Ezra 5
1 Then were moved to prophesy, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah son of Iddo, the prophets, unto the Jews who were in Judaea and in Jerusalem, —in the name of the God of Israel, unto them.
Vả, tiên tri A-ghê và tiên tri Xa-cha-ri, con của Y-đô, nhân danh Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên nói tiên tri cho các người Giu-đa tại xứ Giu-đa và ở Giê-ru-sa-lem.
2 Then arose—Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, —and, with them, were the prophets of God, strengthening them.
Xô-rô-ba-bên, con trai của Sa-anh-thi-ên, và Giê-sua, con trai của Giô-xa-đác, bèn chổi dậy, khởi cất đền Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, có các tiên tri của Đức Chúa Trời giúp đỡ.
3 At that time, came unto them Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and their associates, —and, thus, spake they unto them, Who hath issued unto you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?
Trong lúc đó, Tát-tê-nai, quan tổng đốc của xứ phía bên nầy sông, Sê-ta-Bô-xê-nai, và các đồng liêu họ, đến tìm dân Giu-đa, mà nói cùng chúng như vầy: Ai ban lịnh cho các ngươi cất cái đền nầy và xây vách thành nầy lên?
4 Then, after this manner, spake we unto them, —What are the names of these men, who, this building, do rear?
Chúng ta bèn nói cùng họ tên những người xây cất cái đền nầy.
5 Nevertheless, the eye of their God, was upon the elders of Judah, and they did not forbid them, until the matter, unto Darius, should come, —and, then, answer be returned by letter, concerning this.
Con mắt Đức Chúa Trời của chúng đoái xem các trưởng lão dân Giu-đa, nên họ không ngăn cấm chúng làm công việc, đành lòng đem việc ấy tâu lại vua Đa-ri-út, đợi đến khi vua giáng chiếu về sự ấy.
6 A copy of the letter which Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and his associates, the Apharsachites, who were Beyond the Rivet, sent unto Darius the king:
Nầy bản sao lục tờ biểu mà Tát-tê-nai, quan tổng đốc của xứ phía bên nầy sông, Sê-ta-Bô-xê-nai, và các đồng liêu người, tức người A-phạt-sác ở bên nầy sông, tấu lên vua Đa-ri-út,
7 a message, sent they unto him, —and, thus, was it written therein, Unto Darius the king, all prosperity!
như lời sau nầy: Chúc vua Đa-ri-út thái bình mọi vẻ!
8 Be it known unto the king, that we journeyed into the province of Judah, unto the house of the Great God, and, the same, is being built with large stones, and, timber, is being laid in the walls, —and, this work, with speed, is being done, and is prospering in their hands.
Chúng tôi muốn vua hay rằng chúng tôi có đi trong tỉnh Giu-đa, đến đền thờ của Đức Chúa Trời rất lớn, thấy người Giu-đa xây cất cái đền thờ ấy bằng đá nguyên khối; sườn nhà đã gác ngang qua vách rồi, và công việc làm cách kỹ lưỡng và tấn tới trong tay họ.
9 Then asked we of these elders, thus, we said to them, —Who hath issued to you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?
Chúng tôi có hỏi các trưởng lão ấy rằng: Ai ban lịnh cho các ngươi cất cái đền nầy và xây vách thành nầy lên?
10 Yea, their names also, asked we of them, to certify thee, —that we might write the name, of the men who are at their head.
Chúng tôi cũng hỏi danh tánh họ, đặng tâu cho vua biết các tên của những người quản suất chúng.
11 And, thus, returned they, answer, to us saying, —We, are servants of the God of the heavens and the earth, and are building the house which was built these many years ago, which, a great king of Israel, built and completed.
Chúng đáp lời như vầy: Chúng tôi vốn là kẻ tôi tớ của Đức Chúa Trời, Chúa tể của trời và đất; chúng tôi đang xây cất lại cái đền thờ, đã lâu năm trước đây có một vua sang trọng của Y-sơ-ra-ên lập lên và làm cho hoàn thành.
12 But, after that our fathers had provoked the God of the heavens to wrath, he delivered them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, —and, this house, he destroyed, and, the people, he exiled to Babylon.
Song các tổ phụ chúng tôi chọc giận Đức Chúa Trời, nên Ngài phó chúng vào tay Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, là người Canh-đê; vua ấy phá hủy đền nầy và bắt dân sự đem qua Ba-by-lôn.
13 Howbeit, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king, issued an edict, this house of God, to build.
Nhưng năm đầu đời Si-ru, vua Ba-by-lôn, trị vì, vua Si-ru truyền lịnh cất lại cái đền của Đức Chúa Trời.
14 Moreover also, the utensils of the house of God, of gold and silver, which, Nebuchadnezzar, had brought forth out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, and had brought into the temple of Babylon, Cyrus the king, brought them forth, out of the temple of Babylon, —and they were delivered to one Sheshbazzar by name, whom he made, pasha;
Vua Si-ru cũng rút ra khỏi đền thờ Ba-by-lôn những chậu vàng và bạc của đền Đức Chúa Trời, mà Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa đã đoạt lấy khỏi đền thờ tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, đem về trong đền thờ Ba-by-lôn; Si-ru giao các vật ấy cho danh Sết-ba-xa, mà người lập làm quan tổng đốc,
15 and said to him—These utensils, take, go carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, —and let, the house of God, be built in its place.
và nói với người rằng: Hãy lấy các khí dụng nầy, đi để trong đền thờ tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, và xây cất lại nhà của Đức Chúa Trời trên chỗ cũ nó.
16 Then, this Sheshbazzar, came, he laid the foundations of the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, —and, since then, even until now, it hath been in building, and is not finished.
Bấy giờ, Sết-ba-xa nầy đến, lập nền đền thờ của Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem; và từ lúc đó đến rày người ta đang xây cất nó, song chưa hoàn thành.
17 Now, therefore, if, unto the king, it seem good, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king which is there, in Babylon, whether it be so, that, from Cyrus the king, issued an edict, to build this house of God, in Jerusalem, —and, the pleasure of the king concerning this, let him send unto us.
Vậy bây giờ, nếu đẹp ý vua, xin hãy tra khảo trong kho vua tại Ba-by-lôn, xem thử thật Si-ru có ra chiếu chỉ xây cất lại cái đền của Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem chăng. Đoạn, cầu vua giáng chiếu dạy chúng tôi ý vua về việc ấy.
