Genesis 15
1 After these things, came the word of Yahweh unto Abram, in a vision saying, —Do not fear Abram, I am a shield to thee, thine exceeding great reward.
১ঐ ঘটনার পরে দর্শনে সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য অব্রামের কাছে উপস্থিত হল, তিনি বললেন, “অব্রাম, ভয় কর না, আমিই তোমার ঢাল ও তোমার মহাপুরস্কার।”
2 And Abram said My Lord Yahweh, what canst thou give me, when, I, am going on childless, —and the heir of my house, is Eliezer, of Damascus,
২অব্রাম বললেন, “হে প্রভু সদাপ্রভু, তুমি আমাকে কি দেবে? আমি তো নিঃসন্তান হয়ে মারা যাচ্ছি এবং এই দম্মেশকীয় ইলীয়েষর আমার বাড়ির উত্তরাধিকারী।”
3 And Abram said—Lo, to me, hast thou not given seed, —And lo! a son of my household, is mine heir!
৩আর অব্রাম বললেন, “দেখ, তুমি আমাকে সন্তান দিলে না এবং আমার গৃহের এক জন আমার উত্তরাধিকারী হবে।
4 And lo! the word of Yahweh [came] unto him, saying, This one, shall not be thine heir: But one who cometh forth of thy body—he shall be thine heir.
৪তখন দেখ, তাঁর কাছে সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য উপস্থিত হল, যেমন ঐ ব্যক্তি তোমার উত্তরাধিকারী হবে না, কিন্তু যে তোমার ঔরসে জন্মাবে, সেই তোমার উত্তরাধিকারী হবে।”
5 And he brought him forth abroad and said—Look steadfastly. I pray thee towards the heavens, and number the stars, if thou be able to number, them, And he said to him, Thus, shall be thy seed.
৫পরে তিনি তাঁকে বাইরে এনে বললেন, “তুমি আকাশের দিকে দেখে যদি তারা গুণতে পার, তবে গুনে বল; তিনি তাঁকে আরও বললেন এইরকম তোমার বংশ হবে।”
6 And he had faith in Yahweh, —so he reckoned it to him as righteousness.
৬তখন তিনি সদাপ্রভুতে বিশ্বাস করলেন, আর সদাপ্রভু তাঁর পক্ষে তা ধার্ম্মিকতা বলে গণনা করলেন।
7 And he said unto him, —I, am Yahweh, who brought thee forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
৭আর তাঁকে বললেন, “যিনি তোমার অধিকারের জন্য এই দেশ দেবেন বলে কলদীয় দেশের ঊর থেকে তোমাকে বের করে এনেছেন, সেই সদাপ্রভু আমি।”
8 And he said, My Lord Yahweh, whereby, can I know that I shall inherit it?
৮তখন তিনি বললেন, “হে প্রভু সদাপ্রভু, আমি যে এর অধিকারী হব, তা কিভাবে জানব?”
9 And he said unto him, Take for me a heifer three years old, and a she-goat three years old, and a ram three years old, and a turtle-dove and a young pigeon.
৯তিনি তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি তিন বছরের এক গরু, তিন বছরের এক ছাগল, তিন বছরের একটি ভেড়া এবং এক ঘুঘু ও এক পায়রার বাচ্চা আমার কাছে আন।”
10 So he took for him all these, and divided them, in the midst, and placed each piece over against its fellow, but the birds, divided he not.
১০পরে তিনি ঐ সব তাঁর কাছে এনে দুটো করে টুকরো করলেন এবং এক এক টুকরোর আগে অন্য অন্য টুকরো রাখলেন, কিন্তু পাখিদেরকে দুই টুকরো করলেন না।
11 Then came down the birds of prey upon the carcass, and Abram drove them away.
১১পরে হিংস্র পাখিরা সেই মৃত পশুদের ওপরে পড়লে অব্রাম তাদেরকে তাড়িয়ে দিলেন।
12 And it came to pass when, the sun, was about to go in, and, a deep sleep, had fallen upon Abram, lo! a terror a great darkness, was falling upon him.
১২পরে সূর্য্য অস্ত যাবার দিনের অব্রাম গভীরভাবে ঘুমিয়ে পড়লেন; আর দেখ, তিনি ভয়ে ও ভয়ঙ্কার অন্ধকারে মগ্ন হলেন।
13 And he said to Abram—Thou must surely know, that, sojourners, will thy seed become in a land not theirs, and shall serve them and they will humble them, four hundred years;
১৩তখন তিনি অব্রামকে বললেন, নিশ্চয় জেনো, তোমার বংশধরেরা পরদেশে প্রবাসী থাকবে এবং বিদেশী লোকদের দাসত্ব করবে ও লোকে তাদেরকে চারশো বছর পর্যন্ত দুঃখ দেবে;
14 moreover also, the nation whom they will serve, I, am going to judge, and after that, shall they come forth with great substance.
১৪আবার তারা যে জাতির দাস হবে, আমিই তাঁর বিচার করব; তারপরে তাঁরা যথেষ্ট সম্পত্তি নিয়ে বের হবে।
15 But, thou, shalt go in unto thy fathers in peace, thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
১৫আর তুমি শান্তিতে নিজের পূর্বপুরুষদের কাছে যাবে ও ভালোভাবে বৃদ্ধ অবস্থায় কবর প্রাপ্ত হবে।
16 And, in the fourth generation, shall they return hither, —for not complete, is the iniquity of the Amorites, as yet,
১৬আর [তোমার বংশের] চতুর্থ পুরুষ এই দেশে ফিরে আসবে; কারণ ইমোরীয়দের অপরাধ এখনও সম্পূর্ণ হয়নি।
17 So it came to pass when, the sun, had gone in, and, a thick darkness, had come on, that lo there was a smoking hearth and torch of fire, which passed through between these pieces.
১৭পরে সূর্য্য অস্ত হলে ও অন্ধকার হলে দেখ, ধোঁয়াযুক্ত উনুন ও জলন্ত বাতি ঐ দুটি টুকরোর মধ্য দিয়ে চলে গেল।
18 In that day, did Yahweh solemnise with Abram a covenant, saying, —To thy seed, have I given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river—the river Euphrates:
১৮সেই দিন সদাপ্রভু অব্রামের সঙ্গে নিয়ম স্থির করে বললেন, “আমি মিশরের নদী থেকে মহানদী, ফরাৎ নদী পর্যন্ত এই দেশ তোমার বংশকে দিলাম;
19 the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite;
১৯কেনিয়, কনিষীয়, কদমোনীয়,
20 and the Hittite and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim;
২০হিত্তীয়, পরিষীয়, রফারীয়,
21 and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.
২১ইমোরীয়, কনানীয়, গির্গাশীয় ও যিবুষীয় লোকদের দেশ দিলাম।”
