Genesis 11
1 So it came to pass that, all the earth, was of one manner of speech, —and of one stock of words.
১সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে এক ভাষা ও একই কথা ছিল।
2 And it came to pass as they brake away onwards, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.
২পরে লোকেরা পূর্বদিকে ঘুরতে ঘুরতে শিনিয়র দেশে এক সমভূমি পেয়ে সে জায়গায় বাস করল;
3 Then said they, each man to his friend, Come on! let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly, —So the bricks, served them for stone, and bitumen, served them for mortar,
৩আর একে অপরকে বলল, “এস, আমরা ইট তৈরী করে আগুনে পোড়াই,” তাতে তাদের পাথরের পরিবর্তে ইট ও চূনের পরিবর্তে আলকাতরা ছিল।
4 And they said Come on! let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower with its head in the heavens, so let us make for ourselves a name, —lest we be scattered abroad over the face of all the earth.
৪পরে তারা বলল, “এস, আমরা নিজেদের জন্য এক শহর ও আকাশকে নাগাল পেতে পারে এমন এক উঁচু বাড়ি (মিনার) তৈরী করে নিজেদের নাম বিখ্যাত করি, যদি সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে পড়ি।”
5 And Yahweh came down, to behold the city, and the tower, —which the sons of men had built.
৫পরে মানুষেরা যে শহর ও উঁচু বাড়ি (মিনার) তৈরী করছিল, তা দেখতে সদাপ্রভু নেমে এলেন।
6 Then said Yahweh: Lo! one people and one manner of speech, have they all, this, then is what they have begun to do, —now, therefore, nothing will be withholden from them which they may plan to do.
৬আর সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “দেখ, তারা সবাই এক জাতি ও এক ভাষাবাদী; এখন এই কাজে যুক্ত হল; এর পরে যা কিছু করতে ইচ্ছা করবে, তা থেকে তারা থেমে যাবে না।
7 Come on! let us go down, and there confuse their speech, —that they may not understand, each man the speech of his friend.
৭এস, আমরা নিচে গিয়ে, সেই জায়গায় তাদের ভাষার ভেদ জন্মাই, যেন তারা এক জন অন্যের ভাষা বুঝতে না পারে।”
8 So Yahweh scattered them from thence over the face of all the earth, —and so they left off building the city.
৮আর সদাপ্রভু সেখান থেকে সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে তাদেরকে ছিন্নভিন্ন করলেন এবং তারা শহর তৈরী করা থেকে থেমে গেল।
9 For this cause, was the name thereof called Babel ["Confusion"]; because there, did Yahweh confuse the speech of all the earth, —and, from thence, did Yahweh scatter them abroad, over the face of all the earth.
৯এই জন্য সেই শহরের নাম বাবিল [ভেদ] হল; কারণ সেই জায়গায় সদাপ্রভু সমস্ত পৃথিবীর ভাষার ভেদ জন্মিয়েছিলেন এবং সেখান থেকে সদাপ্রভু তাদেরকে সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে ছিন্নভিন্ন করেছিলেন।
10 These, are the genealogies of Shem, Shem was a hundred years old when he begat Arpachshad, two years after the flood
১০শেমের বংশ-বৃত্তান্ত এই। শেম একশো বছর বয়সে, বন্যার দুই বছর পরে, অর্ফকষদের জন্ম দিলেন।
11 and Shem lived after he begat Arpachshad, five hundred years, —and begat sons and daughters.
১১অর্ফকষদের জন্ম দিলে পর শেম পাঁচশো বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
12 And, Arpachshad, lived thirty-five years, —and begat Shelah;
১২অর্ফকষদ পঁয়ত্রিশ বছর বয়সে শেলহের জন্ম দিলেন।
13 and Arpachshad lived after he begat Shelah, four hundred and three years, —and begat sons and daughters.
১৩শেলহের জন্ম দিলে পর অর্ফকষদ চারশো তিন বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
14 And, Shelah, lived thirty years, —and begat Eber;
১৪শেলহ ত্রিশ বছর বয়সে এবারের জন্ম দিলেন।
15 and Shelah lived, after he begat Eber, four hundred and three years, —and begat sons and daughters.
