Genesis 38
1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down away from his brethren, —and turned aside unto a certain Adullamite, whose, name, was Hirah.
त्यस समयमा यहूदा आफ्ना दाजुभाइहरूलाई छोडेर हीरा नाउँ भएको कुनै एउटा अदुल्लामवासीकहाँ बस्दथे ।
2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose, name, was Shua, —and he took her, and went in unto her;
त्यहाँ उनले एउटा कनानी मानिसकी छोरीलाई भेटे जसको नाम शूआ थियो । उनले तिनीसँग विवाह गरे र सहवास गरे ।
3 and she conceived and bare a son, —and he called his name Er.
तिनी गर्भवती भइन् र एउटा छोरो जन्माइन् । त्यसको नाउँ एर् राखियो ।
4 And she conceived again and bare a son, —and she called his name Onan.
तिनी फेरि गर्भवती भइन् र अर्को छोरो जन्माइन् । तिनले त्यसको नाउँ ओनान राखिन् ।
5 And she, yet again, bare a son, and called his name Shelah, —and she, was at Chezib, when she bare him.
तिनले फेरि अर्को छोरो जन्माइन् र त्यसको नाउँ शेलह राखिन् ।
6 And Judah took a wife, for Er his firstborn, —and, her name, was Tamar.
यहूदाले आफ्नो जेठो छोरा एर्को निम्ति एउटी पत्नी ल्याइदिए । तिनको नाउँ तामार थियो ।
7 And it came to pass that Er, Judah’s firstborn was displeasing in the eyes of Yahweh, —so Yahweh put him to death,
तर यहूदाको जेठो छोरो एर् परमप्रभुको दृष्टिमा दुष्ट थियो । यसैकारण परमप्रभुले त्यसको प्राण लिनुभयो ।
8 Then said Judah to Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and fulfil the duty of a brother-in-law unto her, —and raise up seed, to thy brother.
यहूदाले ओनानलाई भने, “तँ आफ्नो दाजुकी पत्नीसँग सहवास गर्। आफ्नी भाउजूप्रति देवरको कर्तव्य पूरा गर्, र आफ्नो दाजुको निम्ति एउटा बालक हुर्का ।”
9 And Onan knew that the seed would not be his, —and so although he did go in unto his brother’s wife, yet made he waste upon the ground, so as not to give seed to his brother.
त्यो बालक आफ्नो हुनेछैन भनेर ओनानलाई थाहा थियो । आफ्नो दाजुकी पत्नीसँग सहवास गर्दा दाजुको कुनै सन्तान नहोस् भनेर उसले आफ्नो वीर्य भुइँमा पतन गर्थ्यो ।
10 And it was displeasing, in the eyes of Yahweh what he had done, —so he put, him also, to death,
उसले जे गर्यो त्यो परमप्रभुको दृष्टिमा खराब थियो । परमप्रभुले त्यसको पनि प्राण लिनुभयो ।
11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law—Remain a widow in the house of thy father until Shelah my son grow up. For he said, Lest, he also, die, like his brethren. So Tamar went her way, and remained in the house of her father.
त्यसपछि यहूदाले आफ्नी बुहारी तामारलाई भने, “मेरो छोरो शेलह ठुलो नभएसम्म तिम्रा बुबाकै घरमा विधवा नै भएर बस ।” किनभने अरू दाजुहरूझैँ शेलह पनि मर्छ कि भनेर उनी डराए । त्यसैकारण तामार तिनका बुबाकै घरमा बसिन् ।
12 And when the days were multiplied, then died Shua’s daughter, Judah’s wife, —and Judah consoled himself and went up unto his sheep shearers, he and Hirah his friend the Adullamite, towards Timnah.
त्यसको धेरै समयपछि शूआकी छोरी यहूदाकी पत्नीको मृत्यु भयो । यहूदाले शोक गरिसकेपछि उनी र उनका मित्र अदुल्लामवासी हीराका साथ आफ्ना भेडा कत्रनेहरूकहाँ तिम्नामा गए ।
13 And it was told Tamar saying, —Lo! thy father-in-law is going up towards Timnah, to the shearing of his sheep.
तामारलाई यसो भनियो, “हेर, तिम्रा ससुरा आफ्ना भेडा कत्रन तिम्ना जाँदै हुनुहुन्छ ।”
14 So she put off from her the garments of her widowhood and covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself up, and sat down in the entrance of, Enaim, which is by the way towards Timnah, —for she saw that Shelah had grown up, and she, had not been given him to wife.
तिनले विधवाको वस्त्र फुकालिन्, घुम्टोले आफ्नो टाउको र अनुहार ढाकिन् र अरूहरूले तिनलाई नचिनून् भनेर आफैँलाई कपडाले ढाकिन् । तिनी तिम्नाको बाटोमा रहेको एनैमको द्वारमा बसिन् । किनकि शेलह ठुलो भइसकेका तर तिनलाई उनकी पत्नी हुनलाई नदिइएको तिनले देखिन् ।
15 And Judah, seeing her, reckoned her to be an unchaste woman, —for she had covered her face.
जब यहूदाले तिनलाई देखे तिनले आफ्नो अनुहार ढाकेकी हुनाले तिनलाई एउटा वेश्या ठाने ।
16 So he turned aside unto her. by the way, and said Grant it! I pray thee, let me come in unto thee! For he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What wilt thou give me, if thou shouldst come in unto me?
तिनी आफ्नी बुहारी हुन् भन्ने थाहा नभएर उनी तिनीकहाँ सडकको किनारमा गए र भने, “आऊ, मलाई तिमीसँग सुत्न देऊ” अनि तिनले भनिन्, “तपाईं मसँग सुत्नका लागि मलाई के दिनुहुन्छ?”
