Genesis 24
1 Now, Abraham, was old, far gone in days, —and, Yahweh, had blessed Abraham, in all things.
Abraham era ya viejo y avanzado en años; y el Señor le había dado todo en toda su medida.
2 So Abraham said unto his servant, elder of his house, ruler of all that he had, —Place, I pray thee thy hand under my thigh;
Y Abraham dijo a su siervo principal, el administrador de todas sus propiedades: Ven ahora, pon tu mano debajo de mi pierna:
3 that I may put thee on oath, by Yahweh God of the heavens and God of the earth—That thou wilt not take a wife for my son, from among the daughters of the Canaanites in the midst of whom, I, am dwelling:
Y jurarás por él Señor, Dios de los cielos y Dios de la tierra, que no tomarás mujer para mi hijo Isaac de las hijas de los cananeos en quienes vivo;
4 but unto my own land and unto my own kindred, wilt go, —So shalt thou take a wife for my son—for Isaac.
Pero que irás a mi país y a mis parientes y conseguirás una esposa allí para mi hijo Isaac.
5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman may not be willing to follow me into this land, —May I take back thy son, into the land from whence thou camest?
Y el siervo dijo: Si por casualidad la mujer no quiere venir conmigo a esta tierra, ¿no haré volver a tu hijo a la tierra de donde viniste?
6 And Abraham said unto him, —Beware that thou do not take back my son thither!
Y Abraham dijo: Cuídate de que no permitas que mi hijo regrese a esa tierra.
7 Yahweh, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, who took me out of the house of my father, and out of the land of my kindred, and, who spake to me, and who sware to me, saying, To thy seed, will I give this land, he, will send his messenger before thee, so shalt thou take a wife for my son from thence.
El Señor, Dios de los cielos, que me tomó de la casa de mi padre y de la tierra de mi nacimiento, me juró diciendo: A tu descendencia daré esta tierra; él enviará a su ángel delante de ti. y darte una esposa para mi hijo en esa tierra.
8 But if unwilling be the woman to follow thee, then shalt thou be clear from this mine oath, —Only my son, shalt thou not take back thither
Y si la mujer no quiere venir contigo, entonces eres libre de este juramento; solo no lleves a mi hijo allá.
9 So the servant placed his hand, under the thigh of Abraham, his lord, —and sware to him, over this thing.
Entonces el criado puso su mano debajo de la pierna de Abraham, y juró esto.
10 Then took the servant ten camels, from among the camels of his lord, and went his way, —all the goods of his master being in his hand, —so be mounted, and went his way unto Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
Y el criado tomó diez de los camellos de su señor, y toda clase de bienes de su señor, y fue a Mesopotamia, a la ciudad de Nacor.
11 And he made the camels kneel down outside the city, against the well of water, —at the time of evening, at the time of the coming forth of the women that drew water,
E hizo que los camellos descansaran fuera de la ciudad junto a la fuente de agua en la tarde, cuando las mujeres vinieron a buscar agua.
12 Then he said, O Yahweh, God of my lord Abraham! I pray thee cause it to fall out before me today, that thou deal in lovingkindness with my lord Abraham.
Y él dijo: Señor, Dios de mi señor Abraham, permíteme hacer bien en lo que he emprendido hoy, y darte misericordia a mi señor Abraham.
13 Here am, I, stationed by the fountain of water, —and, the daughters of the men of the city, are coming forth to draw water:
Mira, estoy esperando aquí junto a la fuente de agua; y las hijas de la ciudad salen a buscar agua:
14 so it shall come to pass that the young woman unto whom I shall say. Let down pray. thy pitcher that I may drink, and she shall say, Drink, and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, that, her! hast thou appointed for thy servant for Isaac, And, hereby, shall I get to know, that thou hast dealt in lovingkindness with my lord!
Ahora, que la muchacha a la que yo diga: baja tu cántaro y dame un trago, y que diga en respuesta, aquí hay una bebida para ti y déjame darle agua a tus camellos: que ella sea la única destinada por ti para su siervo Isaac: así puedo estar seguro de que ha sido bueno para mi amo Abraham.
15 And it came to pass, ere yet, he, had done speaking, that lo! Rebekah, was coming forth who had been born to Bethuel son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham, —with her pitcher upon her shoulder,
Y aun antes de que terminaran sus palabras, Rebeca, hija de Betuel, hijo de Milca, que era mujer de Nacor, hermano de Abraham, salió con su vasija de agua en el brazo.
