Genesis 13
1 So Abram came up out of Egypt he and his wife and all that he had and Lot with him, towards the South.
So zog denn Abram mit seiner Frau und mit all seinem Hab und Gut aus Ägypten wieder hinauf nach dem Südgau; auch Lot war bei ihm.
2 Now, Abram, was very rich, —in cattle, in silver and in gold.
Abram war aber sehr reich an Herden, an Silber und Gold;
3 And he went his way, by his removals, from the South even as far as to Bethel, —as far as the place where his tent was at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai:
und er zog weiter von einem Lagerplatz zum andern aus dem Südgau bis nach Bethel, bis an die Stätte, wo sein Zelt anfangs gestanden hatte, zwischen Bethel und Ai,
4 unto the place of the altar, which he made there at first, —and Abram called there, on the name of Yahweh.
zu der Stätte, wo der Altar stand, den er dort zuvor gebaut hatte; und Abram rief dort den Namen des HERRN an.
5 Now, Lot also, who was going with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.
Aber auch Lot, der mit Abram zog, besaß Kleinvieh, Rinder und Zelte.
6 And the land suffered them not to dwell together, —because their substance had become, great, so that they could not dwell together.
So reichte denn das Land nicht aus, daß beide hätten beisammen bleiben können; denn ihr Hab und Gut war groß geworden; daher konnten sie nicht beieinander bleiben.
7 And there arose a strife betwixt the herdmen of Abram, and the herdmen of Lot. Now the Canaanite and the Perizzite, were then dwelling in the land.
So entstand denn Streit zwischen den Hirten von Abrams Herden und den Hirten von Lots Vieh; es waren nämlich die Kanaanäer und Pherissiter damals im Lande ansässig.
8 So then Abram said unto Lot Pray let not cause of strife arise betwixt me and thee, or betwixt my herdmen and thy herdmen; for brethren, are we.
Da sagte Abram zu Lot: »Laß doch keine Streitigkeiten zwischen mir und dir und zwischen meinen und deinen Hirten herrschen: wir sind ja Brüder.
9 Is not, all the land, before thee? I pray thee, separate thyself from me, —if to the left hand, then I will go to the right, if to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
Steht dir nicht das ganze Land zur freien Verfügung? Trenne dich lieber von mir! Willst du nach der linken Seite, so gehe ich nach rechts, und willst du nach der rechten Seite, so gehe ich nach links.«
10 So Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the circuit of the Jordan, that the whole of it, was well-watered, —before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the Garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as thou enterest into Zoar.
Da hob Lot seine Augen auf und sah, daß die ganze Gegend am Jordan überall wohlbewässertes Land war – bevor nämlich der HERR Sodom und Gomorrha zerstört hatte –, wie der Garten Gottes, wie das Land Ägypten, bis nach Zoar hin.
11 And Lot chose for himself all the circuit of the Jordan, so Lot brake up eastwards, —and they separated themselves, each man from his brother:
Da wählte Lot für sich die ganze Gegend am Jordan und zog ostwärts. So trennten sich beide voneinander:
12 Abram, fixed his dwelling in the land of Canaan, —but, Lot, fixed his dwelling among the cities, of the circuit, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.
Abram blieb im Lande Kanaan wohnen, während Lot sich in den Ortschaften der Jordanaue niederließ und mit seinen Zelten bis nach Sodom zog.
13 Now, the men of Sodom were base and sinful, —against Yahweh, exceedingly.
Die Einwohner von Sodom aber waren böse Leute und arge Sünder vor dem HERRN.
14 And, Yahweh, said unto Abram after that Lot had separated himself from him, Lift up, I pray thee thine eyes and look, from the place where thou art, —northward and southward and eastward and westward;
Der HERR aber sagte zu Abram, nachdem Lot sich von ihm getrennt hatte: »Hebe deine Augen auf und schaue von der Stelle, auf der du stehst, nach Norden und Süden, nach Osten und Westen:
15 for all the land which thou art beholding—to thee, will I give it, and to thy seed unto times age-abiding;
denn das ganze Land, das du siehst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen auf ewige Zeiten geben
16 and I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, —so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, thy seed also, may be numbered.
und will deine Nachkommenschaft so zahlreich werden lassen wie den Staub der Erde, so daß, wenn jemand den Staub der Erde zu zählen vermöchte, auch deine Nachkommenschaft zählbar sein sollte.
17 Rise! go up and down in the land, to the length thereof and to the breadth thereof, for to thee, will I give it.
Wohlan, durchziehe das Land nach seiner Länge und Breite, denn dir will ich es geben!«
18 So Abram moved his tent and came in and dwelt among the oaks of Mamre, which were in Hebron, —and built there an altar to Yahweh.
Da zog Abram mit seinen Zelten weiter und nahm (endlich) seinen Wohnsitz unter den Terebinthen Mamres, die bei Hebron stehen; dort baute er dem HERRN einen Altar.
