.
6 Now, Joseph—he, it was, that was in power over the land, he, it was that was selling corn to all the people of the land, —so Joseph’s brethren came in, and bowed themselves down to him, with their faces to the earth.
Ke Joseph pa governor lun acn Egypt ah, el kukakin wheat uh nu sin mwet yen nukewa fin faclu. Ouinge tamulel lal Joseph elos tuku ac faksufi ye mutal.
7 And Joseph beheld his brethren and recognised them, —and made himself a stranger unto them and spake with them harsh things and said unto them—Whence have ye come in? And they said, From the land of Canaan, to buy food.
Ke Joseph el liyeak tamulel lal inge, el akilenulos, tusruktu el oru oana elan tia etalos. El kouyak ac siyuk selos, “Komtal tuku ya me?” Elos fahk, “Kut tuku Canaan me in moul mongo.”
8 And Joseph recognised his brethren, —whereas they, recognised him not.
Joseph el ne akilen mwet wial inge, a elos tiana akilenul.
9 And Joseph remembered the dreams which he had dreamed regarding them, —so he said unto them—Spies, are, ye! to see the nakedness of the land, have ye come in!
El esamak mweme ma el tuh oru ah, ac fahk nu seltal, “Komtal mwet kalngeyuk sulallal. Komtal tuku in konauk lah mea facl sesr uh munas kac uh.”
10 And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, —but, thy servants, are come to buy food.
Ac elos topuk, “Leum lasr, tia ouingan. Kut tuku oana mwet kulansap lom, in moul mongo.
11 All of us, are, sons of one man, —honest men, are we: thy servants are not, spies.
Kut inge nukewa tamulel, ac kut tia mwet kalngeyuk. Kut mwet na suwohs.”
12 And he said unto him, —Nay! but, the nakedness of the land, are ye come in to see.
Joseph el fahk nu selos, “Mo! Komtal tuku in suk ac konauk lah mea kut munas kac.”
13 And they said: We, thy twelve servants, are, brethren, sons of one man in the and of Canaan, —and lo! the youngest: is with our father this day, and, the one, is not!
Na elos fahk, “Leum lasr, kut tuh tamulel singoul luo nufon, ac kut wen nutin papa sefanna in acn Canaan. Sie tamulel inge misa, ac ma se ma fusr oemeet uh oasr na yurin papa tumasr ah.”
14 And Joseph said unto them, —The very thing, that I spake unto you, saying—Spies, are, ye.
Joseph el topuk, “Oana nga fahk tari ah, komtal mwet kalngeyuk sulallal.
15 Hereby, shall ye be proved, —By the life of Pharaoh, ye shall not go forth from hence, save only by the coming in of your youngest brother hither.
Pa inge ma nga ac oru in konauk lah pwaye ma komtal fahk uh: Nga fulahk ke inen tokosra, lah komtal ac fah tiana som liki acn inge nwe ke na tamulel se ma fusr emeet lomtal an tuku nu yenu.
16 Send—from among you—one that he may fetch your brother, but be, ye, held as prisoners, that your words may be proved whether, truth, is with you, —and, if not, by the life of Pharaoh, surely, spies, ye are.
Sie sumtal enenu in som usalu. Mwet lula an ac fah mutana in presin nwe ke na akpwayeyuk kas lomtal an. Fin tia ouinge, na oana ke tokosra el moul, komtal mwet sulallal.”
17 So he drew them all together into ward, for three days.
Ke el fahk ouinge tari, el fuhlelosi in presin ke len tolu.
18 And Joseph said unto them on the third day, This, do and live, —God himself, do, I, revere.
Ke len se aktolu ah, Joseph el fahk nu selos, “Nga mwet etu sangeng sin God se, ac sripa sefanna pa nga ac ku in tia unikomtal uh kac.
19 If ye, are, honest men, one brother of you shall be kept as a prisoner in your house of ward, —but, ye, go, take in corn for the famine of your houses;
In akpwayei lah komtal pwayena, sie sumtal ac fah mutana in presin, yen ma komtal muta we ah. Mwet lula an ku in folokla, us wheat ma komtal molela ah, nu yurin sou lomtal ma muta masrinsral soanekomtal an.
20 and your youngest brother, shall ye bring in unto me, that your words may be confirmed, and ye die not. And they did so.
21 And they said each man unto his brother—Verily guilty, we are, respecting our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul when he appealed unto us for favour and we hearkened not, —therefore, hath come in unto us this distress.
ac fahk nu sin sie sin sie, “Pwayena lah inge kut eis mwatan ma kut tuh oru nu sin tamulel se lasr ah. Kut tuh liye fosrnga lulap lal ke el kwafe kut in kasrel, a kut tia lohngol ah. Ma ingan pa pwanang kut sun ongoiya inge.”
22 And Reuben responded to them, saying—Spake I not unto you saying, Do not sin against the child! And ye hearkened not? His very blood, therefore lo! it is required.
Ac Reuben el fahk, “Nga na fahk mu komtal in tia oru kutena ma nu sin tulik sac, a komtal tiana lohngyu. Ac inge kut eis mwatan misa lal ah.”
23 But, they, knew not that Joseph was hearkening, —for, the interpreter, was between them.
Joseph el kalem ke ma elos kaskaskin, tusruktu elos tia etu lah el etu mweyen oasr mwet se tafu kas lalos nu sel.
