Genesis 23
1 And the life of Sarah came to be, a hundred and twenty-seven years, —the years of the life of Sarah.
সারা 127 বছর বেঁচেছিলেন।
2 And Sarah died in Kiriath-arba, the same, is Hebron in the land of Canaan, —and Abraham went in to wail for Sarah and to weep for her.
কনান দেশের অন্তর্গত কিরিয়ৎ-অর্বে (অথবা, হিব্রোণে) তিনি মারা গেলেন, এবং অব্রাহাম সারার জন্য শোকপ্রকাশ ও কান্নাকাটি করার জন্য (সেখানে) গেলেন।
3 And Abraham rose up from over the face of his dead, —and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying;
পরে অব্রাহাম তাঁর স্ত্রীর মৃতদেহের পাশ থেকে উঠে এসে হিত্তীয়দের সাথে কথা বললেন। তিনি বললেন,
4 A sojourner and settler, am I with you, —Give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, That I may bury my dead, from before me.
“আপনাদের মাঝখানে আমি একজন বিদেশি ও অপরিচিত ব্যক্তি। কবরস্থান বানানোর জন্য এখানে আমাকে কিছুটা জমি বিক্রি করে দিন, যেন আমি আমার স্ত্রীর মৃতদেহ কবর দিতে পারি।”
5 And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him:
হিত্তীয়েরা অব্রাহামকে উত্তর দিল,
6 Hear us, my lord! A prince of God, art thou in our midst, In the choice of our buryingplaces, bury thy dead, —Not, a man from among us his, burying-place, will withhold from thee, from burying thy dead.
“মশাই, আমাদের কথা শুনুন। আমাদের মাঝখানে আপনি তো এক মহান রাজপুরুষ। আমাদের কবরগুলির মধ্যে আপনার পছন্দসই সেরা কবরটিতেই আপনার মৃত পরিজনকে কবর দিন। আমাদের মধ্যে কেউই আপনার মৃত পরিজনকে কবর দেওয়ার জন্য নিজের কবরটি দিতে অস্বীকার করব না।”
7 And Abraham rose up, and bowed himself down to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth;
তখন অব্রাহাম উঠে দাঁড়িয়ে সেই দেশের লোকদের অর্থাৎ, হিত্তীয়দের সামনে প্রণত হলেন।
8 and spake with them, saying, —If it is with the consent of your minds that I should bury my dead from before me, hear me, and intercede for me, with Ephron son of Zohar:
তিনি তাদের বললেন, “আপনারা যদি চান যে আমি আমার মৃত পরিজনকে এখানে কবর দিই, তবে আমার কথা শুনুন এবং আপনারা আমার হয়ে আমার ও সোহরের ছেলে ইফ্রোণের মাঝে মধ্যস্থতা করুন,
9 That he would give me, the cave of Machpelah, which pertaineth unto him, which is within the bounds of his field, —For full silver, let him give it me in your midst, For a possession of a buryingplace.
যেন তিনি তাঁর অধিকারে থাকা সেই মক্পেলা গুহাটি আমায় বিক্রি করেন, যেটি তাঁর জমির শেষ প্রান্তে আছে। তাঁকে বলুন, তিনি যেন সেটি সম্পূর্ণ দাম নিয়ে আপনাদের মাঝে অবস্থিত এক কবরস্থানরূপে আমায় বিক্রি করে দেন।”
10 Now, Ephron, was sitting in the midst of the sons of Heth, —so Ephron the Hittite responded to Abraham, in the ears of the sons of Heth, even all that were entering the gate of his city, saying:
হিত্তীয় ইফ্রোণ তাঁর লোকজনের মাঝখানে বসেছিলেন এবং যে হিত্তীয়েরা তাঁর নগরের প্রবেশদ্বারের কাছে সমবেত হল, তাদের সবাইকে শুনিয়ে শুনিয়ে তিনি অব্রাহামকে উত্তর দিলেন।
11 Nay, my lord, hear me, The field, have I given to thee And, the cave that is therein, to thee, have I given it, —In the eyes of the sons of my people, have I given it thee Bury thy dead.
