Genesis 37
1 So Jacob dwelt in the land of the sojournings of his father, —in the land of Canaan.
Jakob aber blieb in dem Lande wohnen, in dem sich sein Vater als Fremdling aufgehalten hatte, im Lande Kanaan.
2 These, are the generations of Jacob—Joseph, when seventeen years old, was shepherding with his brethren among the flocks, and, he, being a youth, was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah wives of his father, —so then Joseph brought in the talk about them—something bad, unto their father.
Dies ist die Geschichte Jakobs: Als Joseph siebzehn Jahre alt war, hütete er das Kleinvieh mit seinen Brüdern, und zwar war er als junger Bursche bei den Söhnen der Bilha und Silpa, der Frauen seines Vaters, und was man diesen Übles nachsagte, hinterbrachte er ihrem Vater.
3 Now, Israel, loved Joseph more than any of his sons, because he was to him, the son of his old age, and he had made him, a long tunic.
Israel hatte aber Joseph lieber als alle seine anderen Söhne, weil er ihm in seinem Alter geboren war; und so ließ er ihm ein langes Ärmelkleid machen.
4 So his brethren saw that their father loved him, more than any of his brethren, and they hated him, and could not bid him prosper,
Als nun seine Brüder sahen, daß ihr Vater ihn lieber hatte als alle seine Brüder, faßten sie einen Haß gegen ihn und gewannen es nicht über sich, ein freundliches Wort mit ihm zu reden.
5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and told it to his brethren, and they went on yet more to hate him.
Einst hatte Joseph einen Traum und teilte ihn seinen Brüdern mit; seitdem haßten sie ihn noch mehr.
6 And he said unto them, Hear ye I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
Er sagte nämlich zu ihnen: »Hört einmal diesen Traum, den ich gehabt habe!
7 Lo! then, we, were binding sheaves in the midst of the field, when lo my sheaf rose up, yea and took its stand, —and lo! round about came your sheaves, and bowed themselves down to my sheaf.
Wir waren gerade damit beschäftigt, Garben draußen auf dem Felde zu binden, und denkt nur: meine Garbe richtete sich empor und blieb auch aufrecht stehen, eure Garben aber stellten sich rings im Kreise um sie auf und verneigten sich vor meiner Garbe.«
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou, reign, over us, shalt thou, have dominion over us? So they went on yet more to hate him, because of his dreams and because of his words.
Da sagten seine Brüder zu ihm: »Du möchtest wohl gern König über uns werden oder gar Herrscher über uns sein?« Seitdem haßten sie ihn noch mehr wegen seiner Träume und wegen seiner Reden.
9 Then dreamed he, yet another, dream, and related it to his brethren, and said: —Lo! I have dreamed a dream, yet again, Lo! then, the sun and the moon, and eleven stars, were bowing themselves down to me.
Ein andermal hatte er wieder einen Traum, den er seinen Brüdern so erzählte: »Hört, ich habe wieder einen Traum gehabt! Denkt nur: die Sonne, der Mond und elf Sterne verneigten sich vor mir!«
10 So he related it unto his father, and unto his brethren, —and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream which thou hast dreamed? Shall we, indeed come in, I, and thy mother and thy brethren, to bow ourselves down to thee to the earth?
Als er das seinem Vater und seinen Brüdern erzählte, schalt ihn sein Vater und sagte zu ihm: »Was ist das für ein Traum, den du da gehabt hast! Meinst du, ich und deine Mutter und deine Brüder sollen kommen und uns vor dir zur Erde verneigen?«
11 Then were his brethren jealous of him, but his father, marked the word.
So wurden denn seine Brüder eifersüchtig auf ihn, sein Vater aber behielt das Wort im Gedächtnis.
12 Now his brethren went their way, —to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.
Als nun seine Brüder einst hingegangen waren, um das Kleinvieh ihres Vaters bei Sichem zu weiden,
13 So Israel said unto Joseph Are not, thy brethren, feeding the flock in Shechem? Come on! and let me send thee unto them. And he said to him Behold me!
sagte Israel zu Joseph: »Du weißt, deine Brüder sind auf der Weide bei Sichem: komm, ich will dich zu ihnen schicken.« Joseph antwortete ihm: »Ich bin bereit!«
14 So he said to him—Go, I pray thee, look after the welfare of thy brethren, and the welfare of the flock, and bring me back word. And he sent him from the vale of Hebron, and he came in towards Shechem.
Da sagte er zu ihm: »Gehe doch hin und sieh zu, wie es deinen Brüdern geht und wie es um das Vieh steht, und bringe mir Bescheid!« So sandte er ihn aus dem Tal von Hebron, und Joseph kam nach Sichem.
15 And a man found him, and lo! he was wandering about in the field, so the man asked him saying—What seekest thou?
Während er nun dort auf dem Felde umherirrte, traf ihn ein Mann; der fragte ihn: »Was suchst du?«
16 And he said, My brethren, am, I, seeking, —do tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding their flock.
Er antwortete: »Meine Brüder suche ich; sage mir doch, wo sie jetzt weiden!«
17 And the man said, They have broken up from hence, for I heard them saying Let us go our way towards Dothan. So Joseph went after his brethren, and found them, in Dothan.
Der Mann antwortete: »Sie sind von hier weggezogen; denn ich habe sie sagen hören: ›Wir wollen nach Dothan gehen.‹« Da ging Joseph hinter seinen Brüdern her und fand sie bei Dothan.
