Genesis 20
1 And Abraham brake up from thence, towards the land of the South, and fixed his dwelling between Kadesh and Shur, so he sojourned in Gerar.
Từ đó, Áp-ra-ham tiến xuống phía nam, đến vùng Nê-ghép, cư ngụ giữa Ca-đe và Su-rơ, sau đó, ông đi xuống thành Ghê-ra.
2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife: My, sister, is she, —So Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
Trong khi tạm cự tại đó, ông giới thiệu Sa-ra là em gái mình. Vì thế, Vua A-bi-mê-léc cho rước Sa-ra vào cung.
3 Then God went in unto Abimelech, in a dream of the night, —and said to him, Behold thee dead! because of the woman whom thou hast taken, seeing that, she, is a married woman.
Đêm ấy, Đức Chúa Trời báo mộng cho vua: “Ngươi phải chết, vì người đàn bà ngươi đem vào cung đã có chồng.”
4 Now, Abimelech, had not come near unto her, —so he said, O My Lord! a nation even a righteous one, wilt thou slay?
Vì A-bi-mê-léc chưa đụng đến Sa-ra nên vua tự bào chữa: “Không lẽ Chúa diệt người vô tội?
5 Had not, he himself, said to me, My sister, is she? and even she herself, said, My brother, is he? In the integrity of my heart and in the pureness of my hand, have I done this!
Áp-ra-ham đã nói: ‘Nàng là em gái tôi’ cơ mà! Và nàng cũng xác nhận: ‘Áp-ra-ham là anh tôi.’ Con thật tình không có ý làm điều sai trái.”
6 And God said unto him in a dream, I, also, knew, that in the integrity of thy heart, thou didst this, so then, even I myself, withheld thee from sinning against me, for this reason, have I not suffered thee to touch her.
Đức Chúa Trời đáp: “Phải, Ta biết, nên Ta ngăn ngươi phạm tội và không cho ngươi đụng đến nàng.
7 Now, therefore restore the man’s wife, for a prophet, is he, that he may pray for thee and live thou, —But if thou art not going to restore her, know, that thou shalt die, thou—and all that are thine.
Hãy giao trả nàng về nhà chồng. Chồng nàng sẽ cầu nguyện cho ngươi khỏi chết, vì chồng nàng là nhà tiên tri. Nếu ngươi giữ nàng lại, chắc chắn ngươi và toàn dân ngươi sẽ chết.”
8 So Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and spake all these words in their ears, and the men feared greatly.
Vua dậy sớm, triệu tập quần thần, và thuật cho họ nghe mọi việc; ai nấy đều khiếp sợ.
9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, What hast thou done to us? and wherein had I sinned against thee, that thou shouldst have brought in over me and over my kingdom, a sin so great? Deeds, which should not be done, hast thou done with me.
Vua gọi Áp-ra-ham đến và quở trách: “Ngươi gieo họa cho chúng ta làm gì? Ta đã làm gì đến nỗi ngươi đối xử với ta như thế? Ngươi làm cho ta và nước ta đều mắc tội. Ngươi thật là tệ bạc!
10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, —What hadst thou seen, that thou shouldst have done this thing?
Ngươi có dụng ý gì mà lừa gạt ta như thế?”
11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely there is no fear of God, in this place, —therefore will they slay me for the sake of my wife.
Áp-ra-ham đáp: “Tôi tưởng nơi này không có người kính sợ Chúa, e có người sẽ giết tôi để cướp vợ tôi.
12 Moreover also, in truth, my sister daughter of my father, she is, only not daughter of my mother, —so she became my wife.
Thật tình, nàng cũng là em tôi, em một cha khác mẹ, nhưng tôi cưới nàng làm vợ.
13 And so it came to pass when the Gods caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her, This, is thy lovingkindness, wherewith thou shalt deal with me, —Into whatsoever place we enter, say of me My brother, is he.
Khi Đức Chúa Trời sai tôi đi đây đó xa quê hương, tôi bảo nàng: ‘Dù đi đâu, xin bà cũng hãy xưng bà là em gái tôi.’”
14 Then took Abimelech sheep and oxen and men—servants and maid-servants, and gave to Abraham, —and restored to him Sarah his wife.
Vua A-bi-mê-léc ban tặng cho Áp-ra-ham nhiều chiên, bò, tôi trai, tớ gái; và giao trả Sa-ra.
15 And Abimelech, said, Lo! my land is before thee, —wherever it may seem good in thine eyes, dwell.
Vua bảo: “Cứ đi khắp nước ta, xem địa điểm nào ngươi thích, rồi định cư ở đó.”
16 And to Sarah, he said, Lo! I have given a thousand of silver unto thy brother: Lo! that is for thee as a covering of eyes, to all who are with thee, —And so in every way, hath right been done.
Vua quay lại nói với Sa-ra: “Đây, ta trả cho anh ngươi 1.000 lạng bạc để bồi thường danh dự. Thế là danh dự ngươi thật hoàn toàn, không chút hề hấn.”
17 And Abraham prayed unto God, —and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid-servants, so that they bare children,
Áp-ra-ham cầu xin Đức Chúa Trời chữa lành cho vua, hoàng hậu, và toàn nữ tì trong hoàng tộc để họ có thể sinh sản.
18 For Yahweh, had restrained from bearing, every female of the house of Abimelech, —because of Sarah, wife of Abraham.
Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu đã phạt A-bi-mê-léc, không cho hoàng hậu và các cung nữ có con, sau khi A-bi-mê-léc bắt vợ của Áp-ra-ham.