১৫এবারের জন্ম দিলে পর শেলহ চারশো তিন বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
16 And Eber lived thirty-four years, —and begat Peleg;
১৬এবর চৌত্রিশ বছর বয়সে পেলগের জন্ম দিলেন।
17 and Eber lived after he begat Peleg, four hundred and thirty years, —and begat sons and daughters.
১৭পেলগের জন্ম দিলে পর এবর চারশো ত্রিশ বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
১৮পেলগ ত্রিশ বছর বয়সে রিয়ূর জন্ম দিলেন।
19 and Peleg lived after he begat Reu, two hundred and nine years, —and begat sons and daughters.
১৯রিয়ূর জন্ম দিলে পর পেলগ দুইশো নয় বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
20 And Reu lived thirty-two years—and begat Serug;
২০রিয়ূ বত্রিশ বছর বয়সে সরূগের জন্ম দিলেন।
21 and Reu lived after he begat Serug, two hundred and seven years, —and begat sons and daughters.
২১সরূগের জন্ম দিলে পর রিয়ূ দুশো সাত বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
22 And Serug lived thirty years, —and begat Nahor;
২২সরূগ ত্রিশ বছর বয়সে নাহোরের জন্ম দিলেন।
23 and Serug lived after he begat Nahor, two hundred years, —and begat sons and daughters.
২৩নাহোরের জন্ম দিলে পর সরূগ দুশো বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
24 And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, —and begat Terah;
২৪নাহোর উনত্রিশ বছর বয়সে তেরহের জন্ম দিলেন।
25 and Nahor lived, after he begat Terah, a hundred and nineteen years, —and begat sons and daughters.
২৫তেরহের জন্ম দিলে পর নাহোর একশো উনিশ বছর জীবিত থেকে আরও ছেলেমেয়ের জন্ম দিলেন।
26 And Terah lived seventy years, —and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
২৬তেরহ সত্তর বছর বয়সে অব্রাম, নাহোর ও হারণের জন্ম দিলেন।
27 These, then are the generations of Terah, Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran, —and, Haran, begat Lot;
২৭তেরহের বংশ বৃত্তান্ত এই। তেরহ অব্রাম, নাহোর ও হারণের জন্ম দিলেন।
28 and Haran died, in the presence of Terah his father, —in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.
২৮আর হারণ লোটের জন্ম দিলেন। কিন্তু হারণ নিজের বাবা তেরহের সামনে নিজের জন্মস্থান কলদীয় দেশের ঊরে প্রাণত্যাগ করলেন।
29 And Abram and Nahor took to themselves wives; the name of Abram’s wife, was Sarai; and, the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, daughter of Haran father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.
২৯অব্রাম ও নাহর উভয়েই বিয়ে করলেন; অব্রাহামের স্ত্রীর নাম সারী ও নাহোরের স্ত্রীর নাম মিলকা। এই স্ত্রী হারণের মেয়ে; হারণ মিলকার ও যিস্কার বাবা।
30 And, Sarai, remained barren, —she had no child,
৩০সারী বন্ধ্যা ছিলেন, তাঁর সন্তান হল না।
31 And Terah took Abram his son and Lot son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, —and came forth with them out of Ur of the Chaldees, that they might go their way towards the land of Canaan, and they came in as far as Haran and dwelt there.
৩১আর তেরহ নিজের ছেলে অব্রামকে ও হারণের ছেলে নিজের নাতি লোটকে এবং অব্রাহামের স্ত্রী সারী নাম্নী ছেলের স্ত্রীকে সঙ্গে নিলেন; তাঁরা একসঙ্গে কনান দেশে যাবার জন্য কলদীয় দেশের ঊর থেকে যাত্রা করলেন; আর হারণ নগর পর্যন্ত গিয়ে সেখানে বাস করলেন।
32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, —and Terah died in Haran.
৩২পরে তেরহের দুশো পাঁচ বছর বয়স হলে হারণে তাঁর মৃত্যু হল।