24 So he turned away from them, and wept, —then came back unto them and spake unto them, and took away from them Simeon, and bound him prisoner before their eyes.
Joseph el som lukelos ac mutawauk in tung. Ke el ku in sifil kaskas el foloko, srella Simeon, ac sap kapiri el ye mutalos.
25 Then commanded Joseph that their bags should be filled with corn, and their silver be returned each man’s into his sack, and provision be given for the journey, —and it was done to them thus.
Joseph el sapkin in nwanala pak lun tamulel lal ah ke wheat, ac in folokinyukyang mani lun kais sie nu in pak lal sifacna, ac in itukyang pac mongo ma elos in kang ke elos ac folok nu yen selos. Ma inge orekla oana ke el fahk ah.
26 So they lifted up their corn on their asses, —and went their way, from thence.
Tamulel ekasr ah nwakani donkey natulos ke wheat ma elos molela ah, na elos mukuiyak som.
27 And the first opened his sack to give fodder to his ass at the inn, —and beheld his silver, yea there, it was in the mouth of his sack!
Ke elos sun acn se elos ac mongla we ke fong sac, sie selos ikasla pak lal ah in kiteya donkey natul uh, tuh konauk lah mani lal ah oan oelucng in pak lal ah.
28 So he said unto his brethren My silver hath been returned, yea verily, there it is in my sack! Then went forth their heart and they turned trembling—each man unto his brother saying. What is this that God hath done to us?
Ac el wola ac fahk nu sin tulik wial ah kewa, “Mani luk ah folokinyukme nu sik — pa oan in pak luk uh inge!” Insialos putat na oelucngi ke sangeng, ac elos rarrar ke elos asiyuki sie sin sie ac fahk, “Mea God El oru nu sesr inge?”
29 So they came in unto Jacob their father to the land of Canaan, —and told him all that had befallen them saying:
Ke elos tuku nu yorol Jacob, papa tumalos in acn Canaan, elos fahkang nu sel ma nukewa ma sikyak nu selos, ac fahk,
30 The man that is lord of the land spake unto us harsh things, —and then delivered us up. as spies of the land.
“Governor lun acn Egypt el tuh kaskas arulana kou nu sesr, ac fahk mu kut mwet kalngeyuk sulallal lain facl sel.
31 And we said unto him Honest men, are, we, —we are not spies!
Ac kut tuh topkol ac fahk, ‘Kut tia mwet sulallal. Kut mwet na suwohs.
32 Twelve brethren, are, we, sons of our father, —the one, is not, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.
Kut tuh tamulel singoul luo nufon nutin papa sefanna, ac sie sin tamulel inge misa, ac ma se ma fusr oemeet uh el srakna oasr Canaan yurin papa tumasr ah.’
33 Then said the man the lord of the land unto us, Hereby, shall I get to know that honest men, ye are, —One brother of you, leave ye remaining with me, and corn for the famine of your houses, take ye and go your way;
Ac mwet sac fahk, ‘Pa inge ma se nga ac oru in konauk lah komtal mwet suwohs uh: sie sumtal ac mutana inge, ac ma lula an ac fah us wheat uh ac som nu yen sumtal nu yurin sou lomtal ma masrinsral.
34 And bring ye in your youngest brother unto me, So must I get to know that ye are, not spies, but are honest men: Your brother, will I give up to you, and with the land, shall ye traffic.
Tal tuh use tamulel se ma srik oemeet lomtal an nu yuruk, na nga fah etu lah komtal mwet suwohs ac tia mwet sulallal. Nga fah folokunulot tamulel se lomtal inge nu sumtal, ac komtal fah ku in muta inge, moul ac kuka.’”
35 And it came to pass when, they, were emptying their, sacks then lo! each man’s bundle of silver, was in his sack, —and when they beheld their bundles of silver—they and their father, they were afraid,
Na ke elos okoala pak lalos, elos nukewa konauk lah mani lalos ah oanna in pak lalos. Ac ke elos liye mani uh, elos arulana sangengla, ac Jacob, papa tumalos, el wi pac sangeng.
36 And Jacob their father said unto them, Me, have ye bereaved, —Joseph, is not, and, Simeon, is not, and Benjamin, ye would take! Against me, have happened all these things.
Jacob el fahk nu selos, “Ya kowos lungse oru tulik nutik uh kewa in wanginla? Joseph el wanginla, Simeon el wanginla, ac inge komtal ke usalla pac Benjamin. Nga pa ac keokkin ma inge uh!”
37 Then spake Reuben unto his father saying, My two sons, shalt thou put to death, if I bring him not unto thee, —Come give him up upon my hand, and I, will restore him unto thee.
Reuben el fahk nu sin papa tumal, “Nga fin tia folokunulma Benjamin nu yurum, kom ku in uniya wen luo nutik uh. Fuhlelma nu sik ngan karinganal, ac nga fah folokunulma.”
38 And he said, My son shall not go down with you, —For, his brother, is dead and, he alone, is left, and as surely as there befall him any mischief by the way wherein ye go, so surely shall ye bring down my grey hairs with sorrow unto hades. (Sheol )
Tusruktu Jacob el fahk, “Wen nutik el ac tia wi komtal som. Tamulel lal el misa, ac el mukena lula. Ac ku pac in oasr ma sikyak nu sel inkanek uh. Nga matuoh inge, ac mwe asor komtal oru nu sik inge ku na in uniyuwi.” (Sheol )
