< Genesis 10 >

1 Now, these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and there were born to them sons after the flood.
The following are the genealogies of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They had sons born to them after the flood.
2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer and Magog, and Madai, and Javan and Tubal, —and Meshech, and Tiras.
The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3 And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz and Riphath, and Togarmah.
The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 And the sons of Javan: Elishah, and Tarshish. Kittim, and Rodanim, —
The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5 From these, were dispersed [the inhabitants] of the coastlands of the nations, in their lands, each man by his tongue, by their families in their nations.
The descendants of these ancestors spread throughout the coastal areas, each group having their own language, with their families developing into different nations.
6 And, the sons of Ham: Cush and Mizraim and Phut and Canaan.
The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
7 And, the sons of Cush: Seba and Havilah, and Sabtah and Raamah, and Sabtechah, —And the sons of Raamah, Sheba and Dedan.
The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
8 And, Cush begat Nimrod.—he, became a hero in the earth;
Cush was also the father of Nimrod, who set himself up as the first tyrant on earth.
9 he, became a hero of hunting before Yahweh, for this cause, it is said. Like Nimrod, a hero of hunting before Yahweh.
He was a powerful fighter who defied the Lord; which is why there's the expression, “Like Nimrod, a powerful fighter who defied the Lord.”
10 So the beginning of his kingdom came to be Babel, and Erech, and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
His kingdom began in the cities of Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, all located in the land of Shinar.
11 From that land, went forth Asshur, —and he built Nineveh, and Rehoboth-ir, and Calah:
From there he moved into Assyria and built the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
12 and Resen, between Niveveh and Calah, —the same is the great city.
and Resen, which lies between Nineveh and the great city of Calah.
13 And, Mizraim, begat Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim, and Naphtuchim;
Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites,
14 and Pathrusim and Casluhim whence came forth Philistim and Caphtorim.
the Pathrusites, the Casluhites, and the Caphtorites (ancestors of the Philistines).
15 And Canaan begat Zidon his firstborn, and Heth:
Canaan was the father of Sidon, his firstborn, and of the Hittites,
16 and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite;
the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17 and the Hivite and the Arkite, and the Sinite:
the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18 and the Arvadite and the Zemarite and the Hamathite, —and after-wards, were spread abroad the families of the Canaanite.

19 And it came to pass that the boundary of the Canaanite was from Zidon, as thou enterest in towards Gerar unto Gaza, —as thou enterest in towards Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboim, as far as Lasha.
and the territory of the Canaanites stretched from Sidon towards Gerar and all the way to Gaza, then towards Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, all the way to Lasha.
20 These, are the sons of Ham, by their families by their tongues, in their lands in their nations.
These were the sons of Ham according to their tribes, languages, lands, and nation.
21 Now, to Shem, father of all the sons of Eber, elder brother of Japheth, to him also, were children born.
Shem, whose older brother was Japheth, also had sons. Shem was the forefather of all the sons of Eber.
22 The sons of Shem, Elam and Asshur, —and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram.
The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
23 And, the sons of Aram: Uz and Hul, and Gether and Mash.
The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24 Now Arpachshad, begat Shelah, and Shelah begat Eber.
Arphaxad was the father of Shelah. Shelah was the father of Eber.
25 And to Eber, were born two sons, —the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days, was the earth divided, and the name of his brother was Joktan.
Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; the name of his brother was Joktan.
26 Now, Joktan, begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah;
Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 and Hadoram and Uzal, and Diklah:
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 and Obal and Abimael, and Sheba:
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29 and Ophir and Havilah, and Jobab—all these were sons of Joktan.
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. These were all sons of Joktan.
30 And it came to pass that their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou enterest in towards Sephar, the mountain of the east.
They lived in the land lying between Mesha to Sephar, in the hill country to the east.
31 These are the sons of Shem, by their families by their tongues, in their lands by their nations.
These were the sons of Shem, according to their tribes, languages, lands, and nations.
32 These, are the families of the sons of Noah, by their generations in their nations, and from these, were dispersed the nations in the earth after the flood.
These were all the tribes descended from Noah's sons, according to their genealogies and national groups. From these ancestors the different nations of the earth spread around the world after the flood.