16 Now the young woman! was of very pleasing appearance, a virgin whom, no man, had known, —and she went down unto the fountain, and filled her pitcher and came up.
Ella era una muchacha muy hermosa, una virgen, que nunca había sido tocada por un hombre: y ella bajó a la fuente para obtener agua en su recipiente.
17 And the servant ran to meet her, —and said, I pray thee let me drink a little water out of thy pitcher.
Y vino el criado a ella, y le dijo: Dame un poco de agua de tu cántaro.
18 And she said, Drink my lord, —And she hastened and lowered her pitcher on her hand and let him drink.
Y ella dijo: Toma una bebida, señor mío; y bajando su cántaro, le dio a beber.
19 And when she had done giving him drink, —she said For thy camels also, will I draw, until they have done drinking.
Y habiéndolo hecho, ella dijo: Yo traeré agua para tus camellos hasta que hayan tenido suficiente.
20 So she hastened and emptied her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and ran again unto the well, to draw, —and she drew for all his camels.
Y después de poner el agua de su recipiente en el lugar de beber de los animales, regresó rápidamente a la fuente y sacó agua para todos los camellos.
21 Now the man, was eagerly watching her, —keeping silence to see—whether Yahweh had prospered his way., or not.
Y el hombre, mirándola, no dijo nada, esperando ver si el Señor había dado un buen resultado a su viaje.
22 And it came to pass when the camels had done drinking, that the man took a ring of gold, half a shekel its weight, —and two bracelets for her hands, ten of gold their weight;
Y cuando los camellos hubieron tenido suficiente, el hombre tomó un anillo de oro para la nariz, medio siclo de peso, y dos ornamentos para sus brazos de diez siclos de peso de oro;
23 and said Whose daughter art, thou? I pray thee, tell me. Is there in the house of thy father a place for us to tarry the night?
Y le dijo: ¿De quién eres hija? ¿Hay lugar en la casa de tu padre para nosotros?
24 And she said unto him, Daughter of Bethuel, am, I,—[Bethuel] son of Milcah whom she bare to Nahor.
Y ella le respondió: Yo soy la hija de Betuel, hijo de Milca, mujer de Nacor.
25 And she said unto him, Both straw and fodder in plenty, have we, —also a place to tarry the night.
Y ella dijo: Tenemos un gran almacén de pasto seco y alimento para el ganado, y hay lugar para ti.
26 Then the man bowed his head, and bent himself down unto Yahweh;
Y con la cabeza inclinada, el hombre adoraba al Señor;
27 and said, Blessed be Yahweh. God of my lord Abraham, who hath not withdrawn his lovingkindness and his faithfulness, from my lord, —I—being in the way, Yahweh led me unto the house of the brethren of my lord!
Y dijo: Bendito sea el Señor, el Dios de mi señor Abraham, que ha dado una señal de que es bueno y fiel a mi señor, guiándome directamente a la casa de la familia de mi señor.
28 And the young woman ran, and told the household of her mother, —according to these words.
Entonces la niña salió corriendo y llevó la noticia de estas cosas a la casa de su madre.
29 Now, Rebekah, had a brother, whose name, was Laban, —so Laban ran unto the man outside, unto the fountain.
Y Rebeca tuvo un hermano llamado Labán, el cual salió rápidamente al hombre que estaba en la fuente de agua.
30 And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister saying, Thus, did the man speak unto me, that he came unto the man, and lo! he was standing by the camels near the fountain;
Y cuando vio el anillo de la nariz y los ornamentos en las manos de su hermana, y cuando ella le dio aviso de lo que el hombre le había dicho, entonces él salió al hombre que estaba esperando con los camellos junto al manantial de agua.
31 and he said, Come in. thou blessed of Yahweh, —Wherefore shouldst thou stand outside, when I have made ready the house and a place for the camels?
Y él le dijo: Entra tú, sobre quién está la bendición del Señor; ¿Por qué estás esperando afuera? porque he preparado la casa para ti, y un lugar para los camellos.
32 So the man came in towards the house, and ungirded the camels, —and there was given him straw and fodder for the camels, and water for bathing his own feet and the feet of the men who were with him;
Entonces el hombre entró en la casa, y Labán tomó las cuerdas de los camellos, y les dio pasto seco y alimento, y le dio agua a él y a los hombres que estaban con él para lavarse los pies.