18 And they saw him afar off, —and, ere yet he drew near unto them, they conspired against him, to put him to death.
Als sie ihn nun von weitem sahen, machten sie, ehe er noch in ihre Nähe gekommen war, einen Anschlag auf sein Leben
19 And they said each man unto his brother, Lo! that master of dreams yonder, coming in!
und sagten zueinander: »Da kommt ja der Träumer her!
20 Now, therefore, come! let us slay him and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say A cruel beast, hath devoured him, —And let us see what will become of his dreams.
Nun wohlan! Wir wollen ihn totschlagen und in eine der Gruben werfen und dann sagen, ein wildes Tier habe ihn gefressen; dann werden wir ja sehen, was aus seinen Träumen wird!«
21 And Reuben heard it, and rescued him out of their hand, and said Let us not smite him, so as to take his life!
Als Ruben das hörte, suchte er ihn aus ihren Händen zu retten, indem er sagte: »Wir wollen ihn nicht totschlagen!«
22 And Reuben said unto them Do not shed blood! Cast him into this pit, which is in the wilderness, but put not forth, a hand, against him! that he might rescue him out of their hand, to restore him unto his father.
Dann sagte Ruben weiter zu ihnen: »Vergießt kein Blut! Werft ihn in die Grube dort in der Steppe, aber legt nicht Hand an ihn!« – er wollte ihn nämlich aus ihrer Hand retten und ihn dann wieder zu seinem Vater bringen.
23 So it came to pass, when Joseph had come in unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph of his tunic, the long tunic which was upon him,
Sobald nun Joseph bei seinen Brüdern angekommen war, zogen sie ihm seinen Rock aus, das lange Ärmelkleid, das er anhatte,
24 and took him, and cast him into the pit, but the pit, was empty, there was in it no water.
ergriffen ihn hierauf und warfen ihn in die Grube; die Grube war aber leer, es befand sich kein Wasser darin.
25 And when they had sat down to eat bread, they lifted up their eyes and looked, and lo! a caravan of Ishmaelites, coming in from Gilead, —and, their camels, were bearing tragacanth gum, and balsam and cistus-gum, they were going their way, to take them down to Egypt.
Als sie sich dann niedergesetzt hatten, um zu essen, und in die Ferne schauten, sahen sie eine Karawane von Ismaelitern, die aus Gilead herkamen und deren Kamele mit Tragakanth, Mastix und Ladanum beladen waren; sie wollten damit nach Ägypten hinabziehen.
26 So Judah said unto his brethren, —What profit that we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?
Da sagte Juda zu seinen Brüdern: »Welchen Vorteil hätten wir davon, wenn wir unsern Bruder erschlügen und seine Ermordung verheimlichten?
27 Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites; but let not, our own hand, be upon him, for our own brother, our own flesh, is he And his brethren hearkened.
Kommt, wir wollen ihn an die Ismaeliter verkaufen, aber nicht selbst Hand an ihn legen; er ist ja doch unser Bruder, unser Fleisch und Blut!« Seine Brüder gingen auf den Vorschlag ein.
28 And there passed by certain Midianites travelling merchants, so they drew forth and uplifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites, for twenty pieces of silver, —and they brought Joseph into Egypt.
Als nun die midianitischen Kaufleute vorüberkamen, zogen sie Joseph aus der Grube herauf und verkauften ihn für zwanzig Silberstücke an die Ismaeliter; diese brachten Joseph dann nach Ägypten.
29 And Reuben returned unto the pit, and lo Joseph was not in the pit, so he rent his clothes;
Als Ruben nun zu der Grube zurückkehrte und Joseph sich nicht mehr in der Grube befand, da zerriß er seine Kleider,
30 and returned unto his brethren, and said, —The, lad, is not! And, I, oh where can I, go?
kehrte zu seinen Brüdern zurück und rief aus: »Der Knabe ist nicht mehr da! Wohin soll ich nun gehen?«
31 And they took Joseph’s tunic, —and slaughtered a buck of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood;
Hierauf nahmen sie Josephs Rock, schlachteten einen Ziegenbock und tauchten den Rock in das Blut;
32 and sent the long tunic and brought it in unto their father, and said This, have we found! Examine, we pray thee, whether it is the tunic of thy son, or not!
dann ließen sie das lange Ärmelkleid durch einen Boten ihrem Vater überbringen und ihm sagen: »Dieses haben wir gefunden: sieh doch genau zu, ob es der Rock deines Sohnes ist oder nicht!«
33 So he examined it, and said—The tunic of my son! A cruel beast hath devoured him, —torn in pieces—torn in pieces, is Joseph!
Er sah es genau an und rief aus: »Es ist der Rock meines Sohnes! Ein wildes Tier hat ihn gefressen! Ja, ja, Joseph ist zerfleischt worden!«
34 And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, —and mourned over his son many days.
Und Jakob zerriß seine Kleider, legte ein härenes Gewand um seine Hüften und trauerte um seinen Sohn lange Zeit.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to console him but he refused to be consoled, and said—Surely I will go down unto my son mourning to hades! And his father wept for him. (Sheol h7585)
Alle seine Söhne und alle seine Töchter bemühten sich zwar, ihn zu trösten, aber er wies jeden Trost zurück und sagte: »Nein, im Trauerkleid will ich zu meinem Sohn in die Unterwelt hinabfahren!« So beweinte ihn sein Vater. (Sheol h7585)
36 Now, the Midianites, sold him into Egypt, —to Potiphar courtier of Pharaoh, chief of the royal executioners.
Die Midianiter aber verkauften Joseph nach Ägypten an Potiphar, einen Hofbeamten des Pharaos, den Obersten der Leibwächter.
