< Genesis 14 >

1 And it came to pass, in the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar, Arioch, king of Ellasar, —Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goim,
And it came to pass in the reign of Amarphal king of Sennaar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, that Chodollogomor king of Elam, and Thargal king of nations,
2 that they made war, with Bera, king of Sodom, and with Birsha, king of Gomorrah, —Shinab, king of Admah, and Shemeber, king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela—the same, is Zoar.
made war with Balla king of Sodom, and with Barsa king of Gomorrha, and with Sennaar, king of Adama, and with Symobor king of Seboim and the king of Balac, this is Segor.
3 All these, joined together in the valley of the open fields, the same, is the Salt Sea.
All these met with one consent at the salt valley; this is [now] the sea of salt.
4 Twelve years, had they served Chedorlaomer, —but in the thirteenth year had they rebelled;
Twelve years they served Chodollogomor, and the thirteenth year they revolted.
5 and in the fourteenth year, had Chedorlaomer come in and the kings who were with him, so they smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, —and the Emim, in Shaveh-kiriathaim;
And in the fourteenth year came Chodollogomor, and the kings with him, and cut to pieces the giants in Astaroth, and Carnain, and strong nations with them, and the Ommaeans in the city Save.
6 and the Horites in their Mount Seir, —as far as El-paran, which is by the desert.
And the Chorrhaeans in the mountains of Seir, to the turpentine tree of Pharan, which is in the desert.
7 So they returned and came in unto En-mishpat, the same, is Kadish, and smote all the field of the Amalekites, —and the Amorites also that dwelt in Hazazon-tamar,
And having turned back they came to the well of judgement; this is Cades, and they cut in pieces all the princes of Amalec, and the Amorites dwelling in Asasonthamar.
8 Thus then went forth the King of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela the same, is Zoar—and set themselves in array against them for battle, in the valley of the open fields:
And the king of Sodom went out, and the king of Gomorrha, and king of Adama, and king of Seboim, and king of Balac, this is Segor, and they set themselves in array against them for war in the salt valley,
9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, —four kings against five.
against Chodollogomor king of Elam, and Thargal king of nations, and Amarphal king of Sennaar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, the four kings against the five.
10 Now, the valley of the open fields, had many pits of bitumen, so the king of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there, —while, they who remained, towards a mountain, fled.
Now the salt valley [consists of] slime-pits. And the king of Sodom fled and the king of Gomorrha, and they fell in there: and they that were left fled to the mountain country.
11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food and went their way.
And they took all the cavalry of Sodom and Gomorrha, and all their provisions, and departed.
12 And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son with his goods, and went their way, —he, being a dweller in Sodom.
And they took also Lot the son of Abram's brother, and his baggage, and departed, for he lived in Sodom.
13 Then came in a fugitive, and told Abram the Hebrew, —he, having his dwelling among the oaks of Mamre the Amorite brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, they, also having a covenant with Abram.
And one of them that had been rescued came and told Abram the Hebrew; and he lived by the oak of Mamre the Amorite the brother of Eschol, and the brother of Aunan, who were confederates with Abram.
14 So Abram, hearing that his brother had been taken captive, drew forth his trained men born in his house three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.
And Abram having heard that Lot his nephew had been taken captive, numbered his own home-born [servants] three hundred and eighteen, and pursued after them to Dan.
15 And he divided himself against them by night, he, and his servants, and smote them, —and pursued them as far as Hobah, which was on the left of Damascus.
And he came upon them by night, he and his servants, and he struck them and pursued them as far as Choba, which is on the left of Damascus.
16 So he brought back all the goods, —yea Lot also his brother with his goods, did he bring back, and the women also, and the people.
And he recovered all the cavalry of Sodom, and he recovered Lot his nephew, and all his possessions, and the women and the people.
17 Then came forth the king of Sodom to meet him, after his return from the smiting of Chedorlaomer, and the kings who were with him, —into the vale of Shaveh the same, was the vale of the king.
And the king of Sodom went out to meet him, after he returned from the slaughter of Chodollogomor, and the kings with him, to the valley of Saby; this was the plain of the kings.
18 Now Melchizedek king of Salem, had brought forth bread and wine, —he, being priest of GOD Most High.
And Melchisedec king of Salem brought forth loaves and wine, and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 So he blessed him and said, —Blessed be Abram of GOD Most High, possessor of [the] heavens and earth;
And he blessed Abram, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, who made heaven and earth,
20 And blessed be GOD Most High, who hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. So he gave unto him a tenth of all.
and blessed be the most high God who delivered your enemies into your power. And Abram gave him the tithe of all.
21 Then said the king of Sodom unto Abram, —Give unto me the persons, but the goods, take thou for thyself.
And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the men, and take the horses to yourself.
22 And Abram said unto the king of Sodom, —I have lifted up my hand unto Yahweh GOD Most High, possessor of [the] heavens and earth:
And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I will stretch out my hand to the Lord the most high God, who made the heaven and the earth,
23 That not from a thread even unto a sandal-thong, —will I take, anything, that is thine, —Lest thou shouldst say, I, enriched Abram!
[that] I will not take from all your goods from a string to a shoe-latchet, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich.
24 Save only what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, they may take their share.
Except what things the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men that went with me, Eschol, Aunan, Mambre, these shall take a portion.