33 and [food] was set before him to eat, But he said, I cannot eat, until I have spoken my words. And he said—Speak!
Y le presentaron carne, pero él dijo: No comeré hasta que haya aclarado mis asuntos. Y ellos dijeron: Hazlo.
34 Then said he, —Servant of Abraham, am I.
Y dijo: Yo soy el siervo de Abraham.
35 Now, Yahweh, having blessed my lord exceedingly, and made him great, —and given him flocks and herds and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels, and asses,
El Señor ha dado a mi señor toda bendición, y se ha hecho grande; le ha dado rebaños y vacas, plata y oro, y siervos, y siervas, y camellos y asnos.
36 then did Sarah wife of my lord, bear a son to my lord, after she had become old, —so he gave to him all that he had;
Y cuando Sara, la mujer de mi señor, era vieja, dio a luz un hijo, a quien dio todo lo que tenía.
37 And my lord put me on oath saying, —Thou shalt not take a wife for my son, of the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land, I, am dwelling;
Y mi señor me hizo jurar, diciendo: No tomes mujer para mi hijo de las hijas de los cananeos en quienes vivo;
38 but, unto the house of my father, shalt thou go, and unto my family, —and take a wife for my son.
Pero ve a la casa de mi padre y a mis parientes por mujer para mi hijo.
39 So I said unto my lord, —Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
Y dije a mi señor: ¿Y si la mujer no quiere venir conmigo?
40 And he said unto me, —Yahweh, before whom I have walked to and fro, will send his messenger with thee, so shall he prosper thy way, and thou shalt take a wife for my son out of my kindred and out of the house of my father.
Y dijo: El Señor, a quien yo he guardado antes que yo, enviará su ángel contigo, el cual te hará posible obtener una esposa para mi hijo de mis parientes y de la casa de mi padre;
41 Then, shalt thou clear thyself from mine oath, for thou shalt go in unto my kindred, —and, if they will not grant her unto thee, then shalt thou be clear from mine oath.
Y serás libre de tu juramento para mí cuando vengas a mi pueblo; y si no te dan la joven, estarás libre de tu juramento.
42 So I came in to-day, unto the fountain, —and I said O Yahweh God of my lord Abraham! if, I pray thee thou art prospering my way whereon I am going,
Y vine hoy a la fuente de agua, y dije: Señor, Dios de mi señor Abraham, si tu propósito es dar un buen resultado a mi viaje,
43 here, am I stationed by the fountain of water, —so then it shall come to pass that, the maiden that is coming forth to draw, and I shall say unto her Let me drink. I pray thee a little water out of thy pitcher;
Que ocurra que, mientras espero aquí junto al manantial de agua, si una niña viene a buscar agua, y yo le digo: dame un poco de agua de tu vasija, y ella me dice:
44 and she shall say unto me Both, thou, drink, and for thy camels also, will I draw, the same, shall be the woman whom Yahweh hath appointed for the son of my lord.
Bebe un trago, y te daré agua para tus camellos; que sea ella la mujer marcada por el Señor para el hijo de mi señor.
45 Ere yet, I, could make an end of speaking unto mine own heart, lo! then Rebekah, coming forth, with her pitcher on her shoulder, and she went down to the fountain, and drew, —and I said unto her Let me drink I pray thee!
Y mientras estaba diciéndome esto, Rebeca salió con él cántaro en su hombro; y ella bajó a la fuente para obtener agua; y le dije: Dame un trago.
46 So she hastened and lowered her pitcher from off her, and said. Drink! and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, —So I drank and the camels also, she let drink.
Y luego ella tomó su cántaro de su hombro, y dijo: Bebe un poco, y yo traeré agua para tus camellos.
47 Then I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said Daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom, Milcah, bare to him, —Then put I the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands;
Y cuestionándola, le dije: ¿De quién eres hija? Y ella dijo: La hija de Betuel, hijo de Nacor, y Milca su mujer. Luego puse el anillo en su nariz y los adornos en sus manos.
48 and bowed my head and bent myself down unto Yahweh, —and I blessed Yahweh God of my lord Abraham, who had led me in a way of faithfulness, to take the daughter of the brother of my lord for his son.
Y con la cabeza inclinada, di culto y alabanza al Señor, el Dios de mi señor Abraham, por quien había sido guiado en el camino correcto, para obtener la hija del hermano de mi señor para su hijo.
