Ezra 5

1 Then were moved to prophesy, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah son of Iddo, the prophets, unto the Jews who were in Judaea and in Jerusalem, —in the name of the God of Israel, unto them.

Alors Aggée le Prophète, et Zacharie, fils de Hiddo le Prophète, prophétisaient aux Juifs qui étaient en Juda et à Jérusalem, au Nom du Dieu d'Israël, [qui les avait envoyés] vers eux.

2 Then arose—Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, —and, with them, were the prophets of God, strengthening them.

Et Zorobabel fils de Salathiel, et Jésuah fils de Jotsadak, se levèrent et commencèrent à rebâtir la maison de Dieu, qui habite à Jérusalem; et ils avaient avec eux les Prophètes de Dieu, qui les aidaient.

3 At that time, came unto them Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and their associates, —and, thus, spake they unto them, Who hath issued unto you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?

En ce temps-là Tattenaï, Gouverneur de deçà le fleuve, et Sétharboznaï, et leurs compagnons vinrent à eux et leur parlèrent ainsi: Qui vous a donné ordre de rebâtir cette maison, et de fonder ces murailles?

4 Then, after this manner, spake we unto them, —What are the names of these men, who, this building, do rear?

Et ils leur parlèrent aussi en cette manière: Quels sont les noms des hommes qui bâtissent cet édifice?

5 Nevertheless, the eye of their God, was upon the elders of Judah, and they did not forbid them, until the matter, unto Darius, should come, —and, then, answer be returned by letter, concerning this.

Mais parce que sur les Anciens des Juifs était l'œil de leur Dieu, on ne les fit point cesser, jusqu'à ce que l'affaire parvint à Darius, et qu'alors ils rapportassent des Lettres sur cela.

6 A copy of the letter which Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and his associates, the Apharsachites, who were Beyond the Rivet, sent unto Darius the king:

La teneur des Lettres que Tattenaï Gouverneur de deçà le fleuve, et Sétharboznaï, et ses compagnons Apharsékiens, qui étaient de deçà le fleuve, envoyèrent au Roi Darius.

7 a message, sent they unto him, —and, thus, was it written therein, Unto Darius the king, all prosperity!

Ils lui envoyèrent une relation du fait, et il y avait ainsi écrit: Toute paix soit au Roi Darius.

8 Be it known unto the king, that we journeyed into the province of Judah, unto the house of the Great God, and, the same, is being built with large stones, and, timber, is being laid in the walls, —and, this work, with speed, is being done, and is prospering in their hands.

Que le Roi soit averti que nous sommes allés en la province de Judée, vers la maison du grand Dieu, laquelle on bâtit de grosses pierres, et même la charpenterie est posée aux parois, et cet édifice se bâtit en diligence, et s'avance entre leurs mains.

9 Then asked we of these elders, thus, we said to them, —Who hath issued to you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?

Et nous avons interrogé les Anciens qui étaient là, et nous leur avons parlé ainsi: Qui vous a donné ordre de rebâtir cette maison, et de fonder ces murailles?

10 Yea, their names also, asked we of them, to certify thee, —that we might write the name, of the men who are at their head.

Et nous leur avons aussi demandé leurs noms, pour les faire savoir au Roi, afin que nous écrivissions les noms des principaux d'entr'eux.

11 And, thus, returned they, answer, to us saying, —We, are servants of the God of the heavens and the earth, and are building the house which was built these many years ago, which, a great king of Israel, built and completed.

Et ils nous ont répondu de cette manière, disant: Nous sommes les serviteurs du Dieu des cieux et de la terre, et nous rebâtissons la maison qui avait été bâtie ci-devant il y a longtemps, laquelle un grand Roi d'Israël avait bâtie et fondée.

12 But, after that our fathers had provoked the God of the heavens to wrath, he delivered them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, —and, this house, he destroyed, and, the people, he exiled to Babylon.

Mais après que nos pères eurent provoqué à la colère le Dieu des cieux, il les livra entre les mains de Nébucadnetsar Roi de Babylone, Caldéen, qui détruisit cette maison, et qui transporta le peuple à Babylone.

13 Howbeit, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king, issued an edict, this house of God, to build.

Mais en la première année de Cyrus, Roi de Babylone, le Roi Cyrus commanda qu'on rebâtît cette maison de Dieu.

14 Moreover also, the utensils of the house of God, of gold and silver, which, Nebuchadnezzar, had brought forth out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, and had brought into the temple of Babylon, Cyrus the king, brought them forth, out of the temple of Babylon, —and they were delivered to one Sheshbazzar by name, whom he made, pasha;

Et même le Roi Cyrus tira hors du Temple de Babylone les vaisseaux d'or et d'argent de la maison de Dieu, que Nébucadnetsar avait emportés du Temple qui était à Jérusalem, et qu'il avait apportés au Temple de Babylone, et ils furent délivrés à un nommé Sesbatsar, lequel il avait établi Gouverneur.

15 and said to him—These utensils, take, go carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, —and let, the house of God, be built in its place.

Et il lui dit: Prends ces ustensiles, et t'en va, et fais-les porter au Temple qui était à Jérusalem; et que la maison de Dieu soit rebâtie en sa place.

16 Then, this Sheshbazzar, came, he laid the foundations of the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, —and, since then, even until now, it hath been in building, and is not finished.

Alors ce Sesbatsar vint, et posa les fondements de la maison de Dieu, qui [habite] à Jérusalem; et depuis ce temps-là jusqu'à présent, on la bâtit, et elle n'est point encore achevée.

17 Now, therefore, if, unto the king, it seem good, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king which is there, in Babylon, whether it be so, that, from Cyrus the king, issued an edict, to build this house of God, in Jerusalem, —and, the pleasure of the king concerning this, let him send unto us.

Maintenant donc, s'il semble bon au Roi, qu'on cherche dans la maison des trésors du Roi laquelle est à Babylone, s'il est vrai qu'il y ait eu un ordre donné par Cyrus de rebâtir cette maison de Dieu à Jérusalem; et que le Roi nous fasse savoir sa volonté sur cela.