17 And he said, I, will send a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give a pledge until thou send it?
उनले भने, “म तिम्रो निम्ति बगालबाट एउटा पाठो दिनेछु ।” तिनले भनिन्, “के तपाईंले त्यो मकहाँ नपठाउन्जेल केही बन्धक राख्नुहुनेछ?”
18 And he said—What is the pledge that I shall give thee? And She said—Thy signet-ring, and thy guard, and thy staff that is in thy hand. So he gave them to her and came in unto her and she conceived by him.
उनले भने, “म तिमीलाई बन्धकको रूपमा के दिऊँ?” तिनले जवाफ दिइन्, “तपाईंको छाप, त्यसको डोरी, र तपाईंको हातमा भएको त्यो लौरो ।” उनले ती सबै तिनलाई दिए र तिनीसँग सुते, अनि तिनी उनीद्वारा गर्भवती भइन् ।
19 Then she arose and went her way, and put off her veil from her, —and put on the garments of her widowhood.
त्यसपछि तिनी उठेर गइहालिन् । तिनले आफ्नो घुम्टो हटाएर विधवाको वस्त्र लगाइन् ।
20 And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge at the hand of the woman, —but he found her not.
यहूदाले ती स्त्रीका हातबाट बन्धकमा रहेका सामान प्राप्त गर्न आफ्ना मित्र अदुल्लामवासीसँग एउटा पाठो पठाए, तर उनले तिनलाई भेट्टाएनन् ।
21 So he asked the men of her place saying. Where is the devotee, she that was in Enaim, by the way? And they said, —There hath been here no devotee.
त्यसपछि त्यस अदुल्लामवासीले त्यहाँका मानिसहरूलाई सोधे, “मन्दिरमा सेवा गर्ने त्यो वेश्या कहाँ गई जो सडक नजिक एनैममा थिई?” तिनीहरूले भने, “मन्दिरमा सेवा गर्ने कोही वेश्या यहाँ छैन ।”
22 Then returned he unto Judah, and said—I found her not, —moreover also, the men of the place said, There hath been here no devotee.
उनी यहूदाकहाँ फर्के र भने, “मैले त्यसलाई भेट्टाइनँ । र त्यस ठाउँका मानिसहरूले पनि भने, ‘मन्दिरमा सेवा गर्ने कोही वेश्या यहाँ छैन’ ।”
23 And Judah said: Thou must take it to her, lest we become a contempt, —lo! I sent this kid, and, thou, hast not found her.
यहूदाले भने, “त्यसले नै ती सामानहरू राखोस्, र हामी शर्ममा पर्नेछैनौँ । मैले त यो पाठो पठाएकै हो, तर तिमीले त्यसलाई भेट्टाएनौ ।”
24 And it came to pass that about three months after, it was told Judah, saying—Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath been guilty of unchastity, moreover also lo! she hath conceived by unchastity. Then said Judah, Bring her forth and let her be burnt.
त्यसको करिब तिन महिनापछि यहूदालाई भनियो, “तपाईंकी बुहारी तामारले वेश्याकर्म गरेकी छे, र त्यो गर्भवती भएकी छे ।” यहूदाले भने, “त्यसलाई मकहाँ ल्याओ र त्यसलाई जलाइयोस् ।”
25 When, she, was about to be brought forth, then, she herself, sent unto her father-in-law saying, By the man to whom these belong, have I, conceived! And she said—Examine, I pray thee, to whom belong the signet-ring, and the guard, and the staff—these!
जब तिनलाई ल्याइँदै थियो, तिनले आफ्नो ससुरालाई एउटा सन्देश पठाए, “यी सामानहरू जसका हुन् म त्यही मानिसद्वारा गर्भवती भएकी हुँ ।” तिनले भनिन्, “यो छाप, त्यसको डोरी र यो लौरो कसका हुन् कृपया पत्ता लगाइदिनुहोस् ।”
26 So Judah examined them and said—More righteous than I! forasmuch, as I had not given her to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
यहूदाले ती सामानहरू चिने र भने, “मैले यिनलाई मेरो छोरो शेलहकी पत्नी हुन नदिएको हुनाले यिनी मभन्दा पनि धेरै धर्मी छिन्, ।” त्यसपछि उनी कहिल्यै तिनीसँग सुतेनन् ।
27 And, it came to pass at the time of her travail, that lo! twins, were in her womb.
तिनको बच्चा जन्माउने समय भयो । तिनको गर्भमा जुम्ल्याहा थियो ।
28 And it came to pass when she was in travail, that one put forth a hand, —so the midwife took and bound upon his hand a crimson thread, saying—This came first!
तिनले बच्चा जन्माइरहँदा एउटाले आफ्नो हात बाहिर निकाल्यो, र सुँडेनीले एउटा गाढा रातो धागो लिएर त्यसको हातमा बाँधिदिएर भनी, “योचाहिँ पहिले बाहिर आयो ।”
29 And so it was that, no sooner had he withdrawn his hand, than lo! his brother had come. And she said, Wherefore hast thou made for thyself a breach? So his name was called Perez.
तर त्यसपछि त्यसले आफ्नो हात भित्र लग्यो, र त्यसको भाइ पहिला बाहिर निस्कियो । सुँडेनीले अचम्म मानेर भनी, “यो कसरी पहिला बाहिर आयो!” यसैकारण त्यसको नाउँ फारेस राखियो ।
30 And afterwards, came his brother, on whose hand was the crimson thread, —so his name was called, Zerah.
त्यसपछि हातमा गाढा रातो धागो भएको त्यसको दाजु बाहिर आयो, र त्यसको नाउँ जेरह राखियो ।