“হে আমার প্রভু, না,” তিনি বললেন। “আমার কথা শুনুন; আমি আপনাকে সেই জমিটি দিলাম, ও সেখানে অবস্থিত গুহাটিও দিলাম। আমার লোকজনের উপস্থিতিতেই আমি এগুলি আপনাকে দিলাম। আপনার মৃত পরিজনকে আপনি কবর দিন।”
12 So Abraham boweth himself down, before the people of the land:
অব্রাহাম আরও একবার সেই দেশের লোকদের সামনে প্রণত হলেন
13 and spake unto Ephron in the ears of the people of the land saying, Only if, thou, wouldst, hear me, —I have given the silver of the field Take it of me, That I may bury my dead here.
এবং তাদের শুনিয়ে শুনিয়ে তিনি ইফ্রোণকে বললেন, “আমার কথা শুনতে চাইলে, শুনুন। আমি জমিটির দাম দেব। আমার কাছ থেকে তা গ্রহণ করুন, যেন সেখানে আমি আমার মৃত পরিজনকে কবর দিতে পারি।”
14 And Ephron responded to Abraham, saying to him,
ইফ্রোণ অব্রাহামকে উত্তর দিলেন,
15 My lord, hear me, —Land worth four hundred shekels of silver—betwixt me and thee, what is that? And thy dead., bury thou.
“হে আমার প্রভু, আমার কথা শুনুন; জমিটির দাম 400 শেকল রুপো, কিন্তু আপনার ও আমার মধ্যে তাতে কী আসে-যায়? আপনার মৃত পরিজনকে আপনি কবর দিন।”
16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron, and Abraham weighed out to Ephron the silver of which he had spoken in the ears of the sons of Heth, —four hundred shekels of silver, current with the merchant,
ইফ্রোণের শর্তে অব্রাহাম রাজি হলেন এবং হিত্তীয়দের কর্ণগোচরে ইফ্রোণ যে দাম ধার্য করলেন, ততখানি পরিমাণ রুপো: বণিকদের মধ্যে প্রচলিত বর্তমান ওজন অনুসারে 400 শেকল রুপো তিনি তাঁকে ওজন করে দিলেন।
17 So was confirmed the field of Ephron, which is in Machpelah, which is before Mamre, —the field and the cave which is therein, and all the timber which was in the field, which was in all the boundary thereof round about,
অতএব মম্রির কাছাকাছি অবস্থিত মক্পেলায় ইফ্রোণের সেই জমিটি—সেখানকার জমি ও গুহা, দুটিই এবং সেই জমির সীমানার অন্তর্গত সব গাছপালা—হস্তান্তরের দলিল
18 to Abraham as a purchase in the eyes of the sons of Heth, —with all who were entering the gate of his city.
অব্রাহামের নামে তাঁর সম্পত্তিরূপে সেই নগরের প্রবেশদ্বারের কাছে সমবেত সব হিত্তীয়ের উপস্থিতিতে পাকা করা হল।
19 And after this, did Abraham bury Sarah his wife, within the cave of the field of Machpelah, over against Mamre, the same, is Hebron, —in the land of Canaan.
পরে অব্রাহাম তাঁর স্ত্রী সারাকে কনান দেশে মম্রির (অর্থাৎ, হিব্রোণের) পার্শ্ববর্তী মক্পেলার জমিতে অবস্থিত গুহায় কবর দিলেন।
20 So was confirmed the field with the cave which was therein to Abraham, for a possession of a buryingplace, —from the sons of Heth.
অতএব সেই জমি ও সেখানকার গুহাটি হিত্তীয়েরা দলিল করে এক কবরস্থানরূপে অব্রাহামের অধিকারভুক্ত করে দিল।