49 Now, therefore, if ye are dealing in lovingkindness and faithfulness with my lord, tell me, —and, if not, tell me, that I may turn unto the right hand or unto the left.
Y ahora, di si harás lo que es bueno y correcto para mi señor o no, para que pueda tener claro lo que tengo que hacer.
50 Then answered Laban and Bethuel and said, from Yahweh, hath come forth the word, —we cannot speak unto thee ill or well.
Entonces Labán y Betuel dijeron en respuesta: Esto es obra del Señor: no nos corresponde a nosotros decirte sí o no.
51 Lo! Rebekah, is before thee, Take her and go thy way, —And let her become wife unto the son of thy lord, as Yahweh hath spoken.
Mira, aquí está Rebeca: tómala y vete, y que ella sea la esposa del hijo de tu señor, como el Señor ha dicho.
52 And it came to pass when Abraham’s servant heard their words, that he bowed himself down towards the earth unto Yahweh.
Y al oír estas palabras, el siervo de Abraham se postró sobre su rostro y alabó al Señor.
53 Then the servant brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment, and gave unto Rebekah, —and precious things, gave he to her brother and to her mother.
Entonces tomó joyas de plata, y joyas de oro y ropas de gala, y se las dio a Rebeca; y él dio cosas de valor a su madre y a su hermano.
54 And they did eat and drink he, and the men who were with him, and they tarried the night, —and when they arose in the morning, he said Let me go unto my lord!
Entonces él y los hombres que estaban con él comieron y bebieron, y descansaron allí aquella noche; y por la mañana se levantó y dijo: Déjame volver a mi amo.
55 Then said her brother and her mother, Let the young woman remain with us some days or rather ten, —After that, she shall go.
Pero su hermano y su madre dijeron: Deja que la niña esté con nosotros una semana o diez días, y luego ella puede irse.
56 And he said unto them, Do not hinder me, when, Yahweh, hath prospered my journey, —Let me go, that I may take my journey unto my lord!
Y él dijo: No me guardes; el Señor ha dado un buen resultado en mi viaje; déjame ahora volver a mi señor.
57 Then said they, We must call the young woman and ask at her mouth.
Y dijeron: Mandaremos a buscar a la niña, y que ella tome la decisión.
58 So they called Rebekah and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
Y llamaron a Rebeca, y le dijeron: ¿Estás lista para ir con este hombre? Y ella dijo: Estoy lista.
59 So they let go Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant and his men.
Entonces enviaron a su hermana Rebeca y a su siervo con el siervo de Abraham y sus hombres.
60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister! become thou, thousands of ten thousands, —And let thy seed take possession of the gate of them that hate them!
Y dieron la bendición a Rebeca, diciendo: ¡Hermana! ¡Que seas madre de miles y de miles! y que tu simiente venza a todos los que hacen guerra contra ellos.
61 Then mounted Rebekah and her young woman and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man, —so the servant took Rebekah. and went his way.
Entonces Rebeca y sus siervas fueron con el hombre sentado sobre los camellos; y entonces el sirviente tomó a Rebeca y siguió su camino.
62 Now, Isaac, had come in at the entrance, of Beer-lahai-roi, —for, he, was dwelling in the land of the South:
Ahora Isaac había atravesado el desierto en Beer-lahai-roi; porque él vivía en el sur.
63 and Isaac came forth to meditate in the field at the approach of evening, —so he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo! camels, coming in.
Y cerca de la tarde, salió vagando por los campos; y alzando los ojos, vio venir camellos.
64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and saw Isaac, —so she alighted with haste from off the camel;
Y cuando Rebeca, mirando hacia arriba, vio a Isaac, bajó de su camello,
65 and said unto the servant, Who is this man that is walking in the field to meet us? And the servant said, That, is my lord. So she took the veil and covered herself.
Y dijo al siervo: ¿Quién es ese hombre que viene a nosotros por el campo? Y el criado dijo: Es mi amo; entonces ella tomó su velo, cubriéndose la cara con él.
66 And the servant recounted to Isaac, —all the things which he had done.
Entonces el siervo le dio a Isaac la historia de todo lo que había hecho.
67 And Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother; thus he took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her, —and Isaac consoled himself, for the loss of his mother.
E Isaac tomó a Rebeca en su tienda y ella se convirtió en su esposa; y en su amor por ella, Isaac fue consolado después de la muerte de su padre.
